Hark

To the blog dogs, spayed, neutered or whole. To the Mills and mouldy basement dwellers. To the whiners, critics and shop stewards in the steerage section. To the Lay-Z-Boy macroeconomists who know everything and the ingenues who stumble in to learn. To the bigots, the prejudiced and the lame who come to fight me. To the poor Costco shoppers and Kia divers, realtors in leased Audis and babes on Harleys. To the doubters, the disciples and the dipsticks. To the wrinklies, curmudgeons and fading Boomers responsible for all ill. To the commies, taxers and 1%-baiters. May you be saved. To the Bitcoiners, cryptos, bullion-lickers, doomers and deplorables. To the house-horny, the epic-in-debt and the FOMOs. To the Bank of Moms, the mortgaged, the entitled and the moisters. To the balanced, the cheap, the DIYers and the brain-dead GICers. To those who post comments and the 99% who know better. To every beloved dog owner and misguided cat hostage…

Merry Christmas. Seriously.

Let’s all go easy on that (hopefully spiked) egg nog and those few relatives who always seem to want to pick a fight for some reason or other this time of year. Peace to all … Cheers!

Yes good list of people following your words of wisdom from your blog.
We had mostly good intentions.

Definitely the Garth team has more accurate and clearer knowledge of this very entangled field you write about.
Thanks for your lessons…even those which show some slant….we all have a slant.
Basically overall quit balanced.

We just need the courage and belief in our basic human values to put up with some of the entrenched points of view from the “loyalists “….in sometimes a very dividing spirit.
2017 will definitely be remembered as a year of extreme points of view.
The divisive messages that flowed like hot lava from the “White House Party ” did not help.
Hopefully most of us would now be tired of extremism…one year is too long a time and not good for our individual health or for our Country.

Let’s dig deeper into our family roots….for some back to the first wave of pioneers who left a place of sufferance and remember honestly that this country is based of “waves of pioneers “…for different times…trying to improve the lives of future generations.
Our history is not full of only good stories and facts.

Peace to all.

Thank you Garth and your love…for supporting you in your daily effort to enlighten us and give us the opportunity to give our opinion.
Let’s keep democracy active between elections.

#26 For those about to flop... on 12.24.17 at 4:21 pm

Around this day last year the boss of this blog confirmed my worst fears that my best blog buddy had passed away.

Up until then I had tried to contribute to the daily conversation but in the wake of this news and my lack of mobility at the time(spent three months crawling around the house) I swore I would find a way to make a bigger difference on this blog.

After learning of Booms passing ,I was a mess with a mixture of loss and sadness for his family and guilt from trying to concentrate on my own health and respect his privacy although I had a bad feeling that would not leave.

A couple of weeks later after the fog cleared and I stopped punishing myself by re-reading Garth’s tribute post and had time to gather my thoughts I wrote my first Pink Snow Post.

The reviews mixed, I seemingly brightened a few people’s days and burned the eyeholes of others.

I noticed a trend early on that renters who hoped one day to become owners cheered me on and nervous home owners unleashed some fury in my direction.

The information provided was meant to be take it or leave it,not expecting everyone on the blog to be interested as it addressed a situation only affecting a small percentage of the people on here, although I did write a couple of posts telling anyone thinking about speculating in the GTA in 2017 to pay reasonable attention to what is possible, especially for the younger crew.

Not really sure how many posts I wrote this year ,I guess someone will have to put up the Blowhard Billboard again showing how many posts people wrote on here.

I guess I am in the top 5 of offenders on here and I mean well and do not wish to darken anyone’s day.

I can write obviously, but I am not the best writer.I try to inject a bit of my personality into the posts but it always comes back to the numbers.

I saw something happening in my neighborhood and then decided to investigate to see how widespread things had gotten.

I saw something and decided to say something.

Apart from hanging out on this b-grade blog I have morals.

To everyone that helped me out this year, thanks once again.Im looking forward to seeing what we can do together in 2018.

We only made a small difference to a small amount of people but an effort was made.

To all the people that write original content or pass on links to something that they think someone on the blog might benefit from ….Well done.

To all the people that come here daily to argue and snipe at someone who had an original thought that the tried to convey , I say to them ,look deep down inside and you will find your true reason to belonging on this blog.

It took a tragedy, but I found mine..

#44 NEVER GIVE UP on 12.24.17 at 5:24 pm

J. Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon. (Good Value) Loosening my tongue as I await the arrival of family and friends for Christmas Eve.

When I was 11 years old I took 2 city buses to get to school. Of course in Edmonton at the time in the winter there were 6 foot high snow drifts to climb and the major road where the bus stop was, was the second street over.

Rather than wait on the cold bus stop early at 8:00 am, I learned to cut it close to the real bus arrival time.
I was late a lot of times and chased the bus and banged on the side of it to get the driver to stop.

I learned something from that, that carried me through my whole life. No matter how hopeless catching the bus was, I still tried and really amazed myself at how many times I managed to get the bus when most anyone else would have deemed it hopeless from a block away and not try at all.

I have many more astonishing bus chases and other types of chases from women and jobs and money that still astound me to this day. All I did was “NEVER GIVE UP”!

I had some bad luck and real true honest to goodness tragedy in my life that left me a single dad with no money and five little kids in 1999.

I have 7 now and a thriving business and a daughter doing her PHD at Harvard. Lots of kids winning some not so much but the games not over and we Never Give Up around here.

If you are going through tough times, No matter how bad things are, remember that it will pass and even though today may seem like a good day to end it all, just keep on trying and Never Give Up. It is amazing what will happen to you!

Merry Christmas from the bottom of my Heart!
And as for your Sir Garth… You have a heart of Gold!

#60 Tis no other - perfection on 12.24.17 at 6:40 pm

It was christmas eve babe
In the drunk tank
An old man said to me: won’t see another one
And then they sang a song
The rare old mountain dew
I turned my face away and dreamed about you
Got on a lucky one
Came in eighteen to one
I’ve got a feeling
This year’s for me and you
So happy christmas
I love you baby
I can see a better time
Where all our dreams come true.

They got cars big as bars
They got rivers of gold
But the wind goes right through you
It’s no place for the old
When you first took my hand on a cold christmas eve
You promised me broadway was waiting for me
You were handsome you were pretty
Queen of new york city when the band finished playing they yelled out for more
Sinatra was swinging all the drunks they were singing
We kissed on a corner
Then danced through the night.

And the boys from the nypd choir were singing Galway Bay
And the bells were ringing out for christmas day.

You’re a bum you’re a punk
You’re an old s*** on junk
Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed
You scumbag you maggot
You cheap lousy faggot
Happy christmas your arse I pray god it’s our last.

And the boys of the nypd choir’s still singing Galway Bay
And the bells were ringing out
For christmas day.

I could have been someone
Well so could anyone
You took my dreams from me
When I first found you
I kept them with me babe
I put them with my own
Can’t make it out alone
I’ve built my dreams around you

And the boys of the nypd choir’s still singing Galway Bay
And the bells are ringing out
For christmas day.

#76 Trumps gift to hummanity !! on 12.24.17 at 7:35 pm

I saw this and decided that it was so true its worth a read and might make you scratch your head !!

Hey Prez Donald! It’s Aaron here. I don’t usually do this, but I just wanted to send you a note, thanking you for making my iPhone cheaper! Your new tax bill is brilliant! While some in the “fake news” might be complaining about the “bad” side effects – I think you’re a genius!

So what that we’ll need to borrow $1,000,000,000,000 dollars from the Chinese to fund the plan (hey, Big D, did you know that $1 trillion has 12 zeros? I didn’t – I had to look it up!).

So what that we’ll then pay the Chinese $750,000,000,000 in interest (I had to look this up too – a $1tn 30–year treasury bond at 2.5% is $25bn in interest per year x 30 years = $750bn).

So what that the Chinese will then use our $750n to build military bases in the South China Sea, thus endangering American sailors and soldiers, it’s a small price to pay, right??

And so what that we’ll then give the biggest bag of Chinese tax cash, $47,000,000,000, to Apple Inc, the “Jesse James” of corporate tax dodgers! (btw Prez, did you know that Apple is already hiding $250bn in cash overseas to avoid US taxes? I didn’t, I had to look it up!)

But on the sunny side, Apple will use that unneeded cash windfall to create new American jobs, right?? Well, probably not. Apple will use it to build a new factory in China, and build me a cheaper iPhone.

So let’s sum this up: You’re borrowing $1 trillion from the Chinese, pay them $75bn (of our children’s future), which they’ll use to build military bases designed to endanger our soldiers – so that we can give Apple $47bn in cash, that they don’t need, so that Apple can build new Chinese factories, so that I can get a cheaper iPhone?

Did I get that right?? Thanks Prez – you the man!

On a serious note: to my fellow paratroopers and combat veterans: Donald Trump, who most of you voted for, just screwed your kids and endangered our fellow paratroopers. Please keep that in mind the next time you vote.

Do you guys realize that you’re slowly helping to reverse debt-embracing mind control force-fed to the masses over minimum 12 years in the government indoctrination camps? At least they have a two week Christmas break. Hope the peons discover Greater Fool instead of more CBC approved programming.

And might I add….to all the gutless politicians and corporations who push “happy holidays”, “seasons greetings” or some other bland linguistic monstrosity in some misguided attempt to accommodate nonexistent, phantom aggrieved offended ones – Merry Christmas.

“So what that the Chinese will then use our $750n to build military bases in the South China Sea, thus endangering American sailors and soldiers, it’s a small price to pay, right??”

And when USA builds military bases in Philippines and Afghanistan, Japan and Iraq.. it is merely peacekeeping right?

It is because of thinking like yours that the dying idea of the USA as a hegemonic empire keeps persisting.

You are going to wake up one day and realize that the model of economic/military dominance by USA has come to an end and the rest of the world nations have agreed to a model of cooperation and peaceful development/trade for the benefit of all.

Merry Christmas and peace to all men of goodwill.

Merry Christmas Garth and doggies both real and blog-based. For the part paid by government – full reimbursement by T2.

He/the financial minister is asking after all employees to report and pay taxes on free lunches provided by their employers as taxable benefits.

There is a reason the governments of those countries you mentioned allow US military bases on their land.

More on ” The China Hustle ”

http://variety.com/2017/film/reviews/the-china-hustle-film-review-1202553451/

QUOTE:

With Gibney, Frank Marshall, and the 2929 Entertainment team of Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner on board, “The China Hustle” is assured a theatrical push and a long life on streaming, but its up-to-the-minute reporting could land a few headlines, too. Far from a postmortem, the film uncovers a scandal that’s still ongoing, with parties on one side bullish about promoting Chinese stocks and parties on the other looking for empty stocks to short. And as with the widespread malpractice that torpedoed the housing market in 2008, there are no rules or incentives for investment banks and brokers to stop perpetuating shady deals, so long as the commissions keep rolling in.

MORE REVIEWS
Film Review: ‘Kaleidoscope’
TV Review: ‘Black Mirror’ Season 4 on Netflix
“There are no good guys in this story, including me,” says Dan David, the charismatic whistle-blower who serves as the film’s prevailing voice and de facto tour guide. Working at a tiny investment firm in small-town Pennsylvania, David and his brother took a massive hit in the 2008 collapse, but resolved to stay in business and figure out creative ways to earn back their clients’ investment dollars. What they discovered was something called a “reverse merger”: Because Chinese companies couldn’t be traded directly in U.S. stock exchanges, hundreds of them were “merging” with American shell companies that still had a presence on the New York Stock Exchange or other trading floors. In theory, American investors could then seize on the opportunity to profit from the gains of an ascendant economy.

In practice, however, many of these companies were reporting assets and revenues that were way out of line with their actual value — and without any auditing firms on the level, there’s no one to call them on it. Through creative acts of surveillance, like offering free tea samples to employees at a Chinese factory to determine how many workers it actually had, David and others were able to sniff out the fraud and make money by shorting the stocks once an investigation suggested a much different story than the goosed-up numbers were telling. But the opacity of the bookkeeping is hard to penetrate, then and now, and “The China Hustle” effectively sounds the alarm.

Rothstein delves into the Wild West corporate culture of China-friendly firms like Roth Capital Partners, which woos investors through booze-soaked three-day extravaganzas with appearances by musicians like Snoop Dogg and Billy Idol, or Rodman & Renshaw, which employed Wesley Clark, a retired general and former Democratic presidential candidate, as its chairman. (Amazingly, Clark agreed to appear in this documentary, which flatters him not a bit.) Rothstein also explains, in plain language and graphics, how reverse mergers work, because it’s never easy for ordinary citizens to understand financial machinations deliberately designed to confuse them. “

You made another snipe about the deplorable comment section:

“To those who post comments and the 99% who know better.”

So 1% or less of your traffic (the other 99% is probably all bots and search engines) goes through to the comments. One statistic you’ve never given is what percent of your traffic goes through to read the comments but doesn’t post.

So that’s the stat I’d like to see, clicks to the blog versus clicks to the comments. You have a very lively comments section so I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets a fair number of clicks even if most don’t post.

-$14 eh? What has been my prediction for this new $15 min wage in Ontariowe? Take everything our elites say and flip it 180 deg to make sense: $15 will be the MAXIMUM wage under globalism. I understand that the car assembly plants in Southern USA start at this wage too. $15.

I hate to be barer of bad news in this festive time i have to tell you guys what that “enginier” sad “They can get the came parts made in Germany, with better quality” is not true, that “enginier” dude is goof, put that on a fridge right beside mine picture.

When it comes to flying machines manufacturing tolerances and quality control for its parts are are so stringent that there is no deviation in parts quality and dimension (+/- tolerances) regardles where parts are made.

Is lead time and turnover faster in Germany than is US, probably and that might eventualy equate to “lower cost of labour”, is but quality and dimensions are same.

and just on side note, when tylenols c5 wings would grew at lest 2cm out with each 20`C increase of temperature, and just to compare to Concord, hole airplane would expand/stretch and gain extra foot in length while is flying supersonic. there is no variations in tolerances and quality between of those rivits holding shell and frame together, they all came from same batch of aluminum.

Also, from the article : “When houses were starting to go up 20 per cent each year, I was worried about my kids’ futures,” says Ms. Johnson, a global bid manager and proposal writer.”

WTF is a “global bid manager and proposal writer”?? A fancy title for someone who input info for RFPs into an established legal template form?

Pokin holes in ya thesis like Lucio Fontana canvases…

“1 In 10 New Toronto Condos Are Owned By Non-Residents: More than 1 in 10 recently completed condos in Toronto are held by non-residents. Non-residents, for those that don’t know, are people that declare their primary home in another country. Isolating condo apartments constructed between 2016 and 2017, we find that non-residents own 11.32% in the Toronto Census Metropolitan Area (CMA). In the City of Toronto, that rate of non-resident ownership is just a teensy bit higher at 11.65%. Remember, these are just the non-residents that kept the assignment through completion. It also excludes any resident speculators, which are by no means scarce.”

So yeah. You be trippin, white boy. Dem beavers own 90%, an’ da leavers own 10%. Gitcha numbas straight.

boxing day reality check:

“While we expect these new qualifying rules to slow home sales, home prices may not be affected as a result of low existing supply in the market,” the BCREA notes in its forecast.

???

“Mr. Lamb says he recently bought his five-year-old a condo. “It’s 800 square feet – I paid around $450,000,” he says. “When she’s 20 in 15 years, that will probably be worth $3-million.”

The federal government will work with provinces and territories to develop a $4 billion Canada Housing Benefit to be launched in 2020 to respond to local housing needs and priorities. This will be a significant new tool to address challenges of housing affordability in communities across the country. It will provide an estimated average of $2,500 per year to each household recipient, assisting at least 300,000 families when fully implemented. The benefit be delivered directly to households as a portable benefit they can use to help with the costs of housing.’

Shared Services:

James Bagnall: we’re approaching the second anniversary of the rollout of the federal government’s Phoenix Pay system — with no fix in sight.

http://ottawacitizen.com/news/politics/the-other-side-of-phoenix-public-servants-who-were-overpaid-are-also-hurting

The old payroll system wasn’t perfect but it was accepted. I received a promotion and moved from Statistics Canada to Agriculture Canada. For one year I was paid from the Statistics Canada pay office.

Phoenix is a product of the need of the senior civil service to centralize . Administrative darwinism. True believers. Phoenix is a part of Shared Services which is the vision of the senior civil service to centralize all Information Technology in the Federal Government. It’s costing $1.4 billion a year. It has demoralized the IT divisions within each department, it was supposed to save money but it hasn’t saved a dime.

We’ve talked about the Federal Government’s efforts to find new tax revenue. The other side of the coin is how it spends money. Shared Services needs to be disbanded but there would be no short term savings – costs are built in – there are long term contracts with private firms. Senior civil servants would resign – with generous buy-outs and pensions.

#172 Howard..re: ” The China Hustle ”

Premise implies that the ponzi schemes that unfortunately inherently exist in any given economy simply folded their tent in 2008 global collapse and found greener pastures in China.

China is no economic miracle…it is simply Trotsky-style communism.(aka conquer nations economically and via betrayal from within ). It has a huge work force capable of creating and manipulating its own economic climate and subsequent global economy.

China is notorious for corruption and lack of transparency, but the cracks are showing.

The tag team of Bill Clinton and Sam “WalMart” Walton both from Arkansas, did many deals with China..many of Clintons’ were outright treason.

It’s very difficult, I’ve got a tin foil hate on now. Soon I’m going to be licking bullion and buying bitcoin. My brain has been telling me to find a realtor.

Merry Christmas. Seriously.

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center operated “SPLC Hate Tracker” the message of this post “Merry Christmas” is hate speech.

“Canadians lack confidence”

You’re right on the money with this one Garth !!! That’s the perfect way to sum up what’s going on in Canadians heads. They’re afraid, distracted and aggravated. They don’t get it and they are not progressing.
