The fail

What a blog. My snappy portfolio manager buddy Ryan set you up for Trump’s pivotal Tulsa rally with his astute, research-based post yesterday. And today I will clean up the damage.

Not from Mr. R, of course, but Mr. T. What an awesome mess the 45th president of the United States has left in the wake of his Oklahoma excursion, and it’ll be interesting to see how financial markets react over the coming days and weeks.

First, the hype. The Trump campaign, the man himself and lots of his parrots and cockatoos on this site chirped about one million people having requested tickets for a mass rally of historic proportions. Well, didn’t happen. About ten thousand showed up. That’s a mess of people, for sure, but it left half the seats empty and amounts to 1% of one million. There was no overflow outside, when the campaign had suggested perhaps 40,000 might clog the streets. So a speech by Trump in that location was scrapped. The elaborate outdoor stage was dismantled. And claims that MAGA fans had been turned back by protestors was showed, live on TV, to be false.

In short, a disaster. One of the biggest fails in modern campaign history. The base did not rally. No flocks of new supporters. A sea of vacant blue seats.

Turns out hundreds of thousands of tickets were reserved by TikTok dancing kiddies and K-poppers doing mischief. Imagine, using the Internet for political reasons. Like Trump on Twitter (‘Hillary is a criminal!’, “Joe has dementia!”). The real worry for Republicans is (a) how the most sophisticated and data-oriented campaign ever didn’t pick this up and (b) why Trump and others fell for and promoted it – a million attendees in the middle of a pandemic. Duh.

Second, Covid. Truly scary, since Oklahoma has recently seen a spike in cases and public health officials warned against a rally, complete with a Presidential mosh pit. In fact, this was the largest mass gathering on the planet since the pandemic arrived – which so far has infected almost 9 million and  killed 467,000, a quarter of them in the US alone.

Most people did not wear masks. Maybe 10%. During his speech Trump said he’d asked officials to “slow down testing’ for the virus because too many new cases were being discovered, making him look bad. And yet every public health official everywhere has said without testing the virus spreads undetected and cannot be halted. Less testing, more deaths.

In fact, pre-rally we learned six Trump campaign staffers have Covid. They were removed, of course, and it was reported today 45 was livid this news had been allowed to leak.

On stage he called the virus ‘Kung Flu’, a racially-charged epithet. Coming amidst the mass protests against racism on three continents, this was a shocker. While the president likely thought he was just dumping on China (again), this is not what Americans of Asian heritage (23 million) want to hear. More polarization, blame, discrimination and hate in US society. Not what you expect from the boss.

Today Trump has more to worry about than he did Saturday afternoon. His campaign let him down. He looks weaker, less relevant. John Bolton’s tell-all will be published Tuesday. Tulsa suggests there’s no silent majority, but a reckless minority. And no amount of inflamed rhetoric or oratorical passion can chase off the demons the president faces.

Forty million Americans are out of work, as the jobless toll swelled from an historic low to Depression-era levels. Public finances have been creamed as Washington spends trillions to stave off decline. Economic growth has turned into a GDP crater. It’ll take years to climb out of the hole. Half of Americans are still terrified of Covid and say they’re not ready to go back to work, fly or eat out. Finally, hundreds of thousands of people of all backgrounds, ages and races have been in the streets since the death of George Floyd in a movement the guy in charge does not acknowledge.

Whatever your leaning – right or left, con or lib, GOP or Dem – facts are facts. Trump narrows his base of support daily in mishandling these pivotal challenges. Tulsa was meant to be a symbol of renewal and rebuilding. Now it suggests naivety and ego. He looks remote, out of touch. More extreme. Every time he calls his opponents a ‘mob,’ he drifts further from the mainstream of voters, who worry more about their health, their jobs, their families. Joe Biden may be ancient and a tad creepy, but he’s no rad.

Mr. Market preferred Trump. Expect change.

I think there were a lot of older adults afraid to come out to the rally because of Covid19. They really don’t like the protests and chaos happening in America right now and unlike the kids of Tik Tok or overseas K-pop fans, they can and will vote on election day.

Not sure if Biden has enough support to win or if it’s just media hype like the 2016 Election. He may be just Hillary 2.0.

Euphemisms can be so confusing. Some people talk about the Right versus the Left when what they are really talking about is the Right versus the Wrong. It is very important to be Right and not Wrong. The sophisticated and discriminating individual will understand this completely.

Some facts are more factual than other “facts.” So-called “facts” can be such a hoax these days. In this current age of fake “facts,” it is not wise to rely carelessly on anyone’s self-serving “facts.” From Al Gore’s woman-made climate hysteria, to 57+ different imaginary genders, to money growing freely on trees and flying off printing presses, to deliberately fake polls, we are entering an Age of Nonsense. Do not believe any of it.

In these times, nothing is a done deal.
However, if anyone starts to want change, can you imagine Biden being controlled by the radical side of the Democrats.
It’s not that you have good choices. You choose lesser of the bad. You have to experience crap and crappier. Not what is good. That is the issue. Nobody in their right mind would run for President today.

Have good intentions with some sacrifices needed by the populace? You will be destroyed by the media. Suggest some radical thoughts and socialist policies, and you will be loved by the media with long term consequences. Nobody liked Harper towards the end, but do we really want what we got?

So quick to forget our own history.

#27 Attrition on 06.21.20 at 1:25 pm

Garth, this may be one of your most off-point posts yet.

It’s pretty bold, or worse, to suggest you know “what Americans of Asian heritage (23 million) want to hear”.

The South East and West Asians in my family think Trump is being way too soft of the Chinese communists for their lack of initial response to the Covid. Bet you didn’t know that.

Also, the story isn’t one of heroic Trump-hating TikTok users organically joining forces to block ticket sales to his rally.

The story is, or should be, that TikTok actively ignored or disabled their AI algorithms that detect this type of misuse, and allowed it to proceed.

I hope you realize how significant this is. This isn’t people abusing social media or using influence to sway voters, this is a huge corporation actively interfering in an election campaign.

I hope you know or remember that “TikTok has more than 1.5 billion all-time downloads, and is owned by a Chinese internet company called ByteDance”

Eyes wide open folks. This is huge. Expect a response from the Trump Administration.

As for Trump’s base, I think that despite being as astute and experienced, wizened and grizzled are you are, you may not be able to understand a key characteristic of Trump supporters.

And no, it’s not hate, or bigotry, or racism or insularity or any of the other horrible things so often repeated about people who are, in general, social conservatives who want to see less government not more.

It’s that these types of things–calling average people racist, social media companies taking political stances, Marxist movements masquerading as rights organizations, and Democrat-condoned anarchy in the streets–are what makes them vote Trump in the first place.

It’s always about the economy, but only when it’s not about the American way of life under threat. Whether this perception is accurate or not doesn’t matter.

Trump supporters will be galvanized by recent events to come together for love of country, not to hate any one thing. And it’s going to be epic.

The changes caused by Covid19 are not going away anytime soon. The virus may or may not be with us for some time but the changes are most definitely permanent.

Traditional brick and mortar businesses and the old economy will continue to be under significant pressure. Banks, insurance, transports, autos (ex TSLA), oil&gas, basic materials, traditional industrials, traditional pharma are all likely to continue to underperform and post lower returns for longer.

#37 Shawn on 06.21.20 at 2:07 pm

Add airlines, cruise lines, casinos & entertainment, commercial real estate, anything related to sports, retail (ex AMZN) to groups to continue to be under significant pressure.

Bang on Garth, for all the reasoning that you say.

Most, if not all, MSM papers in Europe showed a half empty stadium be it BBC, The Guardian, DW, France 24 or Corriere della Sera (though, the Italians pleased Trump defended Christopher Columbus). Italian right wing dailies didn’t even make mention of the rally.

Twitter today, dead silence from the Right (they are normally VERY vocal).

Not totally quiet, die hard Charlie Kirk claiming 1,000,000 tuned into Trump on YouTube. That was from many news sources combined (ABC News, Washington Post, DW News, USA Today, etc.) and a couple were 4 or 7 min. snapshots of the rally. The Guardian streamed LIVE had 272K views (incl. after the fact).

Oddly the Business channels had a HIGH viewership (incl. after the fact):

Yahoo Finance 1.6M views
Bloomberg Quick Take News 1.8M views

As you said, we’ll find out tomorrow and the days to follow what their take away was.

So wrong, so horribly, horribly wrong and the result is the total, now unstoppable, ascension of China at the expense of America.

Every other world leader had a plan. We all knew there was limited time to act. What we needed as an “all against one” mentality. Every country that bordered the Pacific would have to work together, as one, to limit China’s growth. By working together, when China struck Canada, it was also striking Thailand the source of much of China’s rice. When they struck vietnam they were also striking USA, the source of machinery and food for China. Together, we could take on the giant before he grew too large.

Enter: the orange idiot. He throws out the Trans Pacific Partnership, which as stated above had ONE goal isolate china and instead forces every country to go 1:1 with china. China signs a fake trade deal with the US, with zero intention of every buying an american soybean again. China wins. The trade deficit goes UP as American s pay $300B in new taxes. China wins again.

Trump isn’t a ‘knight’ he’s the court jester, bumbling around with no clue, cancelling things his feeble brain doesn’t understand, possibly permanently destroying America’s place in the world…

Here is what the Forever Trumpers should really worry about.

If Trump cannot draw crowds to his rallies or his rallies are outright blocked by local health officials as the US COVID cases continue to reach new highs in Southern states, how quickly will Trump sour on campaigning. The man feeds off the adulation of a sea of MAGA hat wearing sycophants. Without the fans will Trump even campaign. There are already numerous reports from aides that question whether Trump is intentionally sabotaging his own reelection because his heart is not in it. I am pretty sure Melania does not want 4 more years (in the Whitehouse or elsewhere for that matter)

“In short, a disaster. One the biggest fails in modern campaign history. The base did not rally. No flocks of new supporters. A sea of vacant blue seats.” — Garth

Everyone was effectively at the rally, online and in spirit, if not physically. Appearances can be deceiving. With Photoshop, seats can be either filled in or emptied out. Therefore, it follows logically that nobody other than President Trump really knows for sure exactly what happened at that wildly successful rally. That rally could become iconic, like Elon Musk getting his assistant to break the unbreakable glass on his newly revealed Cybertruck. What ingenious advertising gimmicks!

You need to understand that none of the daily noise matters. The supposedly empty seats at the rally are obviously just there to fool the pollsters and other media bums. Such things as disgruntled John Bolton’s tell-nothing book that blathers away for a buck can never be taken seriously by any serious person. No so-called disasters, not even the biggest so-called fails in modern campaign history, can stop President Donald Trump from being re-elected. He is like a big tough tank rolling over little lowlife BLM criminals.

Watching any of the fake news between now and election day will prove to be a complete waste of valuable time — precious time that could be better spent out in the garden. People are all upset about this.

In reality, COVID has likely burnt itself out in Ontario.

And as long as we keep our 14 day quarantine measures in effect, and keep the US border closed tight, we should be fine to gradually go back to our lives here.

The biggest risk we face right now, is that some genius will open up our international borders, and let in new strains of the virus, which will then take off and start killing people again.

I would suggest a further review of what the TPP actually was might be in order. There was nothing in that agreement that would actually accomplish anything to reign in the severe abuses by the communist military dictatorship.

Restatement and minor tweaking of already failed systems of monitoring and enforcement accomplish nothing, other than providing useless talking points for the over-educated, the politicians, and the apologists of the world.

Trump-Biden, Right-Left, Red-Blue.
Doesn’t much matter. Neither are for the people anymore. Since Daddy Bush, the push to weaken America began in earnest.

Trump appears to be pro strengthening America. The deep state controlling most intelligence agencies, a chunk of the military, the media, google, Democratic Party, google etc is pro China. It has been weakening America for decades.

The status quo since Reagan has been a managed decline of America. Enter Trump who isn’t on board is demonized, ridiculed and marginalized by all deep state actors. Remember T was voted in because people were fed up with false feel good promises while there was a large sucking sound of American manufacturing/jobs moving to China.

With Dems in power the USA slowly turns into a Chinese style (or rather a CCP) government albeit masked behind the illusion of American Democracy where people have the “power of the vote”. But see what has happened since T was elected? Every effort by the DS has been made to remove him. I’m sure there are other plans in the works to ensure he does not remain in power. These tactics alone should wake people up regardless of what side of the political spectrum they are drawn to.

Does T care about the people? In my opinion, no, just as the Dems do not either. The Dems want power for its sake. T wants a stronger USA, perhaps more ego driven than anything else. In that aspect, the people benefit indirectly by a stronger economy. Bottom line, the people do not have a true friend in government.

What T is doing in my opinion whether he is aware of it or not is not only to strengthen America, but is also accelerating the innevitable global confrontation between evil factions vying for control of the coming One World Government. Not good for the people whoever “wins”. Maybe this is why so many people have this deep rooted fear/hate of the man that wasn’t really there before he got into politics. Perhaps they can sense “the end”. Or, maybe they’re heavily programmed.

Life Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness will have degenerated into mere existence that meets the minimum physical requirements for the body to perform labour. A conquered demoralized and dispirited populace thankful only to be “alive”. How sad for humanity that has lost its way. It has been prophesized that there will come a time when the living will envy the dead. Hold on folks!

Widest at 80 mm. Seed sales are up 400% this year. Of course you noticed a lot of friends/neighbours put in a big “Garden”. Go now for canning supplies. Buy lots. Pressure cookers with the weighted toggle constantly venting are best. Pay attention to protocol. Your building a bomb.

#88 DON on 06.21.20 at 6:29 pm

My take on the US Election: Overall, too early to tell. Trump is a street brawler. It all depends on the context.

(Disclaimer: I don’t have any stake in the US election other than being affected via trade etc.)

In the last US election it appeared that America wanted change not the same old same old from any of the front runners the DEM or REPUB could muster (with all the brilliance America has to offer). Trump was the one offering a return to ‘MAGA’. Voter sentiment shifted just enough to elect Trump (in the last few weeks of the election). Before that a lot of people believed a Trump win was not even possible. Even with media reports in the weeks before the election revealing Trump’s current and past indiscretions.

Trump is a political street brawler and there are no rules. He hasn’t even started his A-Game. Tulsa, (lol) – who in the middle of COVID USA would want to go out to a political event in the summer. Someone lied or got duped – who nows!

By the time September rolls around Trump will be in full form (Attack, Deflect, Weave, Deflect, Redirect, Re-explain, Apologize to some extent, then Attack…). June will be like March is to us now (more or less). Voters forget and a whole summer will wipe memories. Trump hammering China for the VIRUS, Trade, JOBs most likely resonates with a fair number of Americans, but the ‘Kung Flu’ comment during a time of anti racism protests is sheer stupidity. But Trump will re-explain it as he will for any comments he made about the protests that were considered in appropriate.

Lastly, Trump holds the Office of President and has been privy to all sorts of information. The stock market has seemingly bounced back enough for Trump to regain his stock market promise.

I just wonder how many of those protesters will actually show up and vote on election day. I know the silent majority of older folks will show up. Wonder what they think of Trump and ‘Making America Great Again’.

I am not for or against Trump or Biden. I just want Americans to get what they thought they were voting for.

#89 Kung Flu on 06.21.20 at 6:34 pm

“ Kung Flu” deliberately meant to incite a racially charged commentary but perhaps in this case , much less of a transgression than China’s lack of repentance, restitution or even admission of guilt for covid

Not the first virus they have unleashed on the world either and the costs to all are immense.

I give it a pass.

Voice of america

Earlier this week, documents obtained by the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University showed that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had issued a ban on responding to questions from former Fox News host Greta Van Susteren, now hosting a show for VOA, or anyone else with the government-backed news service. The CDC cited a White House memo for its policy — a remarkable instance of one government agency shutting out another’s requests for public information.

https://www.npr.org/2020/06/18/879873926/trumps-new-foreign-broadcasting-ceo-fires-news-chiefs-raising-fears-of-meddling

Critics fear Pack will jeopardize the independence of the broadcast networks, which are charged with objectively reporting about the U.S. and its foreign policy to an international audience of 350 million
people and in 61 languages.
https://thehill.com/policy/international/503676-trump-pick-to-lead-us-media-agency-under-fire-from-both-sides

This spring, lawmakers learned Pack was under investigation by the Washington, D.C., attorney general’s office over concerns he had improperly transferred millions of dollars from his not-for-profit outfit to his for-profit production company. That investigation has not been resolved.

A long election season in the US is like a long war. The side that wins usually has learned from their mistakes and made adjustments.

In 2016 Hillary never did, now we’ll see if Trump and team have it in them.

In the last couple years they invented a winning formula of giving away tickets via lottery to anyone who registered. The goal was to add as many names as possible to the data base. When he came to Minneapolis they got 140,000 names, packed the arena and had about 10,000 outside in the rain. The protesters were almost all aging white hippies, many protesting for Abortion, almost now immigrants protesting.

The other side learned well, hats off to them. Tech savvy, they spammed the site and got tickets for which they weren’t going to show up for. The whole data set is not useless. My guess, the big data team at trump 2020 recalibrates and starts charging $5-$10 next time.

Also, like a General fighting the last war, a re-election campaign is different from an insurgent election, and Trump needs to figure it out. No more droning on for 2hr. expecting people to stand outside in 35C heat listening. Make it focused and 20min. long.

The world is in the middle of a Marxist revolution now, and the decision for the US President will dictate much of the future direction of the world. China’s power and cultural/economic Marxism are the issues at stake, everything else is noise. China owns the Democrats and most establishment Republicans, and every other left wing western party. Will we all be like HK and the NBA?

The last election was decided by 50,000 white catholic women in PA,MI,WI who voted Obama twice and then Trump (NH,OH,MN also in play here). The Vatican is now all-in trying to flip them back. Can they fill them with enough white guilt to make them vote Dem? The Pope is praising bishops who “take the knee” to the false God of BLM.

Jews in LA who just had their neighbourhoods trashed by Farakhan’s goons must also be questioning their level of guilt, we’ll see which way they swing, but the revolution is not stopping. Does voting for BLM assuage your guilt?

Ignore the daily noise, the mood is volatile. Trump could easily take 40 states, or implode…. we’ll see.

First you wrote:

Then you inexplicably wrote:

“In fact, this was the largest mass gathering on the planet since the pandemic arrived”

Meanwhile, in the real world, the facts speak loudly:

Washington Times, June 20th

“Boom: $27.2M May haul for GOP, with Trump campaign raising more than $810M
Fundraising records continue to be challenged by Republicans, a firm sign that the GOP base is rallying behind President Trump as he steps back into campaign mode.”

Too early to write off His Orangeness, Garth. It’s almost a certainty that those who oppose him (the entire political, media, academic and cultural elite) will overplay their hand, and probably in the most awkward way possible to boot. Flyover Country has a genuine sense that they’re governed by people hawking moribund ideologies rather than real solutions to pressing problems, and who are deeply contemptuous of the lower orders. Orange is a symptom, not a cause.

I don’t think any reasonable, objective person could blame The Orange One for the virus or for the riots – these were all going to be problems no matter who was president, and point to the wider elite failures in the last 3 decades that led to the Orange Wave to begin with: a globalized but fragile world economy where shocks in one part propagates everywhere, and a failure of local governance represented by poor urban relations, among myriad other reasons. None of which could be painted orange.

Stylistically I’d never argue there’s nothing to be desired, to be sure. But for 5 years he’s taken the worst that the elite of the most powerful nation in human history have semi-legally been able to throw at him, and he’s still standing. His opponent is actually older than he is, and somehow carries more political baggage from the past than he himself does. No one expects Biden will be a competent president. With opponents like that, who needs the news networks, academics, and Hollywood?

Truly mis-handling of this pandemic in the US.

Wolf Richter just shorted the entire S&P500…2nd time in 6 months. Nailed it back in December and will nail it again.

This pandemic is turning into the biggest screw-up in history and chaos seen in the States is proof it is full on out of control. Wrap your mind around US reporting 30,000+ cases daily the past two days straight.

This isn’t even a second wave. They contained it temporarily, then everyone lost their mind and decided the hell with precautions.

I wonder if the exodus to the suburbs will continue now that pay will be based on postal code. People will now lose the “big city” wages they are used to when they move to small town nowhere that has a much lower cost of living/wages and benefits.
Not only that if your employer decides you are redundant and you get replaced in a smaller town will there be comparable jobs to acquire if you need to.
If ones skill set is very unique/niche finding the next job might be very difficult in that little town as they seem to hire people they “know” or who have the “in” through life long established contacts.
This will be well worth watching to see how it plays out.
I bet Bidens’ running mate will be Hillary Clinton, just after his election he will resign for health reasons and there will now be a twelve year Clinton Dynasty. She could run twice for POTUS as the first four will not count as she was elected as VP and was then annointed POTUS thus skirting the two term rules.

That was my thought at first also, however, I think Hillary would create almost as much division in the US as Trump if she were to be selected and then end up as President by default a few months later. At this point though, I wouldn’t count anything out, including Trump winning a 2nd term.

The tone of this daily message seems a little different from many of its predecessors. There seems to be a clear recognition from the moderator that this virus is not to be compared to the Flu (as indicated in the beginning of the pandemic when the number of Covid deaths was compared with the number of deaths by flu that go uncelebrated or recognized). I am glad that there is recognition that random unthoughtful opening up would have been very problematic. That being said, I do think that people need to be able to get back to work and make a living but to do so as safely as possible following intsructions and listening to public health people, who are informed by scientists. Am grateful we are living in Canada, and especially in BC where it was handled so very well overall by Bonnie, supported by the NDP.

I wonder if the exodus to the suburbs will continue now that pay will be based on postal code. People will now lose the “big city” wages they are used to when they move to small town nowhere that has a much lower cost of living/wages and benefits.

Hmm, since when is it any of their business where you live and what your lifestyle cost might be? Guess not having to pay for all that office space isn’t a big enough savings lol. Good talent will always get top dollar regardless of where they live.

Time to refresh our 5G portfolio. I just bought my annual 75 dozen canning lids. I do about 55 dozen fish in 250 mm jars. I use 500,750 & litre jars for “Garden”. Buy all your jars same mouth size.
Yes, we’re losing the culture war. Yes, our leader against political correctness is wounded. But a man’s gotta eat & there’s hard times a coming in the land of plenty.

Thank heavens for Fishman, who lives his every moment in a place called ‘Reality” and has a talent for putting things in perspective and living the authentic life. I would like nothing better than to sit along side him and learn how to preserve fruits and vegetables and forget the topic of what the outcome of US elections will be only a few short months.
At least two paid political trolls have attached themselves to this financial blog recently. Some of the discourse has become unpleasant. Personality has become more relevant than issues or policy. Not one person has mentioned the President’s announcement to withdraw 9500 troops from Germany. Long ago and far away such a decision contributed to an unpleasant consequence. There are monsters roaming the quiet countryside. Never forget that. The upside here is that we won’t have long to wait to put it all behind us. The haggling over who deserves POTUS, the impact on markets, or the debate on who sold out whom will end shortly.
The next four months will fly by. The idea of a road trip in the beautiful landscape of southern Alberta is looking more appealing each day. Time to focus on sky, horizon, nature leave the ‘brutes’ to their war games.

‘Jaguars can move between worlds because they are at home both in the trees and on the ground, and they hunt both day and night. The jaguar continues to be considered a symbol of royalty, intelligence, beauty, and strength.’ It has a nice ring. I like it.

I think people are making too much out of the Tulsa event. Given all that is going on, I think the most unlikely outcome would have been if things went off without a hitch.

Interesting spin that it was a TicTok movement to reserve all the tickets and then not show up. That won’t happen again it’ll be first come first serve next time.

But still, let’s be reasonable. 10,000 people during a pandemic is a number to think about. Hilary and Biden couldn’t do that with no pandemic.

Things are very hard to predict, especially the future.

This election was never about Trump vs. Biden. It was always Trump vs. not Trump. Trump unfortunately has to gamble big here that by November covid will be on the decline and the economy will be on the rise. If so, he’ll win. If not, he’ll lose. It isn’t really in his control anymore.

The most important data point we don’t have is who will be Biden’s VP pick, because the chances that Biden serves 4 years before he goes senile looks extremely low. He is merely a vessel to carry his VP pick to power.

Joe Biden is unelectable, mainly for health reasons, but also for his hideous track record. Hillary was a far less flawed candidate than Sleepy Joe and she lost, bigly. Face facts; once Kamala Harris is the VP pick Joe Biden will “develop” health problems and bow out, leaving Kamala as the nominee.

I’m not sure who will vote to continue the far left’s delusional tantrums, but I don’t think it’ll be any of the adults. And by adults I include the Mills who want more out of life than living in their Mom’s basement.

The party will be over when the adults show up to vote. The kids will be hung-over and weed infused and ignore voting. The Democratic strategy of focusing on the least likely to vote group will be an epic failure.

I find it interesting that the Mob is now coming for Stanford, Harvard, Princeton and Yale. I’m sure that they all felt immune because they were leading the SJW charge.

Spot on Garth! Trump shows his stupidity by saying he slows down testing so numbers are not so big. Really? So what rationale is that? Do not test and let the ones who have Covid not get tested so they can spread it more? Does he not know that it is not the test that gives someone the Covid? Now if people think that makes sense then Trump is your guy for sure because they are just as stupid as he is.

#125 BS on 06.22.20 at 12:31 am

Whatever your leaning – right or left, con or lib, GOP or Dem – facts are facts. Trump narrows his base of support daily in mishandling these pivotal challenges.

Trump becomes more popular as the left turns more radical. Independents don’t vote for higher taxes, riots, open borders and defunding the police.

The rallys are all about TV and online viewers and the endless news coverage. Even this blog is discussing it all weekend.

TV ratings were through the roof at 5 million in addition to that there were 4 million unique online viewers. What percent of voters is 9 million? That does include those that just see the clips and watch it on the news channels. Huge success. Trump got what he wanted.

In contrast Biden’s last event had 20 people and a few hundred online views and no live TV coverage. Not even covered by this blog.

Fox News Channel dominated last night’s special coverage of President Donald Trump’s launch of his 2020 re-election campaign, drawing nearly five million total viewers and nearly one million in the 25-54 demo, according to Nielsen Media Research.

Tax Avoidance

In her book Dark Money, Jane Mayer writes that Anschutz, a major funder of the right-wing movement,

“had attempted to avoid paying capital gains taxes in a 2000-2001 transaction by using what are called prepaid variable forward contracts. These contracts allow wealthy shareholders such as Anschutz, whose fortune Forbes estimated at $11.8 billion as of 2015, to promise to give shares to investment firms at a later date, in exchange for cash up front. Because the stock does not immediately change hands, capital gains taxes are not paid. According to The New York Times, Anschutz raised $375 million in 2000-2001 by promising shares in his oil and natural gas companies through the firm Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette.”[5]

Kamala Harris has so much baggage that it takes a train car to haul it all around. It’s sad that her primary attributes are her race and gender, two things that old school liberals would have told us to ignore.

Harris’s track record is appalling. She’s jailed a huge number of blacks and then joked that she’s done the same things that they’ve done but wasn’t stupid enought to get caught.

When Trump starts unwrapping the wagon train load of baggae that Kamala has he’ll be like a kid ripping through presents on Festivus morning.

And she’s still the best that the Dems have to offer. Sad. So sad.

Deferred payments during this period COVID-19 won’t affect your credit rating. All that you mentioned a few posts back was not up to standards
———————————
https://www.theglobeandmail.com/business/commentary/article-defer-payment-during-the-crisis-stay-vigilant/

If you’re among the hundreds of thousands of Canadians who were granted a payment holiday for mortgages, credit cards or other loans in recent months, do yourself a favour and double-check your credit report.

The COVID-19 crisis is exposing flaws in the information-technology systems used by some financial institutions and other lenders. Deferred payments shouldn’t hurt a person’s credit standing. But many companies are discovering their aging computer systems can’t automatically record and relay details about those special payment arrangements to the two major credit bureaus.

Although Equifax and TransUnion have reporting standards for deferred payments and created workarounds for companies that are unable to tweak their own systems, some of those fixes are manual and there are still plenty of opportunities for information to fall through the cracks.

Deferral is a bad idea. Even if credit bureaus do not record deferred payments (they will), lenders sure take note. Do not defer unless you have zero alternatives. – Garth

Multi billionaire, Michael Bloomberg, openly bragged live on TV during the Democratic debates of how he bought the Democrats the House majority for them in 2018 (he threw 100 million $$ into key House races). What do you think is going on behind the scenes right now?

Democrats are socialists with a hard turn left towards Maoism. They are the party of BIG money and media control. And they’re going to use this to get the most important thing that matters to them – BOTH the House and the Senate.

Do they even want the presidency? This could explain why they’re running Biden. With complete Congressional control they can simply cripple Trump if he wins. Executive orders? The courts take care of that.

Just imagine the orgy of vitriol, lawsuits, investigations and impeachments. Gotta throw their media buddies a bone. Keep their ratings up. If you thought the last 4 years was bad…

Do you honestly think that the Democrats want to further expose their policies by winning the presidency? The Green New Deal, higher taxes, social justice, health care for non-citizens, defunding of the police etc etc.

Or would they rather have a totally impotent Trump in office again to use as their political foil and their excuse for ramping up more ‘resistance’ chaos and destruction? You decide.

Behind closed doors – where the deals are made, the spoils divvied out and the latest graft cooked up – the old guard from both parties work together as a team. And what a horrifyingly corrupt and ossified brain-trust the old guard is. Morally and spiritually bankrupt. The American Politburo.

What a sad state we’re in, when so many fervently believe so much crap. – Garth

Look at the signs as Communism is being rolled out globally:

1. Lineups Lineups Lineups – per government capacity limits in stores, restaurants.
2. Quotas – product limits with signs in-store
3. Hiring quotas.

Income Equality? Flip what our elites tell us backwards. More like Inequality – tax slaves not allowed to run their business per government edits. UBI or a Maximum Wage of $15/hr awaits. The mega corps and our tech overloads are profiting grandly from their Plandemic.

4. Nationalization of property is underway. Crippling property tax hikes. Removal of landlord rights at commercial, residential level.

5. WW3 unleashed in our streets. All cities have plain- clothes armies tearing down statues and defacing property and occupying land/zones. After all war is about land.
The Crown Bankers are using the Crown Virus to take Crown Land away from us

5. All cultural events are banned by government – to seperate us and keep us apart.

6. Covid Communist Protocols will continue worldwide until more of the New System is rolled out.

Remember, Distancing is combat term. This is war.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distancing

“Distancing is the appropriate selection of distance between oneself and a combatant throughout an encounter. Distancing is significant in an altercation as it determines both attack and defence options for all parties involved.[1] Timing and tactics are also important elements of combat which are often used in conjunction with distancing by experienced martial artists.[2]

Distancing is an important concept in all combative sports and arts. It applies to both un-armed and armed combat. In a martial sense, armed combat takes the form of traditional weapons practice”

A Canadian Press dispatch to The Globe says that around 500 military members and their associated equipment were gathered at Canadian Forces Base Borden north of Toronto in early April to support the federal government’s response to COVID-19 as the pandemic spread across the country. Many of those troops ended up being deployed to seven long-term care homes in the GTA hit hard by COVID-19”

John Bolton on Trump:

Bolton depicted Trump as an “erratic and impulsive” leader who cares only about his own needs, does not fully understand democracy or the Constitution, is played “like a fiddle” by Russia and is not “fit for office.”

“The concern I have, speaking as a conservative Republican, is that once the election is over, if the president wins, the political constraint is gone,” Bolton told Martha Raddatz of ABC News in his first television interview publicizing his memoir of 17 months as Trump’s top security adviser. “And because he has no philosophical grounding, there’s no telling what will happen in a second term.”

Makes you wonder whether anyone in the USA is listening anymore.

This is coming from Trump’s own top adviser.

This guy knows the POTUS very well.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The question you should ask the media is whether they are wearing HANS anti-whiplash devices when they publish stories on Bolton.

They change direction at break-neck speed to try to find something bad to say about Trump and get a few extra clicks.

Journalism is dead. All we have now is a bunch of click addicted opiners trying to find a new follower who is lower information than they are so they can stay employed.

I doubt that they believe much of anything that they write at all. It would slow things down if they did.

It really doesn’t matter what Canadians think about American elections. The whole world is picking things a part like vultures or censoring what is not there narrative. “Trump is crazy” “Biden is senile” One of them is going to be THEIR President.

I hope they open the Canada – U.S. border soon.
————————————–

Not me! That border can stay closed for a long while yet as far as I’m concerned.

The pandemic is being fabulously well handled here in BC with a fair slice of credit going to our chief medical officer Bonny Henry. I’m not an NDP supporter but I must say John Horgan has had the good sense to step aside and let Dr. Henry do her job.

Meanwhile, just 50 km to the south, Washington State is a basket case. They are in terrible shape. I can’t say exactly why but suspect political meddling and a general American disinclination to follow rules.

And until they do, I’m just fine with the border closure.

The socialist republic of Canada should be more worried about its future with pseudo-entrepreneurs like sailedaway [sic] on cerb-cation

————–

Yes, sailed, I am a huge problem for this country. Let’s examine. Here’s my story:

1. Immigrated here as a skilled worker
2. Started engineering corporation
3. Employed dozens of Canadians for years and years
4. Purchased home, second house in Vancouver, built office building
5. Served and continue to serve on advisory committees, community boards, and volunteer positions
6. Contributed significant cash through the firm and privately to the community

…and, here’s the big one:

7. Accepted corporate stimulus expressly earmarked for the purpose of keeping employees at work, and by doing so kept 5 staff employed we would otherwise have dismissed.

Yep, I’m the problem here. If you were running this country, you could get rid of leeches like me. Fool.

What a sad state we’re in, when so many fervently believe so much crap. – Garth

***********************

I think the crap most people believe is that today’s politicians will actually do something that benefits them and their country. Look at Canada’s crumbling infrastructure, health care and enormous debt (even prior to the virus).

What happened to the agenda the American people voted for – infrastructure, health care reform, immigration reform? The Republicans did control both the House and Senate for the first 2 years of T’s presidency. 3 years of Russia collusion garbage was a pretty poor substitute.

The people are held in contempt by the politicians and the media. We’ve become nothing more than a means to their own end. Why else would they run two barely intelligible candidates for president? This is in-your-face contempt.

We’re beyond a sad state. Anything goes and nothing matters.

Elections are won with lies and money to the benefit of the political class and their cronies, while the people they pretend to care about are left circling the drain – especially the youth. I surely don’t blame the Millies for their anger at the mess they’re about to inherit.

While the appearance of COVID 19 isn’t Trump’s fault, the way Trump and the Repliclowns handled it, very poorly at that, allowed it to spread like it has so far. Even now, he makes the problem even worse by asking officials to “slow down testing’ for the virus because too many new cases were being discovered.

So, why is Joe Biden keeping quiet while all this is happening? Most likely he’s wisely taking the advice of Napoleon, who said you should never interfere with the enemy when they are making a big mistake.

So the Dems got a bunch of teenagers to basically steal tickets, hhhmm? Think bout that…they’re so scared of Trump they resort to basically lying and cheating to disrupt a rally.

You can see why the Dems want mail in ballots….

Well half a million folks watch the rally online…so there’s that.
…………………………………………………………
Ya you is right right that’s no way to disrupt a rally or gathering. Should have called out the homeland security forces, police and national guard and then gassed them bums. Man they are sure coming out of the woodwork in the comment section today!

Trump barely won in 2016. My prediction just based on observation is that he will suffer one of the most stinging defeats in American history. Slaughter.

The non-white vote and the zoomers coming to voting age will determine this one. His base is just not that big and is shrinking.

The real fascination for me is will he go down in flames led by his ego, or will he bail beforehand citing the libs have rigged the election so he cannot win?

-That’s called perspective.

You can view the world cynically, and assume that two minute YouTube video you posted symbolizes a diabolical plan to inflict pain.

Or,

You can try to view it positively. Evidence our leaders are striving to fix some of the problems facing human society today.

Either one is a function of your perspective, and perspective is always coloured by personal bias and emotions.

Recognize it.

Realize you have as little of an idea of what’s going on as the rest of us do. Recognize most people are just trying to survive and make it regardless of the situation and don’t need your cynical, paranoid, and unhealthy worldview shoved in their faces all day.
