I was wrong. The stock market, too. The bond market messed up. So did the forex. As the US presidential slugfest unfolded it became evident there was Brexit in the air. By 9 pm ET Tuesday night traders and specuvestors – who’d gambled widely in the last two days that Donald was pooched – scrambled to unwind their positions and staunch their losses.
The Mexican peso croaked, since the Trumpinator would tear up NAFTA, slap tariffs on imports and build a honking big wall. Wall Street recoiled with futures shedding over 3% (that was 700 points on the Dow by 11 pm), because a President Trump would mean uncertainty, volatility and a good chance for political chaos. The Canadian dollar swooned along with oil, which shed 3% of its value in a couple of hours. Asian markets sank, setting the stage for Europe. Meanwhile gold rose above $1,300 an ounce again, and bond prices soared as yields plunged.
So, Brexit II. As I said in the last post, you’d think those who try to time the markets would learn. They can score on a good gamble. They can also have their asses handed to them on a night like this. And it’s all based on guesses. Or in the case of politics, pollsters that voters enjoy lying to.
There are three messages I should pass along. One of them involves humility, which makes it, ah, difficult.
First, ignore your investments on Wednesday. Markets will gyrate for hours, days or a few weeks. Not because the election of a goofy billionaire or a mistrusted hack means the end of life as we know it, but because of all those investment bets I just mentioned. Never buy into a boom nor sell into a storm. If you have a balanced portfolio then your bonds will soar as your stocks tank, mitigating the impact. That’s by design. It’s why you need fixed income.
Second, as stated here often, both Trump and Clinton are flawed characters. Neither deserved to be a president. As also pointed out, this (like Brexit) was parochialism vs globalism, protectionism vs free trade, walls vs immigration and the ascendancy of patriotism plus revenge against elites. Let’s hope the new POTUS fully understands this election wasn’t actually about them. This stuff won’t go away.
Finally, like the majority of souls who come here (witness the weekend poll), a Trump surge was not on my radar.
I found it impossible to believe tens of millions of people would fall for political policies articulated in tweets and hastags, from a guy who brags about not paying taxes, admits to being a groper and promotes racial and religious intolerance. Trump has made outsiders feel like insiders because he legitimizes human prejudice and mainstreams bigotry. He became a powerful leader by being a meticulous follower. I did not think this was possible. I underestimated him. I overestimated humanity.

nothing to do with trump.
people voted against the system and hillary is the system personified.
No… you overestimated Americans. Much of humanity thought like you and I. The southern “neighbours” had different ideas.
not over yet…
Garth, what do you think will happen to our exports to the US, if Trump gets in?
Bit early to call it that definitively.
Trump wins Florida. Clinton wins California.
Wow… I’m shocked… The next few weeks are going to be interesting… A President trump also may very well be looking at a House and Senate controlled buy the GoP…
I look forward watching T2 build a bromance with the Trumpinator…
Strange days indeed.
Smoking man called it!!!! Way to go smoky. Herdenomics 101
What a sad day
I don’t know what to say. Obama says the sun with still rise tomorrow. And this too shall pass. Hopefully, if Trump wins, the reality of actually being president will make him more presidential. And hopefully he won’t actually give Uday and Qusay positions of responsibility.
Called it yesterday….told Blogdogs not to beleive the biased MSN polls……
The MSN waited until CA closed before calling Florida…..anything to delay the inevitable.
Garth, you have to admit that the democracies always make rational choices, same as the markets.

RE: Garth’s last paragraph:
I think you underestimated the general hatred and lack of trust of Clinton; a woman who seemed to think it was her divine right to the Presidency against a backdrop of corruption and a lifetime of political chicanery. Rather like her #1 BFF here in Ontario, currently “enjoying” rock-bottom approval ratings.
Anyway, I digress. I’ll be ignoring the numbers tomorrow and see this for what it is, a buying opportunity. Just like with Brexit, recovery will happen once uncertainty dies down.
Smoking Man called it. I believed. Change is coming. Enough said.

Lol, the BBC just reported that Canada’s immigration website has crashed.
>what do you think will happen to our exports to the US, if Trump gets in?
Well exports of Uranium and Gold to the rest of the world will go up.
People, can’t you see. This is not so much about Trump, but his ideology. He gives hope to the common man that maybe prosperity will return. Keep manufacturing here, keep the car industry here. Make union wages equivalent to inflation re: 40 years ago. Let nationalism rise again. Not to mention immigration. Whether he comes through or not is another story, but for one night the common man and woman have hope back in their lives.
at least the american will never show his ugly face here again!

I said it 4 weeks ago, the Donald seems to be pretty resilient don’t be surprised if pulls it out. From what I remember your post said no chance, and the blog dogs were in agreement. The only thing is I didn’t want him to win.
No rate hike?
I expect lots of wealth to move up to Canada. This is our Country’s chance to have a mini renaissance. Show the World etc.
Angry white people called this election. End of story. America is set back 60 years by this outcome.
Garth, stop being too harsh on yourself. It was bound to happen, Trump or no Trump, vote or no vote. The piling up of impossible to keep promises is bound to fail at some point. Don’t get caught in the fray. All that goes up must come down. You posted the bubble chart yourself a couple of blogs ago, it is never different, for anything or anyone. The pin, it is irrelevant.

Mr. T you are human…..BUT sitting on a comfortable net worth thru hard work, brains you may not know the sense of desperation on main street…here or in the USA…The markets look great but at street level jobs are hard to find and many are struggling BIG TIME and very, very afraid with little or no HOPE.
The displaced have spoken…for an idiot yes but someone they thought better than the status quo.
Good. As voted.
This, as was Brexit, is about control of your country. It is about rule of law. Either all follow it or it eventually falls apart. It is about legitimacy.
The Dems failed to realize this. The Republicans *might* have recognized this. Elites in both parties are about to get a whooping from the people they claim to “represent”*.
Trudeau, Wynne, both Liberal parties, you have been warned. Mainstream media propaganda machines as well.
*represent- what politicians claim to do while stealing from your picket, and lying to your face
Just speechless. The next four years will be strange indeed.
pocket…not picket
Well… Gov Canada’s Immigration website went down tonight. Perhaps the unprepared spike of traffic.
Looks like the people who called it all wrong are going to blame it on how stupid and deplorable ‘humanity’ is.
I would suggest you might ant to check your assumptions and maybe not take the mainstream media at their word from now on.
A little healthy skepticism and an open mind will go a long way to helping your predictive capabilities and your financial situation.
Denial of reality is not a good strategy in general.
You admitted it like a man.
I think the US election was mostly “Status Quo” Clinton 2.0 vs. “We Want Change!” Trump.
What happens if it’s dead tie (which is looking possible)? I think the house decides and there will probably be a democrat majority.
Am I missing something? I’m watching CNN coverage and as far as I can see, it’s not over yet? Sure, it doesn’t look good for Clinton, but calling it the OTHER way before it’s officially over seems a bit premature to me!
I still thought that trump still might have a change even after the article All Good.
Actually, scheduled some purchase at 3 to 10% below current price (for some at 52 weeks low). I am just starting to invest ….
I am hearing that the Canadian immigration website has crashed. It begins.

Trump will reach out and bring in democrats rather than just rely on re-tread republicans to build his transition team. Everything about the guy is unexpected. Unless you read Sun Tzu of course.
“from a guy who brags about not paying taxes, admits to being a groper and promotes racial and religious intolerance. Trump has made outsiders feel like insiders because he legitimizes human prejudice and mainstreams bigotry’
———————————————–
What Americans are saying, and many around the world are saying, is:
“we don’t really care about these things”
As one US network pundit said tonight “I can name 5 policy things that Trump believes in, and I can’t name 1 that Hillary believes in”
Everyone has personal foibles.
I suspect that Trump is far less a misogynist than you believe.
I suspect that he is far less racist than you describe.
However, most people don’t really care about social justice nonsense issues.
All people have some prejudice. Who cares. Ignore them if you don’t like their personal beliefs.
Obama is a great liberal, a fine socially conscious president.
He has been an unmitigated disaster.
Obamacare has been a mess.
People do not choose leaders because they are socially progressive.
Social progessiveness does not provide jobs.
Social progressiveness does not balance the budget.
Social progressiveness does not equate to strong leadership.
The American electorate is not happy with immigration.
They are not happy with any trade at any cost that seems to benefit trading partners, corporations, but not themselves.
They are not happy with the direction of their country, at the hands of the progressives.
That does not make them racist, xenophobic or anti-trade.
It makes them human.
Looks like I’m not doing toilets. even though there was no counter party bet, its in the archives.
If there was. The home page would be mine.
I would just say. Gartho. democarcy free speech.

He worked for phyco Harpo, and gave him the bird.

Yes. I called it here. Weeks before the GF poll where I said I voted Trump.
I study history. Beat, whip, and stomp on the : serf’s, peasants, peons, laborers, former hundred’s of millions of middle class world wide, hard enough and long enough, and they will rebel, either by vote or by bloodshed. Like during the Industrial Revolution, where beating on the above produced Unions. Blood was spilled by workers to get a fair deal in pay and working conditions. Nothing was ever given by any sense of fair play.
Unfortunately, many Unions got as greedy as their Overlords. Hence, Globalization. More greed.
LOVE of money is the root of all evil. As well as the lust for power and prestige. Right, Hillary? It was your downfall. Government for the people by the people had long ago disappeared. Will it come back?
I’m not holding my breath. I take full responsibility for my actions, as I am a man, and must look after myself. Or, suffer the consequences. Unlike many, not including the handicapped, but the entitled getting a free handout. Time to cut them off.

Simply amazing. Democracy is beautiful thing. Despite all the misrepresentations and name calling in the media – even from people like Garth – Americans would not be denied on what truly mattered to them. Bravo! Finally someone to fight for their jobs and sovereignty. Congrats President Trump!
I can honestly say that I have not watched more than 15 minutes of the campaign as covered on the mainstream media. I am watching the live coverage on two MSM outlets tonight, however.
What is clear to me is that those who have been in control of the (false) narratives for the past 15 years have, at some point, bought their own bullshit. They seem COMPLETELY flabbergasted that Trump could win.
i mean DEVASTATED, UNPREPARED AND TERRIFIED.
From my POV (politically agnostic, I think they’re all a bunch of dyed in the wool sociopaths at this point) it was obvious that Trump at least had a chance. a great one. That this bunch of ‘professionals’ were caught with their pants off (not down… OFF) demonstrates exactly WHY Trump will win (pretty much has won)
It is because those in power positions have 100% detached from reality.
That Trump used words that real people use was enough to win most ‘regular’ folks over.
That’s ALL it took!
Look, I think the man is a pig.
A total pig.
But he is more REAL than anything we’ve seen since I was in diapers.
In this world of 24/7 spin and lies people were starving for real words, real emotion and and end to the nauseating spoonfeeding of PC claptrap that has almost strangled the Western World to death.
What scares me is that Canada is going to look south and in a blind panic not to have this ‘happen here’ we are going to go after freedom of speech and expression.
I am a herdonomics apprentice, and I hope that you all remember this warning and choose the right side of the fight when it comes to preserving our rights in the near future.
peace.
Trump will approve the Keystone Pipeline. Good for Canada. Buy ENB and TRP now.

Not surprised by the results after listening to many of his speeches. People are obviously fed up with the status quo and want change. I only hope that he is able to follow through with the promises he has made to the people. I believe he will be good for the U.S. I believe he can make America great again. I wish him and all the people in the United States the very best.

People voted against the establishment and Hilary, they don’t care Trump is crude and says crude things. It is a very divided country down there!
Having been saying something afoot in America for awhile.
Tried to post anti-Trump calculations about EC Vote knowing fully well he may well win…hey, still believed in Jung’s Collective Subconscious, but clearly that effort failed.

Good advice Garth, I think I’ll wait a year before I next logon.
Keep your awesome advice coming Garth.

Trump for those who understand the descent from three middle class knew trump had a real shot. Free trade is BAD for the middle class but great for a handful of people. Hopefully trump does what he says. Polls are all fake.
I wasn’t sure which way America was going to turn either, but was hoping for a “decisive” victory by one candidate; especially given Trump’s rumblings about potentially refusing to concede a close vote…
Tomorrow will be interesting…along with the next few weeks. The natives are definitely restless…
Holy crap…I just realized that’s TWO posts in one night!
Garth I appreciate your humility. You overestimated humanity, well put. In the end, a balanced and globally diversified portfolio will be fine and has been through worse.
The 1% elites greed is to blame for the result. And the result is a complete swing of the pendulum. Globalism is dying because it didn’t respect the people.Canada is in for a rude awaking.
And Trudeau2: Advice to you…listen to your people.
“Tens of millions” didn’t vote for any of the above. A seedless water melon sans teleprompter could have achieved identical results.

Polls R SOOOOO Phake
Thank goodness I’d already given up on any idea that humans are rational or the world makes sense, or I might be quite disillusioned now.
So much for that rate hike in December…
Well the world really got their asses handed to them tonight. Did NOT see that coming but, it’s often been said, never under estimate the stupidity of a large part of the American public. Back to the stone ages if this idiot doesn’t blow the whole world up in the mean time. God help us all.
Pollsters? You’re Fired!
Dow down 800.
Make America Great Again hats sold out!
Immigration Canada site crashing.
The “embarrassed Trump voter” just high fived the “embarrassed Brexit voter.” The media mocked them but they had the last laugh. They didn’t want to admit to the tyranny of the masses who they wanted to vote for, but in the privacy of the polling booth they made their choice.

I agree. You can outsource and ignore the great unwashed US worker for only so long before they bite back.
I’m so sad on the amount of hatred that exists.
This event was a great example of that rare opportunity, a trade that almost could not lose.
I am heavily short the loonie, as my thinking was:
1) Hillary wins (likely, I thought) then loonie rises temporarily, but means the fed raises rates in December is guaranteed, which brings the loonie right back down and much lower in a few days or
2) Trump wins and loonie takes an immediate beating, not as bad as the MXP, but not nearly as risky a trade.
Too bad you don’t get many set ups like this.

As this is really about Canadian real estate and investment could a Donald presidency be good for Canadian real estate ? for obvious reasons .
This result, although shocking to most, was not to me. I lived in the UK from 2000 through to 2006. I witnessed throughout the entire country, beyond the pale boroughs ol’london town, a deep resentment toward the EU. I often said when I lived there that given the right opportunity – a referendum – that the majority of Britons would choose to leave the Union. It was clear to me as it was during Brexit, that the those in the know – elites, the 1 percenters – all knew the folly of a referendum.
Onward and upwards, during your canvassing of opinion as to who would win the US election I was one who voted for Trump. It has been patently obvious to me that it is the periphery that is driving this election. For the first time in US history you have an individual who puts voice to the working class citizen, the disaffected, the marginalized. As an individual who comes from a very working class background it didn’t take much to see the shift in the United States to an anti-establishment viewpoint by the disaffected majority. The only irony here is that it took a billionaire to give voice to those people and draw them out in huge numbers to cast their ballot against what they perceive to be the status quo.
In the end, life will go on, the markets will be fine and as long as we all keep balance portfolios as is espoused here we will all weather the storm better than most!
Bahahaha. Neither of them are good candidates, but there’s a part of me that’s very glad. Crooked Hilary thought she could screw over Bernie without any ramification. She thought she could manipulate the media (see: Politico emails).

We should be making trade deals our raison d etre’.
Otherwise we are beholden to crackpots with simpleton ideas and bad tempers.
Lets have a World Trade G200 in Toronto! If we don’t The Donald can and has the ability to send us into severe recession.

…was wondering if that’s what the D9 in yer header stood for…
Democratic are stupid. Bernie Sanders would of won. The corporate elite got greedy with sellout Clinton. Now we maybe stuck with trump. I hope does what he says and not just tell us what we want to hear. Tear up NAFTA . Bring back the auto pack and other tariffs and bring back all those domestic jobs. The down side corporations will make a little less as they have to share some of the pie instead of eat it like pigs.
“Dont tell people what to do or they will tell you where to go” these were the lessons from Rob Ford, Justin and (now) Trump campaigns…mainstream media and public influencers seem to forget that all too often and serves them right… nothing surprising here.. he played this amazingky and deserves congrats.. stop and think about it.. guy wanted to be president and he did it.. starbucks meet budweiser..
Pumpkin spice whatch-ama-call-it??
I think the people that can’t understand how Trump won (?) this thing should consider the following:
Trump says “I could shoot someone in the face and they’d still love me”
Hillary supporter: “Oh my god, Trump just said he wants to shoot people in the face!! He’s a lunatic!”
Trump supporter: “Haha Trump knows we love the bastard for being so politically incorrect”
Now which of those two is more rational?
Its okay Garth. You did your best. You fell for the mainstream media propaganda hook, line and sinker!
So did many.
Oh my , my. Did my gold ounces just rise by $100.
Whats that all about?
Once Trump reveals whats in the Clinton emails I believe your world view will change.
Hopefully he won’t be killed first.
It’s going to be revealed that it’s quite the web they’ve weaved trying to deceive.
Trump is president elect and the world will not end because of it. Tomorrow the world will carry on. And Obama will go down in history as one of the worst presidents in history. But what I still find surprising is how naive Canadians are. To all those Canadians who don’t understand how Trump could be elected think about this. You do not live in the USA. So how could you possibly know what this election was/is about? By watching the news?? Wake up, turn off the tv and get with the program.
“A Trump surge was not on my radar”
Sorry Garth but we your beloved bloggers have been telling you this outcome for months. Even right from the beginning when you said that Trump would not even make the Rep nominee.
Sorry man.
Sorry James never got to kno ya!
Nice piece, open with false humility and end with a heaping spoonful of condescension. I think many people will be shocked to discover that Mr Trump is none of the nasty things he has been called on this blog, or in other places. Trump won Florida, which, I believe, has one of the largest concentrations of Latin American voters in the US. Maybe they see things more clearly from the bottom than some people do from the lofty heights.

Hundreds more did all across Canada. Earlier today Shaw Cable fired all of its well paid piece work technicians in favour of lower paid hourly workers. Then the hourly workers were demoted to a lower job category with …..lower pay!

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-11-08/toronto-million-dollar-homes-pushing-demand-to-nearby-cities
It’ worse than Brexit…nobody gets to leave.
Guess I’m making another house (or half a Vancouver house) on gold tomorrow. :) Adjusted for the sales mix, of course (ie: not phony Realtor numbers!).
The big question here is will this be bullish or bearish for Canadian RE??
Probably bearish. A continuation of the trend over the past few years, accelerating in the past month or two.
Not much humility Garth, when you state you “overestimated humanity “. People are just so, so tired of politicians saying one thing in public and doing nothing or the opposite of what they say. People are not stupid Garth, it’s sad you believe that.
trump holds real estate not stocks – dow 14000?
Well… I think the simmering anger out there was completely misunderstood by the MSM and goverments. Not that I think things will be awesome… more scary than anything, but change always is.
At least it might be better, instead of “America never stopped being great”, possible the worst slogan I’ve ever heard going into a shitshow like this.
Watching the C-SPAN live coverage from Hillary campaign HQ is so depressing lol
Well, time to buy into the dip! Asia already tanking, probably anticipating the TPP being confetti.
To CBC and especially CBC Radio…it serves you all right and I’m so happy!!!!!!!

Trump will reach out and bring in democrats rather than just rely on re-tread republicans to build his transition team. Everything about the guy is unexpected. Unless you read Sun Tzu of course.
***
I honestly hope you are correct. I hold a dim view of trump so extremely skeptical, but will go with your glass half full POV, since the alternative is so very bleak.
On another theme – I wonder if anyone closing on a million dollar tear down today is seriously sh*tting bricks?
And on the upside – with Trudeau looking for talented immigrants, we may benefit from smart people who would otherwise look to the USA coming here instead for stable, secure democracy.
a sad day for civilization . where ignorance and racism is the flavour of the day.
Pure. Gold.
Christmas came Early :)
First Brexit, now Trump. This won’t be the last of the surprises either. Many more surprises ahead coming from Europe now, along the same line of anti-establishment votes. Italy, France, and more!
Either way, a Trump win will tank markets and his planned policies and battles will do little to improve our portfolios in the coming years.
Really should have bought that house …
Well.. looks like i gotta eat crow and hand it to the Smoking Man.
….That dude can roll man….
His polling stations across various New York state casinos were accurate.
Smoking Man: you should be hired by CBC to provide political the view of the masses from the nation’s casinos?
A reality TV star becomes POTUS??
That’s nothing. I remember a time when a grade B actor with dementia gained the Oval Office.
And that’s how much they DIDN’T want Hillary….
Bwahahahahaha! I called Trump by a landslide because he gets the people. Hillary is a bag lady for Soros and the planet killers. Trump is great for Canada , Alberta will boom again, keystone is assured. The climate zombies will will eat the sustainable development tax models they’ve spewed by the mega ton. It’s Trump by a landslide and Hillary, Bill, Podesta and Brazille etc for prison. I can’t wait for the Clinton Foundatipn trials to begin
And btw , Juniper Trudeau will venture into a whole new reality when he pukes up all the crow he’s spewed at Trp on behalf of his god Obummer
Can’t wait to see all those celebrities planning on moving to Canada to flee trump to experience the warm embrace of our foreigner real estate tax, lol.
“Trump has made outsiders feel like insiders because he legitimizes human prejudice and mainstreams bigotry. He became a powerful leader by being a meticulous follower. I did not think this was possible. I underestimated him. I overestimated humanity.”
“overestimated humanity.” Well said. We all thought that telling people living in the richest country on earth in the 21st century that they were poor, thanks to foreigners, would fall flat as a pitch. Apparently there are tens of millions of people with zero perspective, who are willing to let jealousy over the success of persons with different skin colours overshadow the fact that they live in the richest society in the richest era ever.
I’m still in the denial stage, and this ain’t over ’til it’s over. But, if it’s over, thank God we’re here, without a party that wants to gut trade and immigration for its own this-cycle advantages. It’s going to be terrifically shitty with a nincompoop in charge of our by-far-largest trading partner.
If they’ve got a loser in charge, thank God our last government negotiated CETA, and our current government got it done. And we’ll trade with our TPP partners with or without those isolationist morons on whom we used to rely.
next president is ivanka trump

SM’s call on the wives was brilliant. The wife will play nicey, nicey, & lie. As a kid I remember mom went with dad on the heavy stuff. She isn’t going to live with old man pissed off. That so called “women for Hilary” stuff came after” wifey with husband.” And subtley the nudge is extended to the daughters but of course silently, don’t make waves. American women fooled the experts.
I’m glad to see you contrite. It was so obvious to me you were wrong about this, and I lost a lot of respect for you. Not because your forecast was wrong, but because you revealed how wedded you are to the status quo no matter what its flaws. Time to sell the Harley.
#93 Lady Jane on 11.09.16 at 12:17 am
Well the world really got their asses handed to them tonight. Did NOT see that coming but, it’s often been said, never under estimate the stupidity of a large part of the American public. Back to the stone ages if this idiot doesn’t blow the whole world up in the mean time. God help us all.

It looks like they took the anti-establishment way.

President Donald J Trump
It’s official. PBS / Associated Press has called the vote for President Trump
Told ya.
Stand fast Craigellachie!
I’m utterly terrified, not what?
I don’t see how this can be anything but instability and unpredictability.
It’s starting to sink in. A very dangerous man has just taken over the world’s powerful country. This joke isn’t funny anymore.

Change is in the air.

Be happy to read your book
The markets were wrong.
But now comes the hangover kinda like the T2 Experience.
Yah I voted Trump because the there were no other choices. Clinton has evil in her look, Trump is a SOB but he knows his market.
Change is in the air world wide just have to observe.
But as Garth said…more of the same.
As I said here on this blog a couple of weeks ago, America will never elect a woman as President.
The analytics and other emotional feelings had nothing to do with this result. America is in a steep rate of decline and they will accept any baboon to lead, as long as it isn’t a woman. Of course the woman wasn’t the greatest choice either.
Let the fun begin. Tension and civil war is ripe in the Lost States of America,
If you look at the map – most big cities where parasites segregate voted democrat. Every state where bankers rule voted blue. Everyone else who is sick and tired of the faux recovery and phantom statistics went red.
The headlines tomorrow should read: “World War 3 Averted!” Thank god!
Congrats, Smoking Man. Congrats!
#35: America is set back 60 years by this outcome.
Yes, that was when the USofA was great.
This should be good for USofA if all those Republicans work with Trump in unison.
Now, for the Canada and Mexico, maybe not so.
Thanks T2.
I was wrong. Smoking Man was right. Respect!
Congratulations to the Americans who have started to set the record straight! I guess it’s true–never bet against the US
Careful what you wish for. America got their Ugly American …
Lots of faces red and stuffed with crow on this blog tonight. Time for a nitecap, before bed. A glass of Schadenfreude should go down nice!
Let me paly with herdonomics (I am not even an apprentice) and forecast loss of civil liberties and free speech in Canada, more PC and BS.
Our whites/christian/heterosexual (mostly males) don’t stand a chance here.
USofA prospers, we slide down :(
#113 “our High tech sector”
That thing died in 2002, I was there. Never recovered.
SM your book rocks!
@ #118 Alberta Ed – your pain is entertaining. Please show us more.
CBC was so pathetic tonight. 3:21am, and some moron still yammering about the possibility that when all votes are counted, she may win the popular vote. LOL… yet off the air you gasbag.
Robert Ford has been re-incarnated as “le grande orange” and is about to destroy another govt.
Evidently republican recruiters have been able to roll over even more rocks to find deplorable voters.
But then Americans may just be that stupid.
I thought there would be a bit more humility and a bit less time on the high horse from Garth. Everyone gets put in their place at some time, would not be the first for Mr. Turner. I would see this as being out of touch rather then an insult.
“I did not think this was possible. I underestimated him. I overestimated humanity.”
Garth even Malcolm Gladwell who wrote the Tipping Point didn’t see it. Americans had little choice with wikileaks verifying wrong doing.
You are right on the markets, investing, and housing. You should think about running for PM, change will be in the air in 3 more years. You have the backing for sure. We need a strong, sensible leader. But then again enjoy your life and your family.
One interesting point is 5% of those ages 20-29 voted for Gary, one day maybe in the near future independents will be the next fade/trend/need.
Cheers, friend
And wait a second, I hate to rub it in, but isn’t one of your big arguments for investing all about the preferential tax implications? You’ve certainly gloated about your healthy profits on such investments, and how those profits are improved by the lower tax one pays on them. I really don’t see the difference. As a tax lawyer I mean. After all, they’re both legal forms of “tax avoidance”.
Democracy. Keeping lefty PC fascists from stealing all our money.
Politically correct is so 2000’s. Let the new era begin.
Say it like it is. Having a multi-ethnic society is OK. Having a multi-cultural one is a fallacy.
That’s not racist. That’s self-evident.
#95 ulsterman on 11.09.16 at 12:18 am
The “embarrassed Trump voter” just high fived the “embarrassed Brexit voter.” The media mocked them but they had the last laugh. They didn’t want to admit to the tyranny of the masses who they wanted to vote for, but in the privacy of the polling booth they made their choice.
**********
Somewhere along the way the media forgot they are actors and news readers and not investigative journalists.
So it’s official we can no longer trust the media polls or 538.
Let this sink in. President Donald Trump with a landslide victory also wins the House and the Senate plus control over the Supreme Court for the next 40 years. This is a total victory. No other description is worthy.
Hillary didn’t have the courage to face the people and concede.
Prooves America got it right tonight.
Anyone paying attention knew that the polls were skewed 5%-15% heavy on democrats. As usual the MSM and pro establishment types painted a façade that this election was a slam dunk for HRC. They tried to control the narrative. Those paying attention expected a Trump landslide.
How sad for America and humanity in general would it have been that a scandal ridden self serving person who jeopardized national security and many lives in the intelligence community using her private email server (for her supposed convenience)…a person above the law, was elected leader of the free world. My how hard her and her cronies would have laughed at the entire so called democratic process. And imagine how this person would have acted as POTUS. she would have thought she was god herself.
The establishment bank on peoples’ ignorance. And if you try to educate people about crooked Hillary, most do not want to hear it. They don’t believe that someone could be that crooked running for office. It’s all conspiracy theory they say. The saddest part is that many people knowing she’s a liar and untrustworthy still voted for her.
Bernie Sanders would have beaten Trump, but TPTB wanted to install Hillary. So, they screwed Bernie over. Stole the nomination from him. Alas he would have been eaten alive as POTUS, anyway. The DNC got beaten and deserved to get the beating.
This election wasn’t so much about ideology as it was about exactly how far we’ve fallen as a race — and whether or not we have given up letting evil reign unchallenged so as not to stir the filth that has polluted the lake of humanity to the service. Oh the Mammon!
Polls famously said B.C. would have an NDP landslide in 2013 (didn’t – exact opposite in Liberals’ favour); said Trudeau “might” win (was a landslide); said Brexit would never happen (did); and up until day-of, said Trump had minuscule chance of victory (“wrong!”). To me, this is the real tragedy. Polls are consistently, horribly wrong. Is there ever any soul-searching at these firms? Or…?
This just proves “the markets” have as many dimwits as the rest of society. How could anyone honest thing Clinton would win? There were no reasons to rally behind her. Clinton voters were too busy pooh-poohing Trump. How is that going to win over swing voters? Ask any Trump supporter and they were overflowing with reasons for voting Trump. Even dumb reasons are more compelling than no reason at all other.
This was no Brexit. USD will continue to rally.

Great good day!
Hopefully not lost with Trump’s victory is how hollow and interconnected the mainstream media showed itself to be. Read corrupt. It used to be “The Forth Estate”, a necessary component in democracies to keep the politicians feet to the fire.
To those who might finally be beginning to awaken throw away the daily paper, the talk shows and the evening news. You are a unique human being who should not contract out your thinking. Gather information from disparate sources, weigh the strengths and the weaknesses and make your own mind up. You may end up being wrong at times but at least you weren’t the chicken in the cage with the high hormone slop shoved down your beak.
Useless (redundant) politicians are going the way of the buggy whip. When pressing issues such as the economy and youth unemployment are pushed aside in preference to ‘monumental’ mandates such as gay marriage and trans-gendered bathrooms, or bundled cable packages for that matter then it is clear that these overpaid, pensioned parasites with the $1500 hairdos should grab a shovel and start widening the Trans Canada Highway if they want to do the very least for the people that they represent. They work for YOU. not the other way around.
On a very minor point, knowing that every blog has its eccentrics and eccentricities, I noticed a little SM vs James conflict.
For those with ADD, the loon SM was afraid to take James up on his challenge so no calls for a ban on James are valid. Whoever or whatever SM is, he/she/it
is some kind of weirdo who might possibly commit hari kari if not allowed to post on this blog. Another strange case of cyber pseudo reality that is becoming more and more common. A sad development that.
Cheers-
Say, where’s that The American guy that liked to drop the f-bomb all over the place while getting all aggro declaring how ignorant Canadians were about the American electoral system and how Trump couldn’t win because of the Electoral College blah blah blah…?
Strangely though, this turn of events doesn’t make me feel like gloating much over just how wrong that fool was.
Trump winning the US election reminds me of a dog chasing a car. He never really expected to catch one, and now that he has, has no idea of what he’s actually going to DO with it…
About the tax thing:
– we’re paying: ~30% on income + 13% HST + ~10% (through currency devaluation in favor of the government) + ~15% (through biased regulations like preserving Bell/Rogers/Telus monopoly using taxpayers money) + ~10 (through other small taxes like property, driver’s license, …) = ~78%
So ~80% of our incomes go to taxes.
If that number reaches 100%, then we will all be slaves without being officially told so.
In these circumstances, not paying taxes is a patriotic thing to do.
Can I post again?
Trump did not win the election!
It was Hillarys whom lost it.
An american friend told me several days ago. American wasn’t ready for a women president.
Worst one whom they felt was arrogant, with a history of deception.
America wanted change, they didn’t get that from Obama. The hispanic and Black voter did not come out to vote. (Brutal). Women did not come out to vote for Hillary, because they just don’t trust this Clintons and their history of abuse is way worst than Crumper Trumper.
Too bad Hillary, its time to go. Bernie would of won, the democrats pick a losing horse.
Interesting year so far (and it ain’t over yet, children).
First the Brits got BRexit, now the Yanks got Trump.
Might just be something to those Nostradamus Predictions (Google it). But, hey, don’t sweat the small stuff, right?
And soon the Donald will be handed the little black book that Obama was given when he took office. You know, the one that details what is really going on in the world…and in the end not much will change.
Not sure what happened to HRCs 87% chance of winning… Anyway, Smokey called it and for that he deserves props. Good luck to all.

From my favourite movie – Office Space:
“So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that’s on the worst day of my life.”
I rest my case.
When do the deportations start?
As you heard, they will be conducted in a “very nice way”, in a “very humane way”.
I’m starting an apprenticeship in bricklaying today. 20 more years of job security.

“Rather like her #1 BFF here in Ontario, currently “enjoying” rock-bottom approval ratings.”
-when that 19 year old starts talking things are going to get interesting. Ontario politics might go the same way as the USA did. Right now they are shielding him from the media but that can’t last forever. Apparently he’s going to start talking about family values, abortion, and gender identity, if they would only let him off his leash. He is going to say things that will make people very angry and he’s not going to know why. Remember, home schooled since he was old enough to talk. Never been in a classroom. Still lives with his parents. The religious right view him as a deity. The rest of us, not so much. If he’s the voice of the conservatives, our currently unpopular premier might enjoy a surge in her approval rating.
Why is Madonna not returning my calls. She ows me.
Trump got in because his daughter is hot and America wants to see more of her.
Now Garth needs to be right because I’m still renting 7 years later…
“No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.” H.L. Mencken
Let us not forget that this is the same nation that elected George W. Bush not once, but twice.
Let us also remember the role that celebrity / notoriety often plays in U.S. elections.
After all, Arnold Schwarzenegger was governor of California and Jesse Ventura once ruled Minnesota.
I said it multiple times that he would win. It’s truly a sad day. On another note the Canadian immigration website crashed last night. We should build a wall and have the Americans pay for it and if they complain we should build it 10ft higher. Lol
I am shocked. I was dead wrong about the election along with the majority of voters on the blog poll and even Garth himself.
I said earlier that some of the blog dogs are very knowledgeable and some are nutbars. I should have added some are both. I guess it takes a real contrarian to correctly predict an event like this.
Nailed it…Trump wins!
Does this make you part of the elite establishment Garth?
The sky is falling!
ChickenLittle…
I did not think this was possible. I underestimated him. I overestimated humanity.- Garth
—————————————————
Stop with your undeserved insults to humanity.
Actually, your error and that of the rest of the elites is that you misunderstood and continue to misunderstand how socio-economics impacts politics. As Venezuela, Brexit, and this election has demonstrated, outside of outright violent action, there is only one way in a democracy to reign in the greed of the elite, investor class: Hit them in the pocket book by electing either a real reformer like Bernie Sanders or a moron like a Chavez or a Trump who will bring the corps and the investor class to their knees. A huge chunk of the voting public, unlike the elites have little to lose and everything to gain.
This will hit every investor in the pocket book and, in turn, the corporations who now run the political machine to their own advantage.
Hopefully folks like you will finally understand what this is all about.
Absolutely stunned, disappointed, are there really THAT many people that honour this horrible excuse of a man and his frightening rhetoric.
Check out CNN Van Jones comment.

I have to be honest. The Americans got the president they deserve, not the president they need. Neither were good but lets see what heppens now!
As for this being a surprise, dont forget Garth that the majority of people who read your blog are above average earners and would not have voted Trump. He apeals more to the blue collar man, which after reading time and again how “my wife and i have a combined income of six figures, bla bla bla” …..its just not normal!!
Heres an example of what i was saying:
“We’re in our late 20s (recently married) with combined salaries of $170,000 (near equally split) and with modest bonuses should hit $200k,” he says”

Too bad, so sad, smoking idiot.
Once again, your cowardice overwhelmed you.
You lacked the courage of your convictions to take me on, to take my challenge. I would have honoured my pledge and left here forever. But now, I will be here, and pointing out what a fraud and loser you and the other Trumpsuckers are.
Lacking the courage of one’s convictions is not just what makes you so pathetic, it is also what will destroy the Trump presidency. He really does not have a clue what he will do, can do, or how to do it. He will be severely constrained by those in his own party who want to restrain and grandstand against him. And his interests are securely with the 1% who exploit immigrant workers and undermine the middle class, rigging the system against regular folks. That won’t change, fools.
Yes Garth, you were wrong but hey it’s not like it didn’t happen before!!!
BTW you are also wrong on your evaluation of Trump.
He wasn’t elected by the «deplorables», he was elected by the affluent middle class, people like me who are sick of being ripped off by the government.
Garth: sometimes problems take care of themselves.
The outcome of this election is going to be end up being a good outcome, unless you were bristling to carry a rifle in East Ukraine for Wall Street.
I am as surprised as you are, but glad to see that there are no cowards south of the border. They did what they thought they had to do, anyway.
#2 buggerit on 11.08.16 at 11:04 pm
“No… you overestimated Americans. Much of humanity thought like you and I. The southern “neighbours” had different ideas.”
No…..much of humanity is fed up with a framework that is clearly rigged in favor of those in a position to TAKE, TAKE, TAKE, are beyond determined to use it, and damn the consequences- no matter how much political palaver is devoted to braying about how concerned government is and wanting to support the “middle class”. What a crock. The only reason government does so is, contrary to popular perception, to get those damned viable taxpaying units to be more efficient at pumping and spinning cash. Well, the VTU’s are sick of being fleeced with crap interest rates, crap jobs and crap, deteriorating social services and crap fees, all served up with a never-ending stream of bs. And they have spoken.
Deal with it.
Were either of these candidates Ideal? No, but people have spoken- clearly. They are beyond fed up with working for practically nothing whilst the “Marie Antoinettes” of the world live in a completely privileged utopia. The wealth of humanity’s lifeblood needs to be spread far more equitably.
Finally, I’m not American, but am constantly amazed by the extent and level of cretinous spraying of childish insult stating that Americans are somehow less intelligent than the rest of humanity.
Smug, delusional, self-serving put downs. Non-Americans are no more capable or intelligent than they are and the mistakes they commit are simply just as dumb.
So, I and 30% of bloggers here predicted Trump’s win. Am I happy? Yes. But not 100%, neither candidate was great. At least America will be great again.
And, I have to toot my own horn, I’m very proud my timing the market and technical analysis worked again 3 for 3 this year (USD/CAD, BREXIT call and now Trump call). It’s a great year and I made quite a lot of money on those calls.
Garth, (et al). There are times when fundamentals DO NOT WORK and you have to rely on technical analysis to see the big picture.
Also, Garth if you would like some constructive criticism, always remember in trading or making a call:
ALWAYS WAIT FOR CONFIRMATION.
Trump, do your best. And those who didn’t vote for Trump, do your best to support your country and your president. Wishing failure on someone will only bring you more misery.
Welcome to my nightmare. Here is hoping the world can survive Trump as POTUS. One thing I will say about him being elected as president – no one who voted for Trump can say they didn’t know what they were voting for. It isn’t like he concealed how he thought or how he acted from anyone.
Status quo
Here is what the status quo has got us.
Less moral conviction.
More wishy-washy tolerances.
Less responsibility.
More cover-yer-ass concerns.
Less focus on results
More focus on the journey.
Less hard work.
More basement dwellers.
Less pastors.
More engineers and lawyers
Less community involvement.
More municipal taxes.
Less common sense
More laws
Less innovation
More herding.
Less responsibility
More victims
Less marriage
More partners
Less discipline
More blame
Care to add?
Garth, don’t be too hard on yourself……predicting the future ain’t easy. One thing is sure, anonymous blogs seem even less accurate at polling than the main stream media…..
Polls do not predict. They reflect the view of participants. Most readers here did not expect a Trump win. — Garth

the news yesterday, Winnie Wynn is considering bringing back Photo Radar to Ontario ala under the guise of providing safety in school zones. Many may remember this blatant tax grab and assault on the driving public from the mid 90’s that was canned due to its unpopularity. Garth how about a good old fashioned on line petition to kill this bs Tax Grab before it starts?
Oh one other thing “james” guess you better send smoking man a “jug” and kiss and make up!
Haven’t posted for awhile, but I have tried to visit the site two or three times a week.
This recovery supposedly happening in the USA was largely a statistically ginned up lullaby put on a continuous loop for the top say, 15% of the population. Given their trust in experts and their self-selected inclusion into the ‘smart’ class of spreadsheets, compound interest, and statistical evidence; they believed it verbatim. Thus, no need to pull open the drapes of the palace and look out the window at the little people who pay taxes, let alone open the window and take a smell of what was cooking. Whether the echo chamber will crack open or not is relatively moot at this stage, since the demos doesn’t care and can now plainly see that the emperor is naked. Credibility will be a rare commodity amongst the existing group of liberal, cosmopolitan, wealthy elite. After three or so decades blanket hypocrisy and opening the doors for global capital to ravage the lower economic classes, is it really a mystery as to why no one trusts anything they say?
This “unexpected” outcome is having a more significant effect on the bond market then the equity market
After he sees the U.S. results, I can already see the Condo King planning his path to the top.
Lamb’s promises on the campaign trail:
“I’ll build a wall – around Scarborough.”

No jobs, lousy economy terrible weather, overpriced real estate who would go anywhere up there?
Now let’s see.
Trump will kill the bs climate change Paris tax.
T2 will tax us.
Trump will kill corp taxes bringing millions of jobs to the USA.
T2 will raise them killing jobs

Interesting to say the least.

Don’t panic and don’t try to time the market is good advice, but so is taking a small percentage of your total and keeping an eye on what is happening. Buying into the U.S. market with this possibility and the market already pretty high didn’t seem wise over the past few months. I’ve got a small amount of cash I’ve been waiting for a buying opportunity – looks like it might a good time later this week.
Trump fans in Canada shoud be very, very careful what they wish for.
My contacts in the federal government tell me there has been some very interesting contingency planning around this election’s possible outcomes.
In short, Canada will soon open its doors to over 2 million American families over the next decade. These immigrants will be overwhelmingly centre-left, the main reason they will flee.
This demographic shift will turn Canada into a resolutely left of centre, feminist, progressive nation, rivalling the best of the Scandinavian nations, for generations, while the USA plunges into internal strife and neocon lunacy.
And we have the perfect federal leaders to bring this to fruition. Thank you Justin!
The longer term spinoff will be fabulous for our country :)

“people voted against the system and hillary is the system personified.”
Yeah, people voted against Hillary because she was in the pocket of establishment billionaires who don’t give a damn about the little guy, offshore jobs and don’t pay any taxes.
Because Trump supporters don’t read or understand much, I’ll say it more plainly: Trump is an establishment billionare who offshores jobs and doesn’t pay taxes. It’s funny because in voting against the establishment, they voted for somebody who represents the worst kind of establishment.
So no… it’s not an anti-establishment vote. Instead of pay-for-play capitalists corrupting government, Trump bought the whole office.
Why are so many surprised to learn what George Carlin explained long ago; “Your average person is really quite stupid and if you stop and think about it that means that half of them are dumber than that”.
Trump did not win, education failed. We have only ourselves to blame. Our fat assed Kardashian ways are biting us in the ass. This is a reflection of the downward spiral of North American society (Canada included).
Garth,
Take it like a professional and concede that you, like the majority bought into what was fed to you. Voters didn’t lie to the pollsters. The pollsters lied with their questionable sampling methods to get a story suitable to their narrative for the people who paid them.
Stop attacking Trump for his flaws (given the alternative) and question why the majority voted for him.
Is it possible the US economy isn’t as rosy as reported in the media or here at this site? Is it possible that the all knowing central bankers’ manipulation has allowed companies to goose their numbers and rewarded only people holding their stocks??
Free trade overall is good for economies but the problem here is that no one was dealing with the net losers of these free trade deals which built up the outcome that you saw last night. 8 years of Bush did nothing but drag the US into 2 wars, 8 years of Obama for being “black” continued the trend. What other choice is there?
Trump will most likely preside over a big correction in the markets given all the goosing done since the “recovery”. If anything, question if the US allocation in your portfolio is balanced against the upcoming risk.

Garth totally missing the positive here. Massive victory for democracy as the elitist propaganda spewing machine is limited in its effort to place a criminal in the oval office. Also, a blow to nepotism. Trump is not ideal, but also not bought.

There will be less war though.
Bonds will not be safe, “Donald is the most bond unfriendly President you could ever dream up. He has a plan to spend a trillion dollars with no increase in tax rates. In fact, he wants to also lower taxes. He has openly talked about renegotiating the debt, and although he now understands this is non-starter, it gives a general sense of his attitude towards bond owners. Donald Trump made his fortune by taking advantage of easy credit and aggressively dealing (screwing) bond holders. He campaigned (and was a large part elected) on a protectionist platform that will be inflationary. I could go on, but you get the drift – Donald Trump is a bond owner’s worst nightmare.”

Trump is but one individual on this independent train. He needs the House and Senate to work with him if his administration is to succeed at anything. If he tunes out or alienates the Republican community in Washington whilst he is the President he could be the “lamest duck president to ever set foot in the oval office” You can be sure of that.
There is an unfortunate outcome of this election. It has now been proven that one can spin the most negative, divisive, and plain factually incorrect platform into an election win in a Western democracy. There will be no reason for either side to be truthful with voters going forward. They will tell them what they want them to hear to a degree never before seen.
The polling got it wrong because they failed to poll among people who hadn’t voted in decades. Those people turned out, and for that Trump must be applauded. He reached his base.
One can only hope he proves more moderate in office than he has been on the campaign trail. One things is certain, he will made a fortune off his new post.
Perhaps a Trump Presidency will be the “nail in the coffin” for overvalued residential real estate in Canada.
His rather boorish views on Janet Yellen and his desire to remove her from the Fed combined with a wave of protectionism have the potential to shake up markets.
Perhaps Trump will manage what interest rates, market interference and politicians have been unable to do to Canadian real estate.

Something that all the MSM and elites are still missing is that they all got punked by Trump. Trump created a character and a narrative that choked out others voices in the media. He knew he had no $$$ compared to Hillary’s multi BILLION $$$ fund, so he had no choice but to create an offensive and obnoxious presence that the MSM would happily lap up, and use the MSM’s inherent intolerance and arrogance against itself.
Did Trump the Character get away on him a couple of times? Oh yeah, he’d had conjured greased lightning in a bottle and sometimes it slipped out, but he knew that holding the nations attention was the only path.
Now? Time to create another character; Trump the President. Will he succeed? Who knows but everyone who underestimated him so far has been wrong.

I never counted Trump out of this race, because I feel that more of the US population is just fed up with the way it is and want real change. They had elected a president years ago that ran a campaign on CHANGE… nothing happened.
I can’t see Trump doing anything drastic with trade barriers, he isn’t a stupid person knowing that tariffs do not help in the long run.

Too bad, so sad, smoking idiot.
–
Whoa dude, you’ve got some serious rage issues… In the spirit of your challenge you should just go away, hopefully sooner than later – you’re only embarrassing yourself at this point.
Surfed all the major channels last night.
CBS, ABC, NBC, PBS and (God forbid) CBC.
Much soul searching from the American media outlets, much of it about how they over-hyped Clinton and especially how they missed the pulse of the electorate.
Some interesting self examination was going on, notwithstanding the one guy who just blamed Russia for everything.
CBC was a pathetic joke.
David Frum had some interesting commentary as the vote progressed and Keith Boag was good as normal.
The other two women (one was Ashley Banfield and the other, a black ultra left winger) were awful.
Frum made comments on the black voter turnout and how they did not support Clinton as they did Obama, and the black CBC panelist immediately talks about voter suppression on the states. She also brought up the ‘Trump is Hitler’ theme, which Frum gently but firmly debunked.
CBC was the last to call the election for Trump and even when it was clear that with the remaining states only having 5% votes left to count, the two women commentators made absurd comments that Clinton could ‘still win’ and that she still ‘had a good chance’ and that they should not give in to Trump yet.
Frankly, it was astounding that a national news organization would allow such openly partisan commentators as the two women were.
It was actually quite satisfying to watch them whine and see their disbelief in the fact that their worst nightmare (the election of Trump) was actually coming to fruition.
David Frum must have thought he was living his worst nightmare.
Mansbridge of course was horrendous, giving as much time to the intelligent and insightful Frum, as he did to the two wingnuts on either side of him.
Truly embarrassing.
I find it very interesting that so many people disappointed that Trump won are suggesting that there is something wrong with people, that everyone who supports Trump must be an inhuman racist, misogynist, war monger who can’t wait to start dropping bombs on everyone.
If you really believe that I think you might be projecting, and are in need of some serious introspection.
Or else, you just believe the nonsense fed to you by mainstream media and your biased party.
Also calls for some thought on your part.
Hillary was not rejected because of her gender. To believe that shows an almost ridiculous level of being out of touch.
I suppose these same people also believed all the bs statistics that the Obama admin spouted to ‘prove’ that the economy was doing fabulously.
Denial of reality does not usually end well.
More people actually voted for Clinton than Trump. — Garth
The US stock market is down 0.15%. So where’s this “big drop” I’ve been hearing about? I have some lowball buy offers in my account and NOT ONE was accepted. I was hoping some good deals, probably the only good thing to come out of this election result, would come along but no such luck.
…”promotes racial and religious intolerance”
Garth, you either try to fool us or you reading too much CBC. Either way it’s disgusting.
What’s disgusting is separating by their spiritual beliefs. “Donald J. Trump today called for a ban to all Muslims entering the US…” — Garth
Now you confirm yourself you good at reading/posting “selective news”. CBC should be proud of you. This is full statement from December 2015 : ““Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on,” his campaign says in a release.”
Yup. That is religious profiling. It’s disgusting. — Garth
Do I have to remind that statement was made right after San Bernardino, California killing of innocent people ? Or, was it “workplace violence” as Police initially tried to portray it ?
Irrelevant. Dividing people by faith is never justified. It’s about as anti-American as one can get. Take your blinders off. — Garth
So, the highest job in the US has just been filled by a 70 year old with no previous relevant experience, and who has severe character flaws and pending court cases for fraud and statutory rape.
On the positive side, I guess I can use this for inspiration whenever I am looking for work.

They’re probably also highly educated people, with many skills to offer. They may be just what we need to create wealth, fill jobs that are hard to fill because of skills shortages, and move this country forward to prosperity. That’s even if most of the goods and services we sell are to Europe and Asia rather than the soon to be over protectionist United States. Interesting times we live in.

………………………………………………………………………
Markets are flying now
http://finance.yahoo.com/
THE “LEAN-IN” GUYS WIN IT…LOCK, STOCK AND BARREL.
“Lean in” is a term coined in the wake of the now-concluded US elections.
During the campaign, many American Trump supporters, afraid to say so out in the open, would “lean in” to a friend or colleague and whisper that they were “for Trump.”
Those folks, four in ten American voters last night, were described as angry white men. But they provided the horsepower for the Trumpsters. And the “Big League Guy” won fair and square.
Hillary, like the Obamas and Bushes, are now consigned to the history books, as are the four former American dynastic families: The Adams; Harrisons; Roosevelts; Bushes. Each of those families held sway over America for two consecutive presidential terms, and not one term more.
What’ll happen to Hillary Inc. and her foundation and hangers-on and all of the grift and theft and threats and so on? What will happen to the Democratic Party? Who cares! They are more than yesterday’s story. Thank God!
So, the Trumps become the new and next dynastic American family: two terms for Trump, two terms for Donald Junior and two terms for Ivanka? A stretch? We’ll find out when we get there.
Best now to do some sitting on the sidelines for a while, all of us colonist forelock-tuggers, as we welcome our new boss into the Oval Office. Mr. Trump’s impact on our Selfie Prime Minister will be beyond huge. Nafta changes? A new energy corridor? Border controls? Mr. T. You’ll be earning your daily bread “Big League!” Brace for it.
As for the rest of us we thank your lucky stars we’re all suited up with plenty of preferred shares of Canadian banks and industrials (well, we are, aren’t we?). Mine are still getting over last night’s futures ruckus.
But it’ll be all good.
Right?
Democracy works. Let’s all try not to be sore losers.
Here’s what’s going to happen going forward that affects Canada:
1) NAFTA will have to be renogotitaed. The rust belt and closeby states of Wisconsin, Michigan, Penn, Ohio, Indiana, etc gave Trump a mandate.
2) Immigration will have to be reformed, just like how Britain is going to cut theirs to 1/6th the per capita level of Canada. Maybe T2 will accept 11 million illegals as Canada is waiving visa requirements for Mexicans starting in a few weeks?
What does Trudeau have to do?
A) Stop relying on the immigration economy to boost Canada.
B) Quit signing reckless free trade deals.
C) Prepare for a restless electorate in the next few years.
Like I said, the greed of the 1% led to the results of last nite. Expect more.
And one more thing Trump will do:
Break up the media conglomerates. The bias in MSM is a national security threat.
OMG!!! The Biggest black swan was here!!! Holy Molly!
I’m stocking up water and canned food for sure from now on, I just can’t believe what I saw last night on TV. Time to slit my mattress and pile up some cash for emergency.
God Bless America!!!
‘Calling Philladelphia…’
Last night the MSN bias and loyalty towards Clinton was exposed in all it’s sordid glory….
PA reporrting at 99% with a 60k lead for Trump…..enough to take him over the magic 270 and become President Elect.
But none of the networks were calling it. If that had been in Clinton’s favour they would have been falling over themselves to call it at 95% reported….let alone wait until 99%.
Finally Accociated Press called it…..but the networks still didn’t follow…..UNPRECEDENTED….
None of the networks wanted to be first to declare their worst nightmare…
It was hilarious watching them squirm trying to justify that “every last vote needs to be counted”.
Only when Clinton finally conceded (and didn’t even have courage to do it in front of her waiting fans)…did
The networks call PA.
If I were Trump the first thing I’d do today is call the FBI….”Now about those 650k emails…..”

You didn’t just realize this did you Don? Polls have been forever wrong and the media is bought and paid for.
tesla to be crushed without govt cash
short this to 50. easiest money ever.
Clinton won 47.7% vs Trump’s 47.5% of the popular vote. Okay, soooo?
Over 59 million people voted for Trump.
I just don’t get what the people who are ‘ashamed of humanity’ are implying.
Are you saying 59 million people have something wrong with them?
I continue to suggest you might want to check your assumptions.
My personal view of the 59 million that voted for Hillary is that some desperately wanted to see a female President, some are the inevitable result of left wing indoctrination at University (nothing inhuman, just misguided), and some are susceptible to the psy ops played that painted Trump as dangerous and dark.
Some even voted Dem because they always have.
And of course, some just couldn’t stand Trump’s mannerisms, his brashness, his unfiltered often ridiculous statements.
But if Hillary had won and I was a Trump supporter I wouldn’t say that I underestimated humanity.
There appears to be a big difference between how Hillary supporters view humanity and how Trump supporters view humanity.
Are you not surprised that Trump supporters are the optimistic, positive ones?
T2 will be grinning for selfies with Trump very soon.
Watch for him to be the first visit to Washington.
Over a 1000 point DOW swing in less then 12 hours… now that’s what I call some volatility.
Garth,
What does this US election result mean for the Canadian economy, especially Ontario? What about YYZ housing? Ontario industry? Canadian dollar? Oil? Gold? US Fed rate decisions? Bond markets? I suppose you are revamping your forecasts.
This might give a boost to YYZ real estate from foreign/US investment. The Cda/Ont government needs to make the 15% tax country-wide. Housing needs to be more affordable for young families and millennials, hard working Canadians need to be able to buy property in their homeland, not foreigners who only buy for investment and profit or rent thru Airbnb!! Support Canadian owned!!!!
Since YVR implemented 15% FT the government has been allocating that money into social programs instead of raising overall taxes. Hmmm. Maybe something the rest of the country should learn……take a hint Wynne or get voted out very soon!! She should actually resign after the latest scandal….
T2 will be gone too, he is giving our country away to foreigners for their profit and nothing affordable left for the next generation. It’s a shame. Promote from within. Let foreigners invest in our society and contribute to economic growth rather than profiting off the misfortune of others.
We have a terrible system that must be revamped. No affordable daycare. I had to put myself through university and take mega student loans, and strive for career progression in order to pay off loans and delay having children until it might not be possible and pay for IVF/freezing eggs and then I have to pay full daycare costs(like a mortgage payment each month) or one parent has to stay home. This society is ludicrous. It makes sense not to work or have a minimum wage job and live off the government coffers and hard working tax paying citizens and have a bunch of children and get all the benefits. Subsidized/social housing, subsidized daycare, child benefits, and the list goes on……pure nonsense!
Who cares about being a hard working citizen that contributes to society. It gets you nowhere in this awful system of ours!! Take note T2 and Wynne.
Everyone is saying foreign investment is such a small percentage in the YYZ housing market. If that is the case than why not implement the 15% tax, it won’t make a difference!! Unfortunately, our liberal government is corrupt and someone is obviously paying them off. This started with McGuinty and now Wynne :-(
Where are you Kevin O’Leary?? We need you to shake things up like Trump and make Canada great again! Forget these darn politicians who have no business sense or gauge for real issues in society and how to resolve without completely messing up so many industries and social programs (that they do not understand). There is absolutely no benefit for the hard working and citizens who actually contribute to society.
Markets aren’t going to “gyrate”.
A Trump presidency is pro-economy. He has virtually no social agenda, his entire foreign policy could be sketched on the back of a medium sized post it note.
He will focus on the economy, remove the other noise (and it’s cost), and America will advance.

Polls are wrong because they are phoning land lines. It is a physical demographic that is out of touch with reality.
*********************
Interesting story: Yesterday I was polled to see if I had a landline or cell phone for my home phone. It was taking too long for automated attendant so I hung up. Perhaps if they used a real person i would have answered, but like Garth said I would have told them the opposite.
Polls are designed for favorable results by the people who hire the pollsters.
If you want accuracy in your predictions, ignore polls, Bay Streeters, the Fed and listen to the average person instead. That way you will get a realistic view of what is happening with the masses. The elites are out of touch obviously.
The poll conducted here was with Canadians which was the flaw. The US culture is something different all together as we all found out last night.
‘ I overestimated humanity.’
Well, excuse me.
T2 and Trump have at least one thing in common. T2 swore election reform was in the cards if elected, as Trump railed against a ‘rigged system’. Now that they’re in power the tune changes. The ‘rigged system’ put Trump in power. Hillary won the popular vote. The irony on both sides of the border is palpable.

RATM
The markets have not sold off as badly as I expected.Globally, however, this is an economic inflection point. Protectionist European parties may now be encouraged to do their own form of ” Brexit” ..France & Italy maybe. An un-united European front against Russia may encourage Putin, and Trump has indicated he doesn’t care. But a bigger issue about Trump ,I believe,is his denial of Climate Change, and the repercussions of this spreading through more global protectionist governments.
Can we address the CHMC housing starts.
One TO poster said this will crunch the housing market and push prices higher. And Devil A jumped in and said the same adding was due to high building costs.
Weird logic to say the least as high building costs are reflective of strong demand. Contractor and building material prices can also revert to the mean – depending on demand.
No wonder Trump one, it seems that analytical thought is out the door these days. I take it that’s what happens when people think they are financial rock stars buying houses when the prices only increase. Ouch! I see it at work as well, those who are equity rick are rock in their own minds and project it in the work environment.
CBC is no longer watchable – they were so wrong.
To Hilliay…”Your fired”.
A drastic drop is reflective of demand slowing down for new construction (not good sign). Those people entering the market now (first time buyers) have to qualify at higher rates. But the twist in logic is quite telling.
What’s that saying the best day of boat or blog ownership is the date you buy it; second best day is the one when it’s sold :)
Toronto home prices might get boost from USA’s enraged lefties drowning their sorrows in a bottle of turpitude.

Really? Two hundred thousand “progressive” Yanks coming here as refugees for each of the next ten years?
What do they have to do to “prove” their authenticity: sing “I Love Hillary and Bill songs?” Have proof of donating to the Clinton Foundation of graft and theft? Pray tell, what will be the immigration qualifications that will put them ahead of the more deserving Mideast refugees?
ALSO
What will they do when they get here? How will the rest of us deplorable and other assorted peasants carry their water until they get “settled” in?
You’ve been living in Victoria for far, far too long.
This city’s langorous ambience has a habit of turning way too many “normal” people into left-wing wannabe grifters demanding more than their fair share of government largesse (welfare and grants), instead of actually trying to imrove the local, and increasingly costly, economy now featuring 386 square foot condos and apartments: closets with bathrooms attached.
Hope you’re wrong Marlene.
As for the future of the US. Indeed you’re right that the American Empire, from whence you derive all the things that you have ever held dear (excepting family and friends) is in huge trouble.
Too many guns. Not enough butter.
re I found it impossible to believe tens of millions of people would fall for political policies articulated in tweets and hastags, from a guy who brags about not paying taxes, admits to being a groper and promotes racial and religious intolerance. Trump has made outsiders feel like insiders because he legitimizes human prejudice and mainstreams bigotry.

“What’s disgusting about that? America was founded on Christian principles. The vast majority of Citizens are Christians. Why should they not want to keep it that way? We sure don’t see Muslims rushing to open churches in the Arab countries. Or the Hindus and Buddhists in Asia. Why should only Christians bend over?”
No it actually wasn’t. The make up of the country’s political landscape itself is based on Greek principles mostly. There is really nothing about the US government and political set up that has anything to do with “Christian Principles” (whatever that is).
It is even harder to figure out what “Christian Principles” actually are. The book that they rely on was written by people who lived hundreds of years after the death of their “Christ” figure (who may or may not have actually existed). It is more of an allegory than a historical record and the Christian “Christ” myth draws directly on earlier such myths, taking from them almost exactly. Anyone who has a look into it usually comes to the conclusion that likely no such person existed and the “Christian” religion is actually an ancient political set up which used a set of pre existing allegorical events to “govern” a primitive group of people, most of whom could not read or write and who understood things based on pictorial representation and oral presentation.
So no, the USA is not set up on “Christian” principles. It is set up to mirror Greek political principles and has nothing to do with the “Christ myth” allegorical system.
Well it was close to the end, had to stay up until 3 AM to see the big bellowing buffoon take the stage for his win. The interesting this was that last night the markets tanked until word came in that Hillery phoned to congratulate Orange Man for his win. If you saw his speech last night though it was like a different person had taken control of the big orange goof ball. Donald Trump actually spoke like a normal person. That speech is what calmed down the overseas markets. However if he keeps his word on all of those crazy commitments the USA is done! By the way he still has to deal with Trump University, multiple law suits and the fact that he has alienated half of the USA. Lets see how deep this guy can dig a grave for America. Can he create more jobs than the previous administration? Here is the facts.

Oh and for Smoking Turd you were right, you flipped the coin it was after all a 50/50 chance. Now that your permanently unemployable in the USA don’t worry my corporation is always looking for writers in the bathroom stalls.
People voted for change. Obviously, this blog is not visited by people who feels the world is passing them by, and who want to blame the “others” on their misfortune.
Anyhow, Jay Leno summed it best: “If God had wanted us to vote, he would have given us candidates.”
OK, can we go be to real estate now? Seriously thinking about crystallizing our real estate paper gains. I have almost convinced my hubby. Will probably test the market shortly. Hilliard Macbeth wrote a book about housing crash, very similar to Garth. Interestingly, he is also a portfolio manager.

Gartho is 60% of course!
Smoking Man we are all in awe!…. How could you have known?
I am so confused with markets today. Does anybody understand why they are up?
I expected crash…
I have been reading your blog for quite a while now. The comments section today hit a new low. The first sentence of today’s post was “I was wrong”. What followed in the comments section was essentially 1. That’s because you are stupid unlike me (“You fell for the mainstream media propaganda hook, line and sinker!”), 2. I tried to tell you (“Sorry Garth but we your beloved bloggers have been telling you this outcome for months”). 3. You think we are stupid (“People are not stupid Garth, it’s sad you believe that”). 4. You have been wrong before (“Yes Garth, you were wrong but hey it’s not like it didn’t happen before!!!”). 5. You disgust me (“Garth, you either try to fool us or you reading too much CBC. Either way it’s disgusting.”.
Everyone who “knew” Trump would win … where did you get this information from? You are really that good at reading the election? Better than just about everyone else?! Paid professionals? Wanting someone to win is a lot different than knowing someone will win.
Lastly, you do know that this is a financial blog right? The election was being covered as it relates to the markets. Why are you even reading and commenting on a blog that is written (according to you) by someone you feel is insulting you? Why waste your time? Do you not have anything better to do?
Trump has already shown some comforting signs he is just like every other BSing politician.
Last night he was conciliatory towards Hillary, not chanting “Lock Her Up”.
He spoke like a civilized human being for once! This shows that the campaign was all an act.
I think we can take comfort that he was lying all along just like all our politicians.
Now I can rest in comfort knowing all will be well!
There are no words. Today is a sad day for humanity. As a women I am distraught, angry, sad and fearful. … I will be forever changed by these realizations and this comment section gives me no hope.
Stop pretending you are a victim. There is no “Old Boyz club” or the patriarchy or some giant conspiracy to keep women down.
Success isn’t something that is doled out like welfare. If you want to be successful, you have to contribute something of value first. Don’t like the way men run your company? Start your own company. Feel you are being discriminated against by men at work? Go work somewhere else where women run the show. Or do your own thing. Quit blaming others for your failures. This is a free country. You already have every tool you need to succeed at your disposal. Quit whining and get to work. Or go live in the third world for some time to gain some perspective on how good you have it here. I know, I immigrated from one.
Truth is, society values women more than men. Eggs are rare, sperm is plentiful. It’s simple biology. Equality is a lie. The government’s job is to guarantee equal opportunity, not equal outcome. There is nothing Trump (or anyone else) can do to stop you from being successful. If you really want to that is.
Quit listening to the cat ladies. They are twisting your views and profiting at your expense. There is no wage gap, simply an earnings gap as men work more hours. In fact, men pick up a disproportionate share of the societal tab for most of the social benefits women receive, as they pay a lot more in taxes.
https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2375926
But hey, don’t let facts get in the way of your feelz. Lot easier to play the victim and blame someone else, right? Gawd our education system has fcked the minds our young.

On another note what a great night and a beautiful new day. Obama and Clinton with egg all over their faces, the news media sucking so hard it is embarassing. And my market investments are doing fantastic.
@Smokey
Love how the dawgs were all “We better not see you here if Trump loses”. And now that he has won, it’s “oh you just flipped a coin, it was 50/50 anyway.” That is one lucky coin if it came up the same way every time your posted about Trump.
Garth, thank you for continuing this thankless chore of a blog. I must admit I have not been reading it as religiously as I used to but rest assured I will continue to follow. Nothing against you, I always appreciate your effort and I know reading what you took the time to write is the least I can do to show my appreciation – I am simply currently focusing on more important things in life.
I must say that, with almost double the population of Canada voting for Trump, I have lost faith in humanity. Or maybe my understanding of humanity is simply misguided. Maybe the almost 60 million that voted for Trump are right and I am wrong. I know, more people that voted didn’t vote for him but that is still a lot of people that did. How can I say 60 million are wrong and I must be right? Who gets to claim the moral high ground in this case? I always try to be right and avoid being self-righteous.
I am not afraid of Trump. I am afraid of the millions of people that found it okay to vote for him.
Lastly, I made fun of my idol Smoking Man for predicting that Trump would win. I was wrong and he was right. I had faith in humanity and he obviously had a better understanding of it. To show my respect, I will read his book that I had no desire and intention to read. If someone can provide a link to a free pirated copy I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Wow what a market turnaround.
This was a vote against the status quo, by many, not necessarily FOR Trump. The demographic the democrats foolishly thought they could hold onto we’re the pro Sanders democrats and also black voters. Say whaaaatttt?
They thought blacks, who have been hunted for sport and tossed in private prisons, en masse, in the U.S under both administrations (ramped up under Bill Clinton, with the three strikes law) were going to vote for Hillary? What so many whites don’t get is that it couldn’t be worse for the poor the former middle class and blacks of all classes, RIGHT NOW.
If a black person is shot while walking down the street now, the only difference might be that under Teump, he might just be on his way to work!

Trump is a super scary fascist and yet, I understand why he was voted in and hope he does some good even if it is for all the wrong reasons.
If you believe that you watch to much TV. That narrative was painted by the evil and violent left loons.
Example he said ban all Muslims with out proper vetting. MSM he wants to ban all Muslims. The Internet has surpassed MSM.
As far as it being a landslide. It was, take away Soros voting machines, stuffed ballots and illegals voting it was a huge landslide.

Stock Markets up +288 points. S&P500 up 27 points. This from a 5% down (- 800 DOW fail stop) overnight.
Looks like the market love Trump now.
But don’t believe the hype, it is mostly short covering as the bond market is crashing behind the scenes.
As always, WAIT FOR CONFIRMATION before trading.
Timing the market DOES work or there would be no Technical Analysis’ around.
Cone of Silence:
How did we know of a potential upset?
Easy….3 steps. Read/Watch, think, decide.
Trump rallies have thousands of supporters.
Hillary rallies have hundreds. Even with high “contributing” people like Jay Z, his spouse beating wife, lady Gaga, and Katie Perry, and all the other well to do entertainers living off the masses giving their free concerts in support of Hillary…still low attendance. Everyone endorsing Hillary are well off (eg. Lebron James…you may be black but you haven’t represented the urban Clevland voter in quite sometime).
Add in all the negative Trump stories while wikileak stories are barely mentioned.
People are not stupid. They see the double standard.

_____
LMAO, there’s always at least one historian/theologian “expert” in every group. I thought folks gave up on revisionist $hit like this in the late 90’s.
Hey, while were on the topic of historical revisionism, why don’t you tell me about how black African Negros built the pyramids?
I have looked at videos concerning Hitler’s rise to power promising the Germans what they wanted to hear and the crowds went wild with expectations for a New Germany. A few nights ago watched Trump and the crowds carefully as he promised them everything for the New America under his leadership. Does history repeat itself? I don’t know as guess we will have to wait and see.

I was appalled at the amount of deletions and slip throughs that passed the censors to see his awful behavior last night.
A more anonymous person would have been permanently removed much sooner by you.
Given his penchant with alcohol and boasting that in his words, ‘I’m not going anywhere’ unfortunately makes you an enabler Garth.
You will take offense at that statement but it doesn’t make it any less true. I’ve been married to an alcoholic and have learned hard lessons. Allowing him to continue to post lowers the quality of your blog and wonderful writing. Last night this blog was pathetic in more ways than one.
Unfortunately you will not post this, that I am certain and it will continue. You will make snide remarks making the situation sadder than it is.

Instead of wasting digital ink on books, you should use your writing skills to come up with catchy slogans like “Lock her up!” for our Canadian politicians. How about “can you say cheeesy” with a pic of T2 taking a selfie? Wynne till you’re green. You get the idea, I’m sure you could do better. Maybe print them on t-shirts and sell them to the blog dawgs.
Sitting in small town northern Michigan right now.
Went to a large local bar last night for some adult beverages to watch the nights events unfold. The hangover was worth it. Between patrons chanting “lock her up” when Hillary’s mug was on the big screen, to raucous cheering and screaming every time Trump’s lead grew, it was a fun night.
At my client’s office this morning everyone is in an awesome mood……high fives all around, and an air that a new day has dawned seems apparent in everyone’s jaunt as they move thru their workday.
The best part of my day however, has been watching the apoplectic left wing liberal media talking heads literally explode all over the airwaves and internet.

It’ll be a good show for sure.
I see Wynne is setting up a pilot program for a basic income. A single mom with 2 kids gets 35K a year and can work on top with no clawback. I think T2 really cranked the CCB for the “one parent, two kids” segment as well. These single moms with 2 kiddies could be making out like bandits here shortly.
I doubt Wynne is making any adjustments to spending to compensate, so this side of beef will be another tax and billions more a year in debt.
I’m glad I’m slashing my tax remittance thru various efforts. Everyone should be looking at doing something to pay less.
#357 Love My Kia,
You are obviously unaware that Smoking Man is from outer space. He knows things the rest of us don’t. Listen to him and learn.
I think Garth needs to give Smoking Man a paid position just like the other two guys that write on weekends.
Congratulations Smoking Man! Your prognosticator is sharp!
The bond market is taking a pounding which is good because rates are rising.
Ready to pay an extra $1,000 to $2,000 a year in the short term and an extra $5,000 to $10,000 a year for your mortgage and other debts. It is coming.
This way the lefties all in debt will have to pay more. Mortgage rates and other lending rates will rise in the next few days to weeks. They hate Trump anyway so it does not matter.

Trump mobilized former non-voters in a way that the pollsters didn’t expect. I did the survey, and I said Trump would win. I am stoked at the amount of ridiculous hand-wringing that the Liberal/SJW politically correct crowd is doing right now. The shots from Hillary’s event last night with crying staffers were gold. The fact that the Orange One beat her is testament to how deeply flawed she is personally as a candidate, and how sick Americans are of the establishment. I occasionally break into laughter thinking of all the sadness of HRC supporters. What a night.

Speeding tickets for bicycles? They may as well just have the cops walk up to folks waiting in line to pay for their groceries and have them just grab a handful of cash right out of their wallets. Obviously they’ve got a serious revenue problem.
The eventual reality in France is probably going to be terminal decreases in labour participation rates, and an unstoppable spiral downwards for government revenue. The economy is total crap, government owns the voting base, and benefits for the unemployed are very generous.
The Ontario libs are soon to start a pilot project on a basic income scheme. Details are slim, but a single parent (coughmothercough) with two kids would get 35,000.00/yr. any disability payments would go on top. Plus you can work some too with minimal to no clawback. The median individual income in Canada right now is less than 30,000.00. You can see where this is headed. But the Libs would never expect that a plan like this could be abused.
Ontario is much like France, two lead lined bingbat governments headed for a deep lake in parallel.

@ IHCTD9 Late reply, but it’s been a busy two days.
When you say the 250k 2 bdrm in T.O is even worse investment than the 1 mil detached, I agree with you , but do you catch the faulty logic? Those who complain a ‘roof over their heads’ costs too much also deny the value of R.E. as an investment. So they should be happy taking the roof that costs 75% less. To accept the value of RE as investment, necessarily leads you to accept current prices as a result of that thinking.

I did not think this was possible. I underestimated him. I overestimated humanity.

Isn’t this statement a little on the judgmental side? I didn’t vote for Trump because he frankly scares me; I voted instead for Gary Johnson. But I know people who did vote for Trump, not because they liked him, but because they objected so much to Hillary’s policies that they in all good conscience felt they had to do everything they could to keep Hillary out of the White House, and in their minds that meant they had to vote for Trump, the lesser of two evils.
By the way, Jill Stein, the presidential candidate of the Green Party, said that Hillary was the more dangerous candidate of the two because she was calling for a no-fly zone in Syria, which means essentially declaring war on Russia. She said with 2,000 nuclear weapons between the U.S. and the Russians, this would be a mushroom cloud waiting to happen…
