On Wednesday domestic terrorists laid siege to, penetrated and overtook the US capital. People died. Cops all over the place. Anarchy reigned. The last time Washington was assaulted was in 1814. And we did it.
Well, in the midst of this attempted coup of the American government, the stock market gained 400 points. Overnight it tacked on a bunch more. When it opened this morning, more surge.
Now, some people wonder… how? Are the money dudes on Wall Street completely tone deaf to the fact thousands of citizens stormed Congress and tried to overthrow it? How could this not have caused a market crash of Biblical proportions? And what the heck happens next? The guy who caused the mob is still in power, after all.
Here are some facts, and reasons investors watched the mob swarm over the seat of democracy and did not rush to cash. Instead they hit the big Buy button.
First, it’s over. The Trump era. He is a spent, discredited, disgraced, pathetic, divisive, destructive and now completely inconsequential force. Says my buddy Ed Pennock…
Yesterday’s events will have obliterated the brand value of “Trump”. No one will pay for the pleasure of using the name. That well has been poisoned. We read with interest that shareholders are starting to warn managements of making financial contributions to other Insurrectionist Republicans. What management will defy those wishes? Who will want to submit a proposal to hold their next AGM at Mar A Lago? There’s more than enough anger to go round.
After the bloody coup attempt, nobody who matters cares about the 45th president. He has no legacy. He cannot run in 2024. Ivanka, either. The millions who voted for him will dwindle, stray off, be repulsed or spend the next few years yelling at each other and the wall on Parler. Their influence on the economy or anything of consequence: zero.
Second, Trump has done a fine job of destroying a great political party. Republicans have been ripped apart after mindlessly serving a despot and mentally defective thug for the past four years. Shame on them. Now they need to retreat, regroup, refocus and try to restore trust. It will take time, during which Democrats will run free with their agenda.
Third, this week everything has changed. Trump lost the House, the White House and now the Senate. His phone call last weekend to Georgia officials, telling them to rig the vote count in his favour, helped seal the deal. Georgia voters on Tuesday sent two Dems to the Senate – an historic moment – and now the blues are in charge.
Fourth, this means Biden (affirmed last night after the attempted rebellion) can (a) goose vaxing and get the virus more under control – a pre-requisite to re-opening the economy, (b) pass a new stimulus package including healthy relief cheques to citizens and (c) govern in a fashion more predictable, consistent and efficient than that experienced in the last four years. Yes, corporate taxes may go up but no longer will there be policy announcements, out of the blue, in a midnight tweet WRITTEN IN CAPS!!
What has this meant?
Bond yields have spiked with the 10-year Treasury rate coursing through 1%, and expected to hit 1.25%. That is huge. It might bulge much more, on the expectation of romping GDP growth of as much as 6%. Or more. The third and fourth quarters of 2021 could be a rush.
The Dow and the S&P are in record territory as a result. So is Bay Street. Real estate is smoking in both the US and Canada (GTA sales up 65%, Van sales up 54%). Car sales are exploding. Check out the price of a two-by-four or a hunk of G1S plywood. This is raw inflation. The Biden presidency – at least in the first year or two – will be all about spending, stimulus, infrastructure and virus defeat. There may be a large amount of upside to the markets, along with the certainty of swelling consumer prices and rising interest rates a lot sooner than most people expected.
So this is why.
The cancer has been removed. Carved out in a few hours on January the 6th. The body survived it.
So in the midst of this tough winter of disease, lockdowns, quarantines, isolation, cold, conspiracy and now rebellion, recovery looks certain. We have the meds. We have the political will. We’ve had a catharsis. And we’re all so damn sick of drama.
Maybe we can even make a few things great again.

I hope the US takes a firmer position with domestic terrorism than their neighbors to the north have over the last 50 years.
As far as “drama” goes I do believe the Dems own that title FULL TILT lol – the enterstainment down south will just take on a different pitch – say hello to the new boss, same as the old boss
I have made more gains on my portfolio in the past 48 hours, than the previous four years. It feels good to be out from under n the doom cloud for at least a few days.
Unfortunately it is encouraging me to make riskier decisions with my investments.
The US will be now a socialist basktcase for 2 maybe 4 years now. When the stated US debt now 26 trillion reaches 60 to 75 trillion by 2025 not including all unfunded liabilities then we will what people will say.
When the economy is in economic spiral of going down with mass unemployment, high cost of living, high inflation, money worth nothing, massive food and other necessities not getting shipped to most of the population, real mass unrest what we have seen the last 12 months is nothing etc. etc.
Canada is going to be screwed big time too so enjoy your cup of delusion now. I don’t care what you call me but don’t blame me the messenger as reality bites and it is going to be a rude awakening for alot of people. This is why I stopped working 8 years ago and just live off my meager annual CPP, OAS, savings until I leave and be in peace from this world that is so rigged.
And what happened last time around? Sorry its all the same Sh*t. Their all the same, more hungry for power rather then to serve.
Garth you make it sound like its going to be happily ever after?! Far from it.
Now they can get back to diminishing your freedoms, rights and removing guns. No? Just go back 30 years…..
The upheaval started waaaaay before Trump.
So the virus was really just a Chinese plot to remove Trump and put a Chinese puppet in the White House…to further destroy America
As for the 50% of Americans who still follow Trump, u are dreaming as usual
great post Garth. watching renewable etfs has been stunning. strong yuan and a new surge in commodities will/are pushing inflation too. plus, all the covid protocols are nudging prices and preparing consumers for increases. 3% inflation before 2h22. then overnight rate hikes.
also, banks like these rate bumps. zeb and xlf all crushing on the blue wave.
So if interest rates will be rising sooner than many expected, I presume we will see the Canadian housing market losing steam as well.
The end
………. is nigh.
PREPARE
Well… that was quick. Facebook and Instagram have banned Trump indefinitely, Twitter has banned him for 12 hours, the Democrats want to pass resolutions to impeach him, remove him, and ban him from running in 2024. And American Airlines wants to ban Trump supporters from the “Freedom of Flying”.
All that stuff I said yesterday about hoping the U.S. would rise above petty politics and would not move into political retribution? Never mind. It’s here.
Very disappointing.
BOUT RIGHT
“Canada must feel like they live in an apartment above a meth lab.”
We are!
Trump makes a convenient scapegoat – I’ll give you that. He is an idiot and has ruined his family’s crest among the American hegemony but, this isn’t over. In fact, this will be remembered as the most peaceful attempt “The People” made to wrest control of their political machine away from those guys who print money and sell the debt to them.
This is far from over – and now “The People” have a rallying cry. Trump made an excellent scapegoat for public consumption but, again, we are just detracting from the real issues. Wall Street continues to suck Main Street dry. China has been allowed to steal freedumb (so that the Anglo American Establishment can build a plutocracy on top of “The People”) and Biden ushers in all of Bush/Obomba’s war hawks in the smoke of current events.
Distractions, distractions, distractions….
How many BLM rioters died when they were trashing the small business enterprises over there in the Twin Cities again? Not to take away from the disgrace yesterday but, goodness, let the cries of injustice ring out! Poor athletes and entertainers, so sick of all of this from their mansions and private islands…imagine the inhumanity.
Hopelessly divided, hopelessly outnumbered and now sold out by our own leadership. It’s bad here in Canada too. Keep them locked down – that new strain is “dangerous” :)
The western world is burning down. Biden, the Dems, ain’t gonna save nuthin’.
“Hope and Change”
“Yes, we can.”
Yes, the establishment, sure can.
My Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto SF Detached Housing Momentum chart is up:
http://www.chpc.biz/housing-price-momentum.html
Physical single family detached price momentum remained aloft on the Covid 19 rally but cash buyers represented by the TSX Real Estate Index plot have a hedging ability and can react in real time and they continued coiling about the “extreme fear” level of 20% below the flat line.
Single Family Detached Houses and the TSX Real Estate Index have increased in price over the last 10 years (Dec/Dec) by:
121% in Vancouver
21% in Calgary
123% in Toronto
56% in TSX Real Estate Index
If nominal bond yields and CPI continue creeping up, real returns will continue to crumble. That will not support physical real estate values. But will that tame the animal spirits of the FOMO 2.0 crowd?
Thanks for the blog Garth
I am on the train!
I thought that January would be a steam train, wow a bullet train.
Does anyone have similar observations, called my stock broker and was told TFSA deposits are so backlog it may be a week. Very interesting!
Anyone else?
Anyway I bought on Monday as my deposit will be backdated. Glad I did, even with an appointment my broker was overwhelmed. No wonder the market went up.
I think 2021 will still be a rough beginning until the virus is under control. But after that!
Did anyone see any charts on inventory? It’s the lowest ever. So my advice get off the train and get on an airplane
Pent up demand is an understatement.
Totally amazed at yesterday. No wonder governments are afraid of mobs. All because the president said March.
Hope everyone has a great day.
fyi, it’s G1S, as in “good one side” – a bit like the economy.
I knew that! – Garth
“The last time Washington was assaulted was in 1814. And we did it.” Lol
The white house was stormed on May 30th 2020 and Trump fled to a bunker.
A bit dramatic I think. Out of control protests are now the norm.
Don’t care who is in the White House. Never did. The Clown just made it entertaining.
Now just show me the money!!
LoL – and “world leaders” around the globe DENOUNCE the attack on congress – well DUH of course they do, they all want to keep the sheep in their stables and not threaten their power and control over the masses –
lol – it ain’t over til the fat lady sings, Garth. You know that! Two more weeks! Two more weeks!
MAGA protestors should have directed their anger towards small businesses instead of the gov’t. Maybe they’ll get it right in the next couple weeks.
Now that I think you all have had the last word about me. Here’s your chance to realize The Jaguar‘s dream. A poll. This is not a troll nor will you be confronted with anything distasteful aside from a fart joke.
Fill it out. You can pick more than one. It’s possible to IP spoof this and vote multiple times, but i will be running the results through the Ted Cruz voter fraud prevention software suite, so best not try your luck.
I’ll check on it tomorrow and if the results are not in my favour, I’ll leave this site until the robins begin chirping in the trees. Oh, wait, this is Vic, they already are…
3 months. I’ll be gone for 3 months if there are more “go” than “stay” selected as of 5PM PST. equal, I’ll go until Feb. More “stay” than “go”, tough tacos.

Have fun and toodles! The first voter will see that I’ve already chosen three of the four options.
Mr Happy, now lets show you the worthless money used for paper to wallpaper over everything.
The money will be worthless with a 50,000 Dow. It is always worth less than before. Even electronic money will be worth even much less too.
Seeing those senators and congressmen cowering in their benches was one of the best things I’ve ever witnessed, and re-invigorated my belief in the American people who have not lost their spirit since the founding period. The same spirit made this the most successful country in history.
Washington’s creatures were officially WARNED by American patriots.
Just when I thought America was finished…
Garth you’ve outdone yourself in vitriol for a politician who fought against the Deep State infesting America for the last four years who constantly put down the duly elected president.
Yes the actions at Congress yesterday were terrible but it was only the president’s followers who were so upset with the Democrats, many Republicans, and the MSM totally ignoring the gross fraud which took place on Nov. 3 and repeated Tuesday. How is it ever possible for vote counts for a particular candidate to decrease when more more votes are counted which a number of videos taken of TV screens show as happening Tuesday night?
The USA is at a breaking point and I feel for our family who live there.
It’s great to see markets going up but don’t forget they also went up when the current president won despite all indications they would drop.
So you get QAnon out there in the flatlands, I guess? – Garth
Excellent post, good sir. Hopefully this was the death of the MAGA cult. Better days are ahead.
We’re still stuck with Mr. Socks, though.
If you think it’s over you’re dreaming.
It’s been shown that the establishment won’t budge so the only solution is revolution.
Why don’t you use the same screen names as when you come here as an anti-masker and anti-vaxer? Then we could ignore you faster. – Garth

While I hope this is true it seems like fantasy to me. We are talking about 74MM voters that checked the Trump box.
He will stand up a media platform to reach these folks the day after he leaves office. Who cares if anyone books Mar Lago when you have 20-40MM subscribers to your news channel @ 10 bucks a month.
He is going to be a major force in politics until he is in the ground. Count on it.
It’s always amazing USA spends more on military than all other First world countries, combined.
Yet yesterday as on Sept 11 the country appeared helpless and undefended. Not a finger lifted in defense.
Of course Sept 11 brought, against her citizens, the never ending Patriot Act- with its unlimited powers for search and detention. I wonder what this time will bring.

Faron, I’m not going to take the poll, but my vote is you stay. We’re blog family, bro. We might not agree much, but I guarantee we could work together.
Jag: I like you, but don’t agree with you on this. And your personal attack on F yesterday was a little over the top.

Yeah, a real coup attempt…not!
“People died.” Yes, four people. One unarmed protester (a woman), a retired veteran shot in the neck by police, a man who died of a heart attack after apparently tasing himself and two others from unspecified medical emergencies.
Meanwhile we’re lead to believe this “coup attempt” was parallel to 9/11 and Pearl Harbor (Sen. Chuck Schumer)!
You seem disappointed only four lives were lost. Just as you have diminished all the Covid deaths. What a piece of work you are. – Garth
Honestly i’m a little sad. forget fiscal policy or any form of financial accountability. investors will pump up the stock market and driveit up …knowing the govt will bail them out .
i have no doubt the tech market will correct 10- 20 % . i’ve been through 3 of them in the last 7 years and i bought and sold Apple 2x . i still remember the 1 st one very clear. i think it was when tim cook took over . the stock dropped from $127 to about $96 in a week . i kept it when i bought it at $114..
im still sad though. A lot of people will suffer when the US Debt reached $ 56 trillion in 10 years and CAN will be $2 trillion. imagine how much food, insurance etc will cost. a number a people are struggling now…you see the food banks??
When will we see the end of the communist, socialist, marxist cult. Too many thieves in society and that is the real cancer.
If I can add one more comment to my above post:
One other excellent side-effect of this theatre has been to expose that the Republicans are a fraudulent status quo party, not in opposition to the Democrat-State Security-Mass Media tripartite Oligarchy; they are in fact one and the same, the MONOPARTY.
The contrived cultural squabbles about abortions and guns are just cleverly engineered sophistry.
You are so, so right: this blog is pathetic. But I will make sure to come back once in a while to check out what the opposite of reality really is. This perspective you shared is pretty much an inverse mirror image of what is; seems like a perfect epitaph for your work here.
You were once a contrarian, Garth, or perhaps it was simply in so far as real estate was concerned. Godspeed, good sir. You have a year of surprises to look forward to and complain about.
so herostratus goes out and wants notoriety?

15 members + the VP =16 cabinet
how many are needed for amendment 25th to remove ? How many have resigned so far? out of the 15 all that is needed is a majority 8 of them .
If Pence says yes ,he is the acting president immediately. 8 vote him out today. Immediately Trump has no power. Trump’s option is that he has four days to appeal. But within 4 days the majority then voted again and if it is sustained on appeal it continues on for a period of 21days. Within that 21 days ,2/3congress
in both houses must approve .It would take him out of power for 21 days and( his finger off the button and from signing anything he is powerless.)
===========================
a majority of the fortune 500 condemned the event say he should be removed from office:
so how to save face: pence looks good to the base he will say forgiveness looks forward /revenge looks back
as VP Pence not wanting to be the fall guy could go for the 25 amendment have him removed so he can become president and then pardon trump. although, trump would have to resign.
Japans stock market tumbled from its peak, decades ago and has still not climbed back up it has went sideways, and all we can say is all time high markets are going higher, great money management/risk control, good luck with that.

Socialist basket case?
Didn’t Obama hand over power (peacefully I might add) with a booming economy?
What is the fact on that? I’m interested in your take.
crazed and little confused, you mean UBI, guaranteed annual income, social programs, CERB, EI, welfare, WSIB, GIS and many other provincial, territorial social programs, socialism, communism, marxism etc. does not work. It actually makes things much worse.
Why are you confused at all? Canada is going to be screwed more too with Liberals, NDP etc. doing what they want. We will not get there in 10 years. It is more like 3 to 4 years at most. It is done.
@ sail away. It might have been a little over the top, but it will come to pass.

Very bullish Garth! I agree. All we need to do now is get rid of the Ford and Kenney so-called governments and things will really be looking up.
Boring and predictable will be absolutely amazing for my portfolio. I couldn’t wait.
” the Democrats want to pass resolutions to impeach him, remove him, and ban him from running in 2024.”
—-
Hummm
That would mean, “lock him up”
Hummm
If Nancy does that then that will be the motivator for 70 million voters. Civil war would not be too far behind.
Hummm
A smarted move would be to let MSM forget to report on Trump’s golfing score.
“The millions who voted for him will dwindle, stray off, be repulsed or spend the next few years yelling at each other and the wall on Parler.”
I think that’s a bit optimistic.
There’s no getting this ugly toothpaste back in the tube. These people are going to keep yelling on Parler, yes. But the unhinged QAnon mess won’t stop, they’ll keep spouting off more and more insane conspiracy theories, which will be uncritically reported by “alternative news” sources like OANN, and shared on complicit social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter resulting in an ever-intensifying feedback loop of nonsense.
74 million people voted for Trump in 2020. This is AFTER the first 4 years and everyone knew how unstable he was. 74 million people don’t just fade away. Sure, you can (metaphorically) lock them in a room where they’re (relatively) harmless to themselves and others and forget about them. But these people are already whacked in the head, imagine the level of crazy we’ll have to deal with after they’ve been locked in an enclosed space huffing their own farts for 4 years.
Something big has to change, or else there’s going to be another wannabe dictator in our future, and I think they’re going to be worse than Trump. Worse not necessarily because they’re more authoritarian, but because they’re immensely less stupid.
Again you write from the heart Garth and are inspirational even when you’re dishing Trump then who hasn’t in the past day.
Covid-19 needs to be vanquished with herd immunity. As of today even the wealthy nations are WAY BEHIND vaccinating their people.
There will be hope, economies expanding like gangbusters when people see the back of Covid-19 and know they are immune. That has to happen before all you predict, and I agree, comes to pass.

Retired General Rick Hillier got it right last night when he said APPROVE AstraZeneca (Canada has ordered 20M doses). It can be stored in a cooler with some ice and the proverbial Nurse can go around and vax anyone in sight and quickly so.
No need for cryo, deep freezers and handling precautions.
Novavax (Canada has ordered 52M doses) is also a cooler with ice storage vaccine as AstraZeneca but results will not be known until March and then there are approvals, etc.
J&J end of January results (Canada has ordered 10M doses) and then approvals, etc.
——————-
The good General is correct and I believe the only hope for Canada (and other countries) to get back on track with vaccinations – AstraZeneca approval now before it is too late as in 2022.

thank you for reading my post. the confused is part of my user name
but it does represent my mindset. i am financially responsible as most on this blog and i think a avid investor . but i also see a few parties of people who are in huge debt and all they need is a few % rates up ie 2% and its going to be bad. if the mortgage is 1.79 and it goes to 3.25 % they will need to refinance or there goes their RRSP something like that.
judging from your response you have a more darker picture than i do . however i glad someone shares my belief :).
Sometimes i think i’m the only one or i’m a alien on another planet
If you think the end of Trump means that Trump supporters are going back to milquetoast cuckservatism, you are in for a rude awakening.
You could have had the decency to mention the name of the poor woman who was shot in the back by a cowardly cop yesterday (blood was spilled indeed, but not by the so-called domestic terrorist).
@ #21 Faron on 01.07.21 at 2:40 pm
regarding your poll: it needs to have some names added.
The challenge was a Survivor type test. That would mean both you and Jaguar should be up there. At the least.
I’m running both my smokers right now…one contains a couple of brisket points that I spent the past couple of weeks making into pastrami and the other has two beef cheeks going for barbacoa tacos tonight. So I stand, beer in hand, watching the smoke, checking the temps, thinking.
I’m thinking I really should wrap myself in some chiffon so SA’s homoerotic thoughts about me can be further fulfilled.
So add him to the poll as well, OK?

The end of the Trump era is a welcome relief. A lot of his actions were pro business but the hate and uncertainty that accompanied was counter productive.
Hoping that Biden does nothing and let the market heal itself using the liquidity provided by the Fed.

Terrible idea! Stop the self-immolation. We all have many sides and some things trigger (should I say that?) a strong response.
That’s life and that’s the way it should be… but…
Internet argument fosters one-dimensionality, so it makes it way too easy to create angels and demons. In reality, people are just people. With consciences. Our conscience makes us feel bad about saying things that may have come out too strong in the heat of the moment. It happens. No need to self-destruct.
In person, we would all get along.
Mr. Turner, I do hope you are correct & the drama is done. Unfortunately Trump is still POTUS until January 20th. So still time to do yet more damage, unless Congress finally decides to vote for impeachment & ban Trump from ever again holding public office. Because if they don’t, guess who will be back come 2024?
Markets are indeed shooting upwards. I take it we can expect mortgage rates to shoot higher in short order, along with inflation. Now all we need do is get that pesky virus under control & get people back to work. Here is hoping that happens soon!

Ha, you paint quite a picture. You had me until the chiffon. Maybe aim for the get-up that the Q-anon shaman was wearing in yesterday’s events?
I’d expand the list, but I don’t believe in silencing people. I do believe in leaving a party when I’ve overstayed my welcome no matter how “right” I am.
I will, and many times have, ascend from a murmer to a grumble to a yell at several posters’ ideas and then, when pissed, resort to jabs, personal or otherwise. But I do not recall having ever asked to ban anyone. I could be wrong there. I have straight told people to shut up, but not ban. It’s Garth’s private space to ban people and my own choice to offer to stay or go.
Enjoy the hard-won smoked meats. We have some slow cooker short ribs going today. Perfect cure for the grey days.

Garth, I don’t see you mentioning about your worry, deep concern about high inflation, high taxes and Canada being a much poorer country in the next 2, 3 maybe 4 years.
I think all the gains of stocks, people’s balanced portfolio’s will be more than wiped out by high taxes, high inflation etc.
Last night was tough. The swine emitted its final grunt.
Interesting how quickly we got used to his horrible crap. No wonder people who live under dictatorships are so desensitized.
Why can’t Trump run in 2024? As much as I’d like to see him fade away forever, I don’t think we are that lucky .
#53 Alphonse, “poor woman”? She was a dedicated Q follower, and her trail of social media tweets prove that she was a dangerously delusional person who saw herself as part of a revolution to overthrow the government. She was shot not in the back, but in the face/throat area, when she was trying to climb into a window to force her way into a room where some congress members were sheltering from the mob.
While there are Q adherents trying to martyrize her, others are actually distancing themselves, with some claiming she was a “false flag” planted by the “deep state” to make Q-ers look bad. Imagine that – she was so over the top that even some committed Q-losers are too ashamed of her to claim her as one of their own.
It’s amusing how Trump supporters are suddenly espousing anti-police sentiment for the very first time, calling them “cowards” and “traitors” and the like. What next? Will we see Q-Tips linking arms with BLM activists shouting “defund the police”?
Good summation, Garth.
As much as Trumpets don’t want to admit, Trump and anything to do with Trump is done. He’s toxic now. Anyone who doesn’t understand why needs only to listen to his rally words on the morning of the riot to his rioters to understand why that is and if they can’t get that, well… how does one politely say it, they won’t get simple:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vMXOO34JGk&t=1081s
All the politicians who backed Trump last night during the votes, few will survive the fallout of doing so. Trump isn’t just toxic, he’s traitor toxic and backing traitors is political suicide. Maybe some congressional Republican seats will survive in deep red states but, who knows, maybe not. If donors dry up and your reputation is you backed Trump…
What you say here Garth, “Second, Trump has done a fine job of destroying a great political party. Republicans have been ripped apart after mindlessly serving a despot and mentally defective thug for the past four years. Shame on them. Now they need to retreat, regroup, refocus and try to restore trust. It will take time, during which Democrats will run free with their agenda.”
It’s all true. This really was a great political party historically that is now divided, rudderless and lost. They blew it hard backing a mentally unfit and morally challenged self server as you so accurately state and they need to rebuild. The party needs some serious personnel changes, hopefully into something better than what the world has had to endure these last 4 years. It’s been painful to watch.
Why do we want this? Because Democracies thrive when there are 2 or more parties fit to rule, because democracies thrive not only on the strength of the ruling parties, but the strength of their opposition. Because, as we always find out, every party needs to be replaced sooner or later. To not acknowledge this is to have swallowed the koolaid:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhJY9-OE5vk&t=3s
The rest of what you say Garth, the markets sink or swim on profits. The S/P 500 is more resilient but not an island. 1/4 of the economy concentrated in 28 million out of 42 mil in Cali is offline. There are a few other states that have some serious economic restrictions, but most states have wide open economies as this site will atest:
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/states-reopen-map-coronavirus.html
Even so, we are likely to see negative Q4 and Q1 quarters out of the USA, nothing like the pancaked quarters of 2020, but they’ll be negative. A mostly open economy doesn’t mean free spending ways and the consequence, even though most are wearing masks in the U.S. is still high daily Covid19 case totals.
We may not see average daily cases under 200,000 until February, maybe even March. It really depends on vaccine roll outs and they’ve been slow. A Biden administration will take a couple weeks to get right footed, there are economic bubbles sure, but I think earnings season will be sobering and temper some of the wild speculation out there at least, until April. Then we see the economy pick up through summer or fall on hope and if valuations continue to get well ahead of the market, corrections that follow could be extreme and if the market corrects hard, the economy may just fall with it as the wealth effect reverses. We’ll see, the next month looks good. My 2 cents anyhow.
“Man who doesn’t want job anymore refuses to accept he was fired. Opts to violently resist being fired to somehow save face.”

Hey Juan Sanchez, remember when the media here in Canada made such a big deal about the 7% GST and how it was so bad for business and consumers. We should send in petitions and complain to stop Brian Mulroney and the PC Party in Canada fro this high tax grab.
Do you see the same Canadian media talking about the high carbon taxes just put in two times now just by Federal Trudeau Liberals and many other taxes. No and many more carbon tax hikes to come.
The Canadian media is as credible as the CCP in China. They are covering it all up. They are the same for decades now protecting, propping up the father of Canadian socialism, Pierre Elliot Trudeau.

“The millions who voted for him will dwindle, stray off, be repulsed or spend the next few years yelling at each other and the wall on Parler.”
—
I think Garth’s right here. A chunk of Trump’s base will be loyal to his ideas regardless. He gave them a platform and legitimacy to air their far-right views (the confederate flag wavers, the Q-anoners etc). But there’s a substantial chunk of Trump voters who will have been seriously turned off by what happened yesterday. Combine that with some timely and widely publicized crack downs in coming weeks on far right groups who violated law and you will see the MAGA selfie-takers from yesterday flee the “movement” apace. Simply not having a twitter-hyped goon in office and a media that has to echo his every word will make a big difference even though the relaxation time will be years rather than weeks.
It can’t be understated how important it was that the joint session resumed last night. After the melee, there was a power vacuum in the USA, something that hasn’t happened in many generations. The joint session almost had to continue if only as an international show of governance. They could have sat around and debated the merits of tofu vs. seitan, but they had to be there with Trump fully AWOL.
There will be growing space in the GOP for members who actually address the needs of moderate conservative Americans who have been dealt a bad hand by globalism. McCain would have been ascendant in this scenario were he alive. Romney will do well.

Very relieved Trump didn’t jump on this to declare martial law. With his trusty minions in key positions, and a likely fractured military leadership, things could have gone downhill quick…
“Terrorists… coup…”: anyone that fits the bill should be severely punished. To be fair though, many uninvited yahoos walked thru undefended gates, some cops smiling along, then ran the halls unarmed, yelling inanities and taking selfies. Misdemeanours for sure, but not terrorism-worthy. It is indeed a terrible image for the US, laughing stock abroad, with few foreign leaders denouncing Trump’s role in the chaos. Shameful from many PoVs!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
When Trump was first elected, he signaled loud and clear for everyone to leave the Clintons alone, despite all of their shenanigans, calling them “good people”. He was extending the olive branch and attempting to unify the country.
All Hillary would have needed to do to avoid the mess the U.S. is in today was say “Yes, I don’t like him either. In fact I can’t stand him. But he won the election, he is the President and we need to respect the Office. And let’s work to vote him out in four years.” But she didn’t. And neither did Obama. Instead, they doubled, tripled and quadrupled down, and egged on the MSM to run him to ground. And now, here we are.
I’m hoping that Biden has the guts to stand up to those who want to punish those who they politically disagree with. If not, the U.S. could get real ugly, real quick.

You are lying to yourself.
ASSUMING IF there is some truly seismic MAGICAL shift regarding the spread and belief of propaganda online in the next few days, then the best case would be 2 more years of crazies. But I see no evidence to believe that will happen.
However, if you want to share a study or investigation showing the gradual winding down of the right-wing media rhetoric and lies, as well as MSM manufacturing the illusion that everything is “OK”, then maybe I’ll consider the idea.
What we are looking at is the gradual slide into fascism. Graham is already talking about giving police and investigators more money to shore up security. Yesterday was the US Reichstag fire moment, with police happily stepping back, and even a few taking smiling selfies with the terrorists, so giving them money seems counter productive. The only thing that saved us yesterday was that trump having no real plan in place beyond mollifying his own ego.

#142 Joseph R.: “There are no “companies” in a communist system. If you see bailouts in your society, it means you do not live in a communist society.”
—
Oh come on, I am aware that the original definition of communism is a hypothetical society that uses no money at all.
————————————-
All societies have a concept of money; communist societies aren’t exceptions. They even use a form of currency as money: USSR had the Soviet ruble, China has the Renminbi, and North Korea has the Won.
Supply chains are a series of buyers and sellers as intermediate between you and the producer of a product. Example, for oil the supply chains is between the oil field and your gas station. The oil you buy went through dozens, if not hundreds of intermediate buyers and sellers before it’s in your Toyota.
If one or many of these intermediate seller does not believe it will get paid for it’s product, it will stop selling. Once this happens systemically (a lot of buyers), it can cause a perceived shortage of a essential goods (food, milk, fuel). When end consumers, YOU, for instance, believe they will face shortage, then you “panic buy”, which ends up causing shortage in the end. Once that occurred, you can end up with an hyperinflation death spiral…
Bailouts are about keeping the “spice” flowing, not about government picking winners or losers.
“Free markets” aren’t magically creations that solves problems automatically; they are there to keep products flowing from producers to end consumers.
Trump is very much a mobster-like figure who has pledged to take down anyone who doesnt toe his line while he is out on political sabbatical…like a capo that has to do jailtime, and expects his gang to keep his seat warm until he gets out, and has anyone acting ‘disloyal’ rubbed out.
The number of times he and his spawn have made it clear they are keeping ‘lists’ to threaten any in ‘his’ party that if they stray they will get the Trump retribution is sickening.
The Repubs really need to purge him and his mob if they want to again have a respectable party, and if it takes a full impeachment with senate conviction, so be it. That way he cant run again. And they dont have to do it before Jan 20, the constitution says they can do it long after he leaves office.

For sure, yorkville. Hearing the hilarious scenarios of a socialist take over in America is baffling. Socialists have no real power base in America anymore since union membership is under 10% in that country, and many of those union workers are probably “trumpets” anyway.
Yeah there are progressives calling for better treatment, but it’s always in the context of the existing system. Whatever, it’s easier to hand more money to the top, call the poor lazy, and let the poor tear each other apart over who’s lazier.
The US is gonna go further right. Once they solidify the narrative that leftists were egging on the trump supporters, it will be used as a pre-text to invest in MORE law enforcement, meaning more military guns and armored vehicles for good ol’ Barney Fife. This has been a total security failure and those in charge with protecting the building should expect a reprimand.
Ok bloggie doggies, lets quit the squabbling. We’ve got a good thing going here. The reason this blog & comment section is successful is because Garth uses the comments to provoke his intellectual curiosity. He needs this step to feed his muse to write the blog. Just like a dog it needs feeding every day. This means we always must attempt speaking with our true voice. Thats hard. Its a process. Some on here are farther along than others. Its not your point of view or knowledge or experience that is important. It is speaking your original thoughts to your own truth in your own words. Then, hopefully, each reader discovers distilling that truth will provoke intellectual curiosity. Which, if your lucky, (no divine intervention here) awakens the elusive muse in all of us. The truer the voices the more lucid the feedback loop for the muse.. Its tough, don’t give up. It’ll feel good when you know you said something original & unique. And funny, thats it, you’ve made it.
Third, this week everything has changed. Trump lost the House, the White House and now the Senate. His phone call last weekend to Georgia officials, telling them to rig the vote count in his favour, helped seal the deal. Georgia voters on Tuesday sent two Dems to the Senate – an historic moment – and now the blues are in charge.
reminds me of that great American classic “Gone with the Wind”
Caught a couple interviews in U.S. political contexts that I thought were worth a look. This GOP congressman gives me hope for Republicans because they actually have someone like Kinzinger in the party:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5tEOO0QfZw
Scaramucci has some humble insights and kind of gives a viewer a feel for how NY money sees it. Deprogramming is a right choice of words, its worth a watch:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WgtU9NkVlw
Once again, the invoking the 25th amendment… best guess is that Republican donors will decide it. If it was up to Republican politicians themselves, they just don’t collectively have a back bone to do it. (this is how far they’ve fallen and they’ve shown it over and over in mindless servitude to a despot) But! If their donors pressured Republicans do invoke the 25th, it would be through cabinet following Mike Pence’s lead and then its done. If it happens, it will be soon, as early as tonight and sooner is better. I think it needs to happen, its the best thing for the nation right now but whether it does, it’s a coin toss.
#92, No Alphonse, if you want to martyrize – or fetishize – a criminal who was shot by police for trying to violently overthrow the democratic institutions she was sworn to protect (she was an air force vet for crying out loud!) then YOU say her name, but at least spell it correctly. I’ll leave her to the anonymity that any common criminal deserves. Many police failed in their duty yesterday. But at least one of them stood up, did his job, and remembered what his sidearm was for.
Did Trump incite yesterday’s riot? Yes. He really did and the right thing at this point is to remove Trump from office. Whether that happens remains to be seen, but regardless, Trump should be removed from office. This is Trump’s speech to his mob of supporters before they left to riot the capitol building:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vMXOO34JGk&t=1086s
This is the timeline of what followed Trump’s riot rally:
https://www.cnn.com/interactive/2021/01/politics/us-capitol-siege/
Yesterday’s events are not about Trump when you dig down deep. Trump’s rise was because of people.
Forget the man, one needs to think about what is happening to western society. The Roman Empire eventually did fall down. We can look back in history, but what we are witnessing is nothing different from what happened then.
One must not think that yesterday’s events represent 49% of the US population it doesn’t at all. The other 48.99% did not participate nor would they have either.
Generally western society’s pendulum is swinging left for a reason. The rise in the markets and RE’s rise will only increase the wealth divide and therein lies the problem.
Not sure Biden spending will fix that nor will 4 years of Democratic party rule either. I really don’t know what the Great Reset is, but I suspect yesterday’s events foretells a future riot not about politics but wealth. Until a working man can afford to house a feed a family comfortably, a day of reckoning is in the future.
Why do you think they have been brainwashing kids for 30 years now that socialism in America is the answer. You will see that the US will be more like Europe in the beginning and get much worse and be a socialist cesspool.

No, the police did not by any means fail in their duty.
You or I have no idea what their orders were. I assume the orders were NOT to instantly use deadly force on anybody and everybody who stepped into the building.
It’s possible their orders were to use deadly force on anybody who tried to breach the specific room officers had chosen to barricade and protect. In which case it worked. A dead body hanging over the only entrance window to a room is a good warning.
Kudos to the police. Too bad an officer had to do it; that messes up some peoples’ heads.

Harry Cloberra #118, this is very interested you say that 30 years now they have been brainwashing kids socialism is the answer in America for 30 years.
It is just over 30 years the collapse of the USSR. The biggest communist 75 year experiment called the USSR, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. It makes sense they have to latch on to some similar amount of population like the US.
The USSR was around 289 million in population back in 1989 and the US population is today, 2021 is 331 million. It makes sense to me and looks really similar and coincidental that after 30 years now this is happening after 1 generation or so.
It was Ronald Reagan that told the US in 1964 a speech freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. The US is slipping away day by day.

“Excellent post, good sir. Hopefully this was the death of the MAGA cult. Better days are ahead.”
Could be, but I never thought Trump was leading this movement from above in the first place. He was the lightning rod, not the storm. He was following the crowd, not leading it. That should be obvious to anybody who knows what leadership looks like.
So we shall see. They obviously need a new leader now but leaders have a habit of arising when needed. This could be Kanye West’s big moment.
@#118 Harry Cloberra on 01.07.21 at 6:11 pm
Why do you think they have been brainwashing kids for 30 years now that socialism in America is the answer. You will see that the US will be more like Europe in the beginning and get much worse and be a socialist cesspool.
You will see America be totally fundamentally transformed like Obama said. Obama and the democrats are socialists disguised as democrats called progressives, liberals etc. America will be fundamentally deformed in 4 years for sure. Watch and see it be destroyed.

lol, sure buddy. always a good laugh when someone on here refers to the dems as socialists.

I don’t know what the fuss is about. Life is getting better, people are living longer, healthier, wealthier lives. The vaccine is here. I prefer to see the glass as more than half full. Be kind and do what you can to help out. Be part of the solution. Peace.
The Dems have the Congress, the Senate, and the Presidency so they can now implement their agenda without compromise. One thing they should do as part of that agenda is to take some lessons from Elections Canada, who run a very good and credible election process, and tighten up the integrity of their elections – or else the refrain of “stop the steal” will happen every time.

Anecdote Time! ( Ponzies Favorite!)
About 40 years ago I was at an US Festival in California.
350,000 people at a 3 day rock concert in San Benadino
The desert. 40 cel by noon
Hot, dusty, crazy.
The “campground” was fenced off from the concert area and was also fenced off from the outside world.
All day, every day the various police agencies patrolled inside and out of the campground.
San Berdoo sheriffs dept on horseback, State Police on dirt bikes. California Highway patrol on golf carts, helicopters, walking patrols, on and on and on.
The police presence was crazy.
But the private security guards controlling the gate, concessions, beer gardens, etc outnumbered the police two to one.
One of the Canadians I was with commented then about the endless police patrols…..,
“This is the Land of the Free?”
But very few problems.

Note that I am breaking my comments up more so I can figure out why I get DELETED or ghosted. Yesterday I got ghosted on a comment that could have been an outline for Garth’s blog today. Except I mentioned the possibility of agent provocateurs, which is probably why.
Anyway, I’ve seen the video of the woman getting shot and killed at point blank range. She was unarmed and appeared to pose no threat to the man who shot her. And he was lucky his aim was good, because there were 2 riot control officers with M-16’s right behind her. From what I could tell from the video, one of them immediately attempted to assist the woman and the other pointed his gun at the shooter and demanded he drop the weapon. He definitely shot to kill. At that range he had many options but he shot for the head, got her in the neck. She died. It was a disturbing video.
I saw another video demonstrating just how violent the mob was. Once in the capital building most of these violent protesters stayed within the red fences like they were on a guided tour. A couple of them took pictures in front of a painting depicting the Canadian invasion Garth mentioned. Not all of course, some of them also entered the chamber. But nothing caught fire. If there was an opportunity to burn the building down there it was, but no fires.
Then Trump sent out a message “peacefully go home”, and they did. But he is still an idiot. He never should have requested the march on the hill in the first place. Anyone with a lick of sense would know that you are just inviting false flags or unexpected outcomes. He should have sent everyone home after the rally. A true leader would have had the foresight to do that. But it is interesting I suppose in the case of any person’s life where you can look back at one decision that ruined everything. My ex-wife comes to mind for me.
Since I believe the way out of this Covid-19 mess is for Cdns. to have immunity and then prosperity ought to resume economically (not to mention peace of mind) a SCORECARD of vaccinations to the end of a Week Number comparing the Actual number of people vaccinated vs. the number required to be vaccinated for 75% herd immunity by (23,974,943 people): the End of Sept. 2021 and by the End of Year 2021.

A Facial Recognition Company Says That Viral Washington Times “Antifa” Story Is False
Matt Gaetz had cited the story in Congress as supposed evidence that antifa was involved in the Capitol assault. But the company says it’s “outright false.”
“XRVision takes pride in its technology’s precision and deems the Washington Times publication as outright false, misleading, and defamatory,” XRVision said in a statement to The Daily Beast. “Our attorney is in contact with the Washington Times and has instructed them to ‘Cease and Desist’ from any claims regarding sourcing of XRVision analytics, to retract the current claims, and publish and (sic) apology.”

I’d love to share Garth’s optimism, but I have serious doubts about Biden’s abilities to pull the warring factions together – in congress or in its citizens. Don’t know how well the US economy will do over the next while. This seems like a short term relief rally.
The Dems are full of whacky socialists and ‘progressives’ these days, and many Americans just won’t go for those ideas (that’s why, I believe, Trump got so many votes, despite his obvious failings). Biden will be pulled hither and thither by his own party, and likely won’t get much done (if he survives 4 years).
Let’s hope the protests end for now, as the US (and everyone else) needs a rest. Portland, Seattle, St Louis, Minneapolis and this latest one.
What are the MSM, Hollywooders, sports stars and talk show hosts going to talk about now with Trump gone? Because you can be sure they will never seriously criticize the Dems or Biden. Should be pretty boring, just like Biden.
Regardless, we should focus on our own problems – Mr. Socks’ Liberals.

Trump has vowed a peaceful transition on January 20th, which, so far as I can see, is about as close to conceding as you are going to get out of his mouth. So my prediction was right; he would concede after the electoral college results were ratified.

Couldn’t agree more!
Sadly Canada and America are in a period of Decline, in my opinion. If only our Leaders would consider using the fact that most Citizens, in America and Canada, have a personal computer or smart phone, and start acting like Democracy matters. There is a simple way to correct many issues…. ask the citizens, via Digital communications, their views, on major issues. If Canadians, and Americans, really felt they were included in the decisions, many problems, would dissipate. An example is Energy Independence. Ask Canadians, Trudeau…. might as well consider the Immigration question as well…. Health Care … some fees, for an annual visit? In todays world of High Tech, Zoom, Smart phones, Satellites, etc… there is no longer any excuses, not to ask the People, via Referendum, or MP interaction. People, are not content to support the three levels of government, at the current expensive levels, with out more interaction. A common problem, for example, is the Urban Rural divide, which is likely to become more pronounced as more people, WFH.
Run that by me again. What was Nixon and Watergate and a resignation? Compared to this?

Free speech does not include giving people a forum from which to incite civil unrest. Trump has been riling his base up for weeks. Yesterday was the last straw – Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat were morally obligated to not continue to give him a platform from which to cause further rioting and violence.
Would you like to see a repeat of yesterday or worse on January 20th?
Inasmuch as I find Trump abhorent, I recall that it was Gingrich who sowed the seeds that allowed Trump to happen.

You mean; just like Garth is doing for all of us on his postings/blog???
The last days were crazy for my portfolio. With the senate control, I expect the USA will start spending by giving money to the people who will spend it. I expect inflation.
The sad thing about the attack on the capital was the law enforcement or should we say lack of enforcement. It looks like only the secret service took their job seriously with the shooting of the protester trying to gain access to parts of the building. Biden is going to have very big job trying to clean up and restore the USA. I hope he does it, I am betting part of my retirement on it.
By mistake this was posted to previous article.
Yes, Trump is done, finished. The United States Deep State, after four years of relentless attacks from the controlled corporate media with RussiaGate and all the vicious personal attacks has finally done him in. The coup d’etat was of course the phony rigged election.
OK, he’s gone but there remains over 71 million Americans who voted for him and millions more who’s votes were flushed down the memory hole. These people know they are having their country, their livelihood, and their culture stolen from them. It spite of wishful thinking, these people remain, they’re not going away. The question is how will the oligarchs, the real rulers deal with them. We will see !!
Curious. Who’s stealing ‘the culture’ of 71 million people? – Garth
Why the heck not? Twitter, Friendface, etc. are all privately-owned platforms. Those corporations have zero obligation to offer a platform to Trump. Trump and his cronies and followers whine and rant about how evil it is that they get knocked off these platforms. They can go create their own. But they know these platforms have a larger following, and let’s face it, they want to reach some centrists and/or left-leaning people as well.

Nothing is new , we celebrate the victory of the Wall Street. And live happily ever after.
Faron, I may not agree with some of the things you post, but overall, I value your opinion. We need both sides of the argument on here.
As far as Biden goes (and the exit of Trump), my main concern is the hawkish nature of many of the people he’s appointing. If the US isn’t invading at least one country in the next 4 years, I’d be surprised. Other than that, let’s see what he can do to take the US into a more positive direction. Time will tell.
LETS LOOK AT THE TRUMP 4 YEAR MARKET :
DOW JONES 30 UP 57% / 14.3% A YEAR
S&P 500 UP 68.3% / 17% A YEAR
If we get 6% GDP growth we will have inflation. = Much higher interest rates
Booming economy = the end of QE, and direct participation in the market by the US Federal Reserve.
A Booming economy will mean tighter money, and investors will be turning to Value stocks which should do well. Growth Stocks will get thumped, and they represent a large piece of thew stock pie.
Prediction Biden will see flat to negative stock market for 4 years.
And if you really want to learn something of value read Stealth War by Robert Spalding.

This is why I stopped working 8 years ago and just live off my meager annual CPP, OAS, savings until I leave and be in peace from this world that is so rigged.
Pete, as mentioned yesterday, you can choose to be a puppet or a boss in this world. Sounds like you’ve played your cards and didn’t like them … and then took your marbles home with you.
Hey … if that works for you, so be it. I’ve chosen another route … much, much different than yours. There ain’t no mulligans in life!
Remember, here in Canada the Liberals federally have been in power for 70% of the time since 1867. They are responsible for most of the high taxes, high cost of living, high loss of freedom in Canada.
And there is probably a reason for that.
As I have posted all too often I have worked on two successful provincial PC campaigns which punched my ticket to a federal PC campaign. Which was successful. Even back then when the Progressive Conservative Party wasn’t full of the nothing burgers as it is today I was sure not going to remain in Ottawa…I could have been a contender but I removed myself as I saw zero long term benefit with remaining in the confines and on the payroll of the PC’s.
So I came home and went to adult work instead of the playing around stuff I was doing. And just like Sail Away I was successful. As was my wife. She built and ran the largest veterinary hospital north of Victoria. Big difference between a vet hospital and a vet clinic. Big money when she sold it too.
I ran my little cafes and diners and my brother and I did a little side gig with rental real estate in Calgary. Unlike the take that a business owner can’t get cash for the business I sure did. My partner in Calgary died, the business was there, I was here and getting older. Between the various insurance policies we held one on the other and the money the overtaking company offered even after the realtors, the tax lawyers, the tax accountants (plural, both) and the CRA I still qualified for private banking when all was done.
Today, just like Sail Away we are beyond comfortable, we are comfortable without having to even think about being careful. My wife bought a small office building a year and a half ago so she could house a couple of her favourite charities rent free.
And we did all this despite whoever was in power politically, whoever was imposing rules and regulation, whoever was attempting to impede our progress. Over a lifetime, sure, but boy did we have mostly fun doing it.
In Canada. The fact that any of you can’t is telling to me. Says something about aptitude and attitude.
In retirement I have invested in a small, boutique long term care residence company. Zero Covid cases and line ups both from folks who want to work for us and for families that want to place their loved ones. I invested in two drunks who I met in a bar. Bush rats we call them out here. They make a living pulling salal, scrap metal, berries, mushrooms, whatever out of the bush and selling it on. They thought that they had a mushroom business. My knowledge of food brokers and my money has tripled their sales, doubled their income and has been very lucrative for me as well.
Just playing around and I have more income than most. In Canada, my country. All you scrots bitching and moaning about socialist this and socialist that don’t even know what true conservatism is…how in the world do you expect those of us that prosper in this great country to even begin to take you seriously.
And as penance for a nonplused length posting here’s a tip: Would you buy shares in a company who has just signed on to produce EV’s for Honda with part of the reason being better batteries that have longer range, charge quicker and are more environmentally benign than the ones from LG or Panasonic. Think full sized delivery trucks with 1,000 mile range. Pick ups, SUVs with massive tow power and range that doubles and triples what is going on today. That is part of why Honda has partnered up with GM.
Garth might delete this post because he thinks I’m dissing him, but who allowed the photo substitution at the top of the column today?
Instead of the much needed cute canine shot, we get…what?…people refusing to pay admission before they use the D.C. Parks & Recreation public climbing wall.

Trump may have won without corona virus. Why is China refusing the WHO entry to do an investigation? There are more questions than answers. Why is life back to more normal in China than here? I am still suspicious of this whole thing and am worried about theUSA being too lenient in global affairs. I do hope that the USA can somehow come together from all this. Looking at ourselves 2021 is not bringing any hope either with slow vaccine rollout and continuing high cases. The chief public health officer just said a coup,e of weeks ago that transmission from flight is about 1 percent of the cases. All of the sudden we are having more and more restrictions and rights taken away. Why has the govt been so slow to bring in rapid testing? This was needed months ago. The economy needs to get off the ground and rapid tests could help in many sectors. The mental health issues I see from workers is like I’ve never seen before. SAD, depression and anxiety are all prevalent. I usually go south a couple of times a year to get vitamin D and just have a warm break from the cold winter. With all the restrictions that can’t happen. I’m grateful to work but can’t quarantine because not working from home. Here’s hoping for govt to treat this as war time. Heck getting H1N1 shot seemed more priority than then getting a vaccine now.

Got a call from a Trumper buddy in S/E WA yesterday during the occupation. I asked him if he was watching events unfolding in Washington. Nope, didn’t know a thing about it. Said he’d check it out and muttered something about a couple of million Biden votes which came from China.
Don’t give these people too much credit.

Trump has pretty much lost all credibility with what he says. A couple days ago, he said he would never admit defeat for the rest of his life, today he’s saying the opposite, tomorrow who knows but at this point, I’m not sure many still care. It’s really hard for Trump to put his riot rally back in the bottle now, and this following Sunday’s Georgia call to rig an election, it’s a total shit show. Really, its a shit show of a shit show, its up past his neck now.
Today, Trump is toxic. Tomorrow, he’s a pariah. By next week, Trump’s a leper. The knives are out for him now. Most our thinking about their future (finally) with this in mind now. Karl Rove’s words at FOX set the tone below at media that is as bias as it gets, Trump can no longer be defended. How can anyone, Trump incited a riot to the capital building no less! It’s beyond dispute, it’s unmoored, unhinged, its treasonous and simply reinforces the fact that it’s not Trump’s first treasonous act.
Hey, inciting a deadly riot isn’t just treasonous, its indictable! Trump is asking aids about self pardons when the legal strategy is full of holes, no one is above the law. Trump legally right now is best off to just go along with a 25th amendment so Pence can pardon him, its his best play to stay out of jail. A presidential pardon from vice president Ford worked for Nixon, there is a legal precedent, it will probably work for Trump but a self pardon? Doubtful and if the 25th amendment isn’t invoked, the Dems will go after Trump and he’ll have no friends to defend him. Maybe exile to Russia is Trump’s best choice, like seriously, where would he go?
Thing is, its not like Republicans shouldn’t have seen this coming, they failed to act and now they own everything that comes next as all three houses have just turned blue and all the momentum is on the Dem’s side:

My team and I are working closely with @MayorBowser

to respond to the situation in Washington, D.C.
Per the Mayor’s request, I am sending members of the Virginia National Guard along with 200 Virginia State Troopers.
Once Trump heard that he immediately took credit.
Check it out.
Thanks so much for your great post today Garth. Let’s hope we’ve seen the last of that crazed egomaniac and his creepy family. Nothing interesting about it.
More CBC pro socialist, politically correct drivel.
A billion dollar a year budget to have our “national tv channel” urinate on the very people that pay for their existence.
Which, if the CBC were forced to survive in the real world , would be very short lived.
Do you have any other links that are worth while or just more of the same?
Re: Type 1 civilization
Yes! Never have we as a species been less at odds, more technologically advanced, and more interconnected. Actual wars involving land seizure have been eradicated, with Kuwait being the most recent attempt. We now live in a global community with global expectations of behaviour applied to all.
Here we are being astounded at people wandering through the Capitol building when even 50 years ago, large scale genocide was still occurring.
Human existence is now simpler and more secure than it’s ever been.
I just finished reading ‘Sapiens’ by Yuval Harari, which details the gigantic advancements made throughout human existence. Excellent book.

Trump also told his followers to “peacefully go home”. Twitter banned that too, before the message could really get out.
Elon Musk said something along the lines that “Whatever happens will be the most entertaining”. Scott Adams elaborated by saying “Of course. The AI bots that control the news flow are programmed for maximum views.”
We live in a world of click-bait. If we are to understand the situation from what we can verify, one woman who posed no threat to anybody according to the to riot police standing behind her was shot in the neck, and 3 other people died of unspecified medical reasons. The capital did not burn. The “rioters” for the most part were walking in the ropes like they were on a tour. Not all of them mind you.
It was still a disgrace though. The protestors should not have entered the building and disrupted the proceedings.
But of course that viewpoint wouldn’t have generated as many clicks.
Please understand that if you get your news from the MSM, Facebook, Twitter, or Google you are being conditioned to believe absurdities. And of course if you get your news from the alternative media it is mostly conspiracy theories. They are all of them about the clicks and the ad revenue that follows. Truth, if such a thing still exists, is no longer important, and you will be hard pressed to find it on your devices.

————————————————————-
Would you say the main issue with the USSR was socialism, or authoritarianism?
As we have learned from the US’s brand of democratic capitalism, what you call a system is not always what it actually is in practice.
Would you say what Regan did with the unions was pro-freedom? When the Americans bomb a place, is it to bring freedom, or is it to enforce their own will?
Politicians use beautiful language to describe what their vision is for the country, while the actual policy they bring forward only secures those dreams for a few, while excluding the many.
Did the average citizen in the USSR truly have ownership, or even a say, in the means of production?
Even evil Mr. H called his project “National Socialism”, but what was the defining characteristic? Was it the workers truly owning those means, or was it brutal repression and conquest for the benefit of the few?
We get so hung up on names and words, and ignore what people actually do.
Too many dogs today on the picture :-)
Things are very unpredictable for me at present. Anything can happen in the USA in the near future. I think this kind of things are going to happen in other countries as well.
From first world to third in four years!
Jag, please don’t quit posting. Your whimsical and intelligent comments add sorely-needed value. Some of us have the attention span to read more than a few words.
Faron, for the record I support your right to post whatever you want. Garth is the final arbiter, no one else. I may personally prefer you didn’t, if only because your neediness is so cringe-inducing it makes the skin crawl, but I would never demand you leave. I do not share your belief in cancel culture.

It could only be more on the nose if you had bought a battered cross and nailed yourself to it.
And please do not flatter yourself by thinking I participated in your latest quest for validation. I can’t remember how many tens of thousands of visitors Garth said visit this site daily, read the comments, but don’t write any. But I hope you do the math and realize that 16 views is statistically insignificant and might wake you to the fact that what you (and I) write is too.

Remember, here in Canada the Liberals federally have been in power for 70% of the time since 1867. They are responsible for most of the high taxes, high cost of living, high loss of freedom in Canada. Good luck seeing the future as a socialist utopia.

“Truth, if such a thing still exists, is no longer important, and you will be hard-pressed to find it on your devices.” The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the convinced Communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction (i.e., the reality of experience) and the distinction between true and false (i.e., the standards of thought) no longer exist.

One thing with the West today, is that people are too taken with Politics. This stuff should be way down the priority list. Right now, some of the kids won’t even date someone who votes for “X”, or is a “X”, or who doesn’t think “X”. Meanwhile lots of knuckle draggers my age are married to card carrying Socialist NDP loving lefties. Probably the same for the Boomers.
Ms. IH and I are polar opposites politically, neither one of our votes has counted for years (although she did not vote for Trudeau last time because of blackface). Living is busy and can be tough, striking people out of your life because of how they vote is a loss for you, and a fail.
I have found in some ways, left/right thinking complement each other in relationships – if this thinking is left in its natural mild state.
How’s everyone liking the New System so far? In under a year it’s gone from “two weeks to flatten!” into WW3 Curfews – rolling out at the same time in the former First World countries. Yes curfews same as in WW2 (hint, we lost the real war. My grandparents tried hard)
Asia is excepted they are already under tight control.
The script must be rolled out SLOWLY so as not to spook us. Yes, Moderna just let it slip that the jab is good only for a year or two. Then you would lose your freedoms again. Why? Google ID2020.org it has been planned for years.
Anybody not on board with this plan has been FIRED. Did you notice a dozen people you had elected, in Kanada, were punted this week? The excuse of travel. What co-incience.
And this. It starts with the children, in this New System. Which is why Ontario cancelled in person classes…again…this week. Only 1 month!
The permanent lockdowns were extended again – in BC and Northern Ontario. Look for more curfews, per the plan.
So how long until UBI arrives in all the First world countries? Minimum wage = Maximum wage under the New System (UN new global order). $15 serfs

Sadly, yes.
If bond yields spike on the expectation of GDP growth, will CBs still keep rates at rock bottom til 2023 as previously forecast? Or will rates start to rise earlier than expected? If so, that might start to squeeze those overly indebted. Sounds like the second half of Biden’s term, with QE gradually diminishing, might not be so rosy.

That would truly make COVID the great equalizer.
As it is, the progressively strict (and increasingly useless) lockdowns have pushed normal people into my sordid lifestyle – y’know – staying home every day, sleeping in, not working, collecting some form of government administered money (in my case it’s my own money -CPP-but it’s kind of pogey like), over eating, over drinking, watching Netflix, and consuming more THC.
Now, with the possibility of CURFEW, even more people can become a slug like me: never going out at night, and going to bed by 9PM, then waking up to start the whole sorry cycle over again in perpetuity.
Who knew that I would have been the one to set this trend in motion years ago?

I knew you would come back with that.
Have you heard of the term “damage control”?
Because Trump said a few words that sounded reasonable after the fact, doesn’t negate all the inciting rhetoric used prior to the event of yesterday.
Think Non-plussed. Think. Stop being sucked into the lies.
Ustabe has a point. All of you lighting your hair on fire over “socialism”, or over politics in general, need to remember this Barbara Bush quote: “What happens in your house is more important than what happens in the Whitehouse.” We can easily translate that into Canadian: “What happens in your house is more important than what happens in the House of Commons.” I cannot help but notice that the successful people I’ve known over the years were successful under Liberal and Conservative governments federally, and PC, Liberal and NDP governments provincially. The only people I know who were in any way derailed by government were those whose businesses were directly dependent on government contracts when the government changed direction. (I’ll make an exception for the NEP, which was devastating for those working in the oil patch.)
I am not defending socialism, and I happen to believe that Pierre Trudeau badly damaged this country, and that his son is going to be equally damaging, if he hasn’t been already. But an obsession with politics, or worse, with government itself, whether you’re of the left or the right, is a cancer that is sure to bring more socialism, not less. That’s why the SJWs who support Trudeau and the right wingers who support Trump had very similar results when it came to the expansion of government spending. Trump ran record deficits during boom years to finance tax cuts and reckless spending. Trudeau used a deadly epidemic to promote a massive expansion of the social safety net. Either way we got more government and less freedom. Right or left, the equation is the same: Obsess over government and politics, and you will get more of both in your life. Want more freedom and less government? Stop obsessing over politics and government and get to work on your own stuff, whatever that might be. You get a vote every four years. Other than that you have little influence over the direction of government. But you do have the ability to change your own life. It’s 2021; what are you going to do this year? Blame Trump and Trudeau? Complain about socialism? Or capitalism? Or colonialism? Or some other ism that you’re convinced is destroying your future? Or are you going to take action to improve your own lot? When I was young, I wish someone would have slapped me in the head- good and hard – and posed that exact question, replacing 2021 with 1991 or so. I just did it for you. You’re welcome.

For sure. Personally, I am rethinking some key relationships in my life, that were struggling before, but now are even more challenging as fallout from the cult of Trump and right-wing media. Having excused much behaviour in the past, I am now even more convinced that their thinking is, well, ‘problematic’ and not likely to improve. It has gotten to the point where I stay clear of any political topic because otherwise, they will repeat conspiracy theories and propaganda to explain anything they don’t want to face up to.
There are endless articles, support groups, psychological analyses, books, etc focussing on the cult of Trump effect and right-wing propaganda. Even intelligent (in some ways) people are sucked into it. :(
#220 BillyBob on 01.08.21 at 6:13 am
Distractions, yeah… personal banter back and forth, entertaining as certain contexts may be, I’m looking forward to its fade back into the shadows so that the brighter minds of steerage can shine in the direction of this blogs wide lens mission. :)
I imagine the moment Trump realized he might have a place in politics occurred when he saw the now famous exchange between Senator John McCain (running for President at the time) and a woman at a town hall in Minnesota during the 2008 campaign. The woman, standing, addresses McCain “I can’t trust Obama. I have read about him, and he’s not, um, he’s an Arab”. McCain, the decent man that he was, corrects her, defends his rival Obama and even goes so far as to say he admires and respects him.
You have to think Trump saw this and thought of McCain, what a loser, use this woman’s gullibility and ignorance/racism to your advantage. Although it would have served him and his interests to do so, McCain understood the damage that lies, misinformation and conspiracy theories can do to a democracy and was not having it, forcefully speaking up on Obama’s behalf and against the lies told about him.
Trump, having preyed on the gullibility and greed of people who bought into the myth of Trump the Tycoon through Trump University and the Trump foundation, knew there would be an opening in politics for someone who catered to these “forgotten, voiceless Americans”. And so Trump the politician was born.
Yesterday, a woman and a policeman died because this reckless, feckless narcissist, having preyed upon the gullibility and ignorance of his followers for more than two months with baseless conspiracy theories about election fraud, urged them to do what people of integrity and common sense had refused to do – deny the legitimate election of Joe Biden by threatening the security of the lawmakers elected by all Americans. It is telling that those here who so frequently preach the gospel of personal responsibility are now so silent when it comes to holding President Trump responsible. The Wall Street Journal, a bastion of common sense Conservative values, this morning is urging Trump to resign to avoid his legitimate impeachment.
As much as I loathe Trump, we probably agree on one thing. When he looks out upon his followers and the enabling sycophants who stroke his ego and propagate his nonsense, he must be thinking one thing, dumb and dumber.

One just can’t help looking at Garth’s headliner and ask how the Trump presidency will end! The more I think on its legalize, it would be better for Trump and Republicans if he either resigned, or the 25th amendment was invoked (in the best interests of the shareholder) and then Pence pardon’s him. A Pence pardon gives Trump the best legal protection after stepping down from public life. Perhaps the best way for him would be to resign but both avenues would have to be followed up by a presidential pardon. If there’s an incentive for transactional Trump to fall on his sword or Republicans to invoke the 25th, there it is.
The CNN headline this morning read my mind “TRUMP FACES THREAT OF NEW IMPEACHMENT (that’s twice this week). If Trump doesn’t resign or a 25th amendment isn’t invoked, then the question of whether the Dems would, could and should impeach looms large.
Both newly elected Georgia Senators won’t be sworn in until next Friday on the 15th, I believe. Georgia could try to delay it, but under the circumstances (especially with that Trump Georgia call on Sunday, was it really only Sunday?), there isn’t much political capital in that. Until Georgia senators are both sworn in which likely won’t be until Monday the 18th, the Dems don’t have the power to table bills in the Senate but when they do, at any time Nancy can table it next week and Chuck can table it for a vote on the 18th in a hot minute and likely take votes within an hour.
So the question then becomes, “is it worth it?” Politically and ideologically, legally, is it worth it to impeach a sitting president with 2 days to go on his term?
Practically speaking the answer is no. Ideologically, legally and politically, there are all kinds of reasons why one should. There are standards to live up to here, examples that need to be set, precedence. Trump supporters especially need to understand this, what Trump did in inciting a riot at the capitol building no less, is more than an affront on democracy and the institutions of the rule of law, its way past a stunt here, people died. There were pipe bombs on scene, acts of terrorism, if you or I did the same thing we would be looking at 15 to 25 years in jail, maybe life without parole without a high end lawyer.
Someone like Trump who is clearly guilty of this and caught dead to rights, 2 years in jail? Flip a coin as to whether Trump spends it in minimum/medium security or does 2 years concurrent in max, that’s up to a judge. When one looks at it from a legal standpoint, any future inciter of riots can point to the president’s sentence for leniency. Precedent only goes so far, but it does have weight in the courts of law, including the argument against impunity itself.
What I’m saying is, the Dems will have to make an example of Trump whether they want to or not. What he did was criminal and he’s caught dead to rights. (that’s just riot incitement, what follows if Trump was behind lax security, potential multiple charges, it could be worse) Clearly, it will be a mix of both (Dems will and won’t want to).
Republicans will counter that with 2 days to go, its all a waste of time, a stunt. Dems will counter that Trump is a criminal and needs to be made an example of and if they had a majority Senate, Trump would have been rightfully impeached a long time ago. Some Republican Senators looking at their futures might go along with that and the Senate finds enough votes to impeach before inauguration day.
Both arguments have merit but at the end of the day, only one president from one party will be impeached… unless Republicans/Trump choose what is best for Trump (and Republicans) legally and Trump falls on his sword and resigns or Republicans scrambling to keep donors invoke the 25th and Trump is later pardoned by Pence.
Why should Republicans want Trump to resign or Pence invoke the 25th paving the way for a pardon? Without legal protection from a presidential pardon, especially if Trump isn’t impeached, newly minted AG’s will go after Trump “hard” and who really knows what they’ll find. Bribery, public theft of funds, the obviousness of inciting a riot, election tampering, fraud, Russian collusion, there are dozens of clear cut reasons of self interest as to why Republicans would want a presidential pardon for Trump.
Trump – the man – meant well. Trump – the president – was a failure. He was clueless as to what he was up against. A little knowledge is dangerous.
Relentless leaks, false accusations, impeachment, special investigations. Vitriolic leftist attacks from the Democrats & within his own party and from “retired” deep state bigwigs. The 24/7 slander and howling from the media. All culminating in an election which left us with more questions than answers.
What was Trump’s response to all this? The volcano threatened to erupt, is what he did. He rumbled & shook & belched out rocks, choking sulphur & tweet storms. And the media darlings couldn’t get enough.
They never let you take your eyes off this spectacle for even a minute. They screeched out in unison — Look out! He’s gonna blow! Any minute now the Russian spy will hit the nuclear button!
But there was no eruption, no engulfing lava flow. North Korea didn’t nuke us. BOTH Wall Street & Main Street flourished (all without benefit of trillions pumped in by the Fed). Unemployment reached record lows. Trump never started any wars. He pulled back troops & ISIS largely became a thing of the past.
Most everything we’ve been subjected to in the last 4 years has been a construct. A cooked up media psychodrama. In reality — the volcano was all fury and then… pfft!
Because there were no arrests. Censorship is gaining steam. Julian Assange is still rotting in prison. And BLM & Antifa were given free reign to loot & burn city after city for weeks on end. A complete Trump fizzle. Pfft.
So, this Season 4 finale is nearly over. Perhaps even with a surprise ending (emergency impeachment #2)? It was a smash hit with ratings through the roof.
A new series begins January 20 — starring Biden & his giggling VP. Featuring your favorite NeoLib villains Nancy Pelosi & Chuck Schumer in a demonic alliance with the NeoCons. An exercise in pure power unleashed.
This series will start slowly. Give it time. It will seem a little crawly & boring. But a little strange at the same time… as you stand on the shoreline and wonder where all the sand is coming from and where all the water has gone. Be patient. It will all make sense when the tsunami hits.
Volcano Trump was a bit of a disaster. But a tsunami? That’s a cataclysm.
So, 400,000 dead Americans, the complete polarization of the USA, unfounded allegations to undermine democracy and an attempted takeover of Congress by a Trump mob is…like…nothing? You Trumpets are a rare breed. – Garth
While the debate about US politics is stimulating, may we please have a debate about the market insanity that is Tesla? Should we buy?
If you believe that real conservative Trump supporters were the ones who “stormed” the capitol then you are delusional. Those doing the storming were Antifa. All done so as to discredit Trump. False flag operations to provide fodder so that Pelosi and Schumer can trot out their phony outrage. Mr. Market might like it, but the tribulations are gaining momentum. The USA under Biden will now give free rain to China who have already cracked down on Hong Kong. They will now proceed to try and Annex Taiwan. A major shit storm is on the horizon.

Stop obsessing over politics and government and get to work on your own stuff, whatever that might be.
______
Many folks have big issues with this mindset. I will offer some strategies that worked for me.
Rather than get mad that Trudeau is our PM, I developed and implemented several strategies to reduce the taxes that I pay to his government. This kept my mind busy doing positive things, and saves me a bundle. It became a bit of a hobby, and I plan on continuing indefinitely. Funny thing – I ended up being a recipient of tens of thousands of Trudeau handouts and free cash since I started not paying hardly any taxes to his government. Is that weird or what? I don’t even know what Trudeau is up to most of the time.
Take those savings and Trudeau bux and invest them in your property – labour by you. Dopamine rushes await, as does tax free capital gains. Take those handouts and stuff them into your TFSA and your RRSP – now you make jokes with your buddies about how Trudeau gave you a tax free benefit, and you employed it to lower your taxable income, generate a large tax return, and earn tax free gains! You’ll have a good laugh over a few beers, feel great, and forget all about what’s his name in Ottawa.
If all else fails, buy an antique track layer to restore. This will consume all your time and all your money. It will periodically drain you of your will to live. You will not have the time or energy to get mad about politics.

20 years ago that was true. Now the garbage agitprop is easily made and distributed by any grifter with a microphone. Now we have an entire field of fake news personalities blaring hate and discord under the guise of free speech. MSM is tricky in that they misdirect with the truth, while the new crop or AONs and Infowars just straight up lie and yell.
It’s sad that the conservative ideology surrounding personal responsibility is so easily discarded at sight of a dollar.

Yes, those are known as ‘intolerant people’. They would benefit greatly from a stint in the Army.
I read Garth’s columns because of who writes them, an individual who has experience across several realms and who has managed to successfully integrate lessons learned from each. He has my respect for his good judgement. And, he is successful, which surely must stick in the craw of some of the more disingenuous and unsatisfied posters on this blog. I suspect for many of the malcontents and negatives who post here that must come as uncomfortable.
Another source of information and news that I find worthwhile is the The Economist. It offers clear explanations, insightful commentary, and an overview of many areas including politics, technology, and the arts.
Trump is aging and the stress he is under will surely shorten his life and impair his capacity. I do not believe that he will be a long term threat although how he has enabled some deplorable and foul actors will be a source of anguish and conflict for decades to come.
I always find it amazing how many Spanky supporters moan about the evils of socialism, while in the same breath get upset about defunding cops or demand a $2000 hand out instead of a $600 one.
The end is nigh….The end of the beginning….Not the beginning of the end….

Thanks. I try to. I maintain that the root of much of this is the revolt against information that big tobacco helped start and that the hippy movement helped make mainstream. Couple that with decreasing real human connection (even in light of Harari and many others’ hypotheses) leading to increased despair and a world now rife with for-profit misinformation sources and social media funhouse mirrors and you’ve got a bad mix. nah, it’s been confirmed.
Here’s another great idea on how to forget about the MSM and Politicians:
Go out to your local YAMAHA dealership, and buy yourself an ultra-sweet new RMax 1000 SXS
Here’s an honest review on the RMax from a Canuck run organization from northern Ontario (along with some sweet Ontario forest trails):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ydyNnwNBl8
Buy that sucker, get yourself an EOTA permit, and plan a trip. Thousands of km worth of trails going all over the Province – you won’t need a road going vehicle AT ALL. You could easily make a week long trip out of it.
When you get back and are done scratching, all you will be thinking of is planning your next trip. Maybe trailer to Sudbury and get way up north (don’t try this if you own a Polaris).
I’ll be doing exactly this once I get Ms. IH on board with dropping 30 grand on this thing. (For my mental health, and overall wellbeing, of course.)
@Sara and Faron. Get a room already
220 BillyBob nailed it
@TurnerNation – The new system sucks, but unfortunately its here to stay. Not surprising to those that have been paying attention, but there will be a steep learning curve for those who haven’t. The massive greed and corruption in this world sickens me, however I’ve learned to somewhat let it go for there is not much I can do to prevent this slow moving train wreck
I choose not to participate in the new system (as much as legally possible) and vote with my wallet. I like to understand what and where the goods I buy come from and have never been caught up in that rat race of buying junk I don’t need
I think its probably more than coincidence that this virus appeared in late 2019-20 and am amused by people who say good riddance to 2020 and welcome 2021 and figure this virus will be in the rearview. false hope.

Have you considered a stint in the Army?
#215 Nonplused on 01.08.21 at 12:38 am
Trump also told his followers to “peacefully go home”. Twitter banned that too, before the message could really get out. – Nonplused
Within the same tweet, Trump called it a “stolen election” using the same language that incited a riot. What should Twitter do, start redacting Trumps tweets?
“The capital did not burn. The “rioters” for the most part were walking in the ropes like they were on a tour. Not all of them mind you.” – Nonplused
Like I said earlier, minimize and exaggerate until the riot never even happened right? Normalized and now expected, the next one barely moves the needle. 5 dead needs to be a dozen next time to generate headlines and, well, more die in a WHO concert, big whoop and each time is worse than the last which gets ignored and “how can I further my career” turns into “how can I keep from getting shot” and hate speech turns into a gas chamber.
That’s how it works man, it’s incremental over time and if stuff like this isn’t put down, it becomes a monster like 2 months of election result denial turning into a riot with 5 dead.
Walking within the ropes like rioters are on tour, a walk across a lawn, think Nonplused. More than 50 cops were injured alone. If it was you or I that incited this riot to the capitol building, we’d be doing 15 to life. What Trump did was criminal, ok? Do you get that yet?
“one woman who posed no threat to anybody according to the riot police standing behind her was shot in the neck, and 3 other people died of unspecified medical reasons.” – nonplused
Its 5 deaths now and do you understand the definition of the word “medical emergency”?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_emergency
“A medical emergency is an acute injury or illness that poses an immediate risk to a person’s life or long-term health, sometimes referred to as a situation risking “life or limb”.” It’s not just a medical term, its a legal term. Perhaps this link will expand your awareness as to why it’s called “medical emergency”:
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9124461/US-Capitol-Police-officer-DIES-following-MAGA-mob-riots-Congress-marking-FIFTH-death.html
A 50 year old stroked himself, a 55 year old gun nut had a heart attack, a 35 year old woman with a legal history got shot, a first time young woman protester from Georgia got trampled to death and a cop died from a concussion from the riot. Trump incited a riot, he’s on a 75 minute riot rally video dead to rights over it and people died because of it. Today he’s toxic, this weekend he’ll be a political pariah and next week he’s a leper. You should have known the Trump train was off it’s rails, don’t be surprised at what happens next.

*******************************************
I’m not a Trump fan. And I’m also not a Never Trumper. Individual politicians don’t rule my emotional life. Their personalities are irrelevant. I’m not having dinner with them. Their actions & policies are the only thing that matters.
The polarization was pre-existing. That’s why Trump was elected. Media ramped up the polarization into the stratosphere & people who DO have their emotional lives invested in politics bought into this spin.
Don’t blame the COVID numbers on Trump. It was up to the governors to implement restrictions. And Trump heavily funded the warp speed vaccines.
Biden/Harris will soon be in place – Team Lockdown. Look for T2 to cozy up to his ideological counterparts & implement even more heavy handed & economically destructive policies. He’ll follow their lead in lockstep – although he hasn’t skipped a beat on his own so far.
Many in the USA are fleeing to Florida which is open for business and where you can still have some kind of a life. Watch for the new Democrat administration to come down hard on Florida.
Democrat states & judiciary were in open revolt against Trump policies (sanctuary cities, defund the police, no more ICE, etc). All with the media’s blessings. Now watch the same media go ballistic if DeSantis in Florida defies the Biden administration in any way.
CNBC barely covered the market yesterday. They were only interested in “one of the darkest days in American history” & ” the attack on the temple of our democracy.” This narrative was delivered in reverential tones.
Just when did the Capitol Building morph into a temple? Does that make Biden their God-emperor?

Good post Garth. Ok, it’s been 8 crazy days, see you all in 2022.

Pathetic. Not Trump though. Listen to Conrad Black interview on BNN. If you don’t want to listen to him, oh well, what are you doing on financial blogs, there should be a more appropriate activity for you. As for the events on Wednesday… not much happened – someone sat in Pelosi
s chair. She’ll need to disinfect it thoroughly. People died.. but why, we still don’t know. We don’t know why the police removed the fence and invited people in. It’s all on video. We don’t know why some were shouting “No Antifa!” as masked men were smashing windows while not masked men where trying to stop them. We don’t know why left wing activist was filming inside the Capitol. All we know is “Orange man bad” and allegations of *widespread* electoral fraud are unfounded. Yeah, right!
