Hallelujah

pray-modified

Well, that was a slam dunk. There are now two key confirmations Hillary Clinton will be the next big poohbah of the USA once the pesky issue of voting is out of the way Tuesday night.

First, the stock market says so. The Dow soared the better part of 400 points on Monday, gold crashed, and traders threw caution to the wind like a soiled Make American Great Again ball cap. Wall Street always did think the woman would prevail, but hedged its bets when the FBI reopened its email hunt. When that passed Sunday, so did all doubt. Risk on, baby!

Second, GreaterFool readers say so. By a decisive margin. Not even close.

On Sunday voting was open at this pathetic blog’s cheesy little booth for most of the day, until our cap of 3,000 was reached. The results were consistent from start to finish. HRC by a landslide, winning the lioness’s of the popular vote, 65% to 35%. The biggest advantage she has going for her, apparently, is that she’s not Donald Trump.

poll-1

And what happens Tuesday night when Clinton actually wins (as readers here are convinced she shall)? Will Trump sulk and whine, call out the system and claim he wuz robbed? Maybe. Depends on the closeness of the final tally both in overall votes cast and the Electoral College results. But clearly denizens of this blog think he should shove a rag in it.

poll-2

So who were these three thousand readers we allowed to vote, and rush to support the first female POTUS over the billionaire, red-meat dude? A bunch of rabid young women feminazis who would put gender ahead of stuff like economic policy?

As it turns out, not so much. The voters were embarrassingly male (86%), with about a third in their thirties, and close to half in their forties and fifties.

poll-3

And what about the money status, or political leanings of these GreaterFool posters? Well, an interesting snapshot here. The largest segment of voters are in the ‘middle class’ income bracket of fifty grand to $100,000, with 37% earning between a hundred and two hundred (still middle class). Equal numbers earn less than $50,000 and greater than $200,000. As for political affiliation, not a lot of lefties among us – over 43% say they vote Conservative here in the frozen north, and 36% are Libs.

poll-4

In conclusion, yesterday a bunch of conservative-leaning, blog-addled, middle-class dudes gave a two-to-one endorsement of the woman that the American right has spent months painting as a criminal witch. Now imagine what a nation filled with diversity and 50% women will do tomorrow.

Yup. The stock cowboys nailed it.

Haha what I’m saying….Kanadians tire of paying over $30 for burger and beer including tip and tax at banal chains:
…………………
Globe says Boston Pizza sees tightwads ordering water.

The Globe and Mail reports in its Monday edition that diners are buying fewer drinks when they eat out, squeezing a line of business that has traditionally been a strong profit centre for restaurateurs. The Globe’s Marina Strauss writes that many restaurant-goers are instead simply asking for tap water. Both soft and alcoholic drinks tend to enjoy low production costs and high margins. “We’ve noticed the declines,” said Helen Langford at Boston Pizza International, which has 379 outlets across Canada. “Even though our guests are saying they’re doing it because of health, there are people who are just saving money. They’ll just order tap water.” Beverage orders have been declining by about 5 per cent a year for the past four years, resulting in a $75-million loss in revenues for eateries in the past year alone, according to researcher NPD Group. Alcohol orders have dropped about 3 per cent over that same period, it found. Tap water orders have been going up at a rate of 4 per cent a year. Over all, consumers are heading to restaurants less frequently, down 2 per cent a year over the past four years, to 131 visits a person so far this year. Orange juice is now overtaking Coke as the top drink ordered.

Interesting, the majority of voters were in the $50-100k bracket of income, but in your prior poll this fall, they had millions in assets, i.e. clearly the top 1%! Of course, we could have had a different batch of pollsters each time…

#20 John on 11.07.16 at 6:27 pm

Not surprising. Most Canadians detest Trump for the one simple reason: the media told them too. Trump had one too many foot in the mouth moments that the media used to paint him as a bigot and madman – not to mention the host of this blog. I would imagine if this were a poll on the issues such as the economy, illegal immigrantion, trade deals, globalism, etc. the result would be incredibly inline with Trump’s views. It’s a shame really. A biased media’s character assassination may stop our friends south of the border from the real political change needed.

The biggest shock will come from the silent majority. Or the cowardly majority.

Let’s face it, there is a big social stigma to be openly supporting trump if you’re from a big city, or a woman, or a minority.

I’ve polled Americans in the Chairman lounge when they are sober. “They both suck,” they say.

After a few drinks, you ask again, you come off being In the trump camp, they spill their guts. Trump all the way with pride.

This is what people will be studying for years to come after the landslide favoring Trump.

#42 jennaru on 11.07.16 at 7:10 pm

Happy to see the results, but as a left-of-centre woman, I admit I’m disappointed to see the breakdown of who voted. Perhaps this is truly an indication of the demographic who reads the blog regularly, or at least reads it within 24 hours of being posted. (I certainly hope female readers make up more than 14% of readership; the info is too valuable not to have). Maybe it’s just because the women readers, like me, juggle a full time job and a greater share of household responsibilities than my male counterparts and don’t have time to read every post within a day and, also like me, didn’t see the post until long after the poll closed.

Either way, I have a few comments for the right winged dudes that seem to make up the majority of this blog’s readership: share it! And share it widely! With your wives, mothers, daughters and female friends and colleagues. Guess what? We women can understand it; we manage far more complex matters on a regular basis and tend to take on more of them at a time then men thanks to us juggling work and home responsibilities. I’ve seen a lot of whining comments on here about wives who just don’t get the risks when their husbands try to explain it to them, and want to spend all of the household income on a house in TO or YVR, to which I say: Oh please. Stop blaming your wife. You should both have equal knowledge on these matters, so read the blog with her or insist she read it and become an equal partner in your houses finances. This of course doesn’t mean that you’ll always agree on spending, but at least you’ll have the same education. And if you married a spendthrift, well, you made your own bed. Good luck with that.

#50 nonplused on 11.07.16 at 7:18 pm

I’m still going to watch the election tomorrow because I don’t see how a poll of 3000 Canadians who managed to vote in another Trudeau could possibly be an indicator of how Texas or any other US state will actually vote. Except maybe California, but we already know how they are going to vote. That’s where Lockheed-Martin is based. They always vote for war.

Also the fact that you got 3000 votes in a couple of hours when normally you get around 200 comments seems to me like some teenager with a bot spammed your system. We all know your readers are all upper middle class or rich people like Smoking Man professes to be but suddenly your demographic went “mainstream”.

There are 3 types of falsehoods: Lies, damn lies, and statistics. Polls fall into the later. The only polls that are remotely accurate are exit polls. “How did you vote?” This type of poll actually tests the people who showed up and did something they don’t need to lie about.

I say this is still the most unpredictable election in US history, and that’s saying a lot. You can’t deny that when Trumps stages a rally, no matter how big the venue, they have to turn people away due to fire codes. When Hillary stages a rally, they have to bus people in to look like there is a crowd. I guarantee everyone who went to a Trump rally, even if they didn’t get in, will turn out to vote. Whereas Hillary will have to bus people to the voting stations like she had to do with her rallies. And the media is not helping, the more they say Hillary is a slam dunk the more Hillary voters will stay home and the more Trump’s supporters will come out.

The FBI statement today was more electioneering and doesn’t change anything. And all they really said was that they haven’t changed their position as of now. All they’ve had time to do so far is a “key word” search.

Anyway hopefully we’ll be able to watch it on TV, what with the Russians planning to hack the internet and all. Great Fool will probably be off-line tomorrow due to those pesky Russian hackers. (PS for those who don’t get sarcasm, I don’t think there is any way the Russians would actually hack a US election or the internet or anything else in the middle of a US election. If they got caught, the consequences would be just too great. And anyway what would it accomplish? The US would figure it out eventually and reverse it, and then be really, really mad. Not good for Russia. Even if it turned out to be some lone teenager in an apartment in Russia acting without state support the Russians would arrest him, to not do so would be unthinkably damaging. If there is a hack and disruption, it’s probably coming from within the US. Probably from Google. They have the resources.)

Anyway, I expect riots no matter who wins, so I’m glad I’m not there right now.

#51 Toronto1 on 11.07.16 at 7:21 pm

Trump is going to win it by a hair, maybe by 1% enough not to warrent a recount but a divided mandate for sure.

Love the picture of the day! Hope the actual election results reflect the poll. There are many things I don’t get about Trump, but the one that baffles me the most is that he actually does have people who support him. This is a guy who by all accounts would label most if not all of his supporters as ‘losers’ & whose own lifestyle etc. is so far removed from theirs he may as well be from another planet. How & why any of these folks think he isn’t elitist or a member of the 1% or would behave in a manner that would benefit them if elected makes me think they have all of them lost their collective marbles.

As promised dogs.
I just published my first book ever today. Nov, 7th 2016

Suffering as a hardcore Dyslexic all of my life, I don’t read much. I hope no one faults me for taking six damn years to write the beast, a 100-page fiction novel with a few flaws. I even edit it myself. The grammar nazis will be out to crucify me no doubt.

I will only admit to taking 12 trips to Las Vegas in the last six years, with each trip writing two chapters. There may have been a few more but I will never admit to it.

Needless to say, it’s a ridiculous book. Each chapter was written when completely hammered out of my mind using my two thumbs on a word doc on my phone.

I’m graying faster than I want, writing is going to have to work for me in a few years.

I’m doomed, I know.

But the whole point is and lesson, never feels like a victim, never blame others because you’re afraid to try something new. You all can do anything you set your minds too. You just got to do it.

Today I achieved an imposable dream. I wrote and published a ridiculous book that I’m very proud of. Six years ago I could barely read or write.

Thanks for inspiring me dogs. Special shout out to Garth for allowing me to grow on here and to Gut Check who did the cover.

#69 Toronto Best City to Invest on 11.07.16 at 8:03 pm

Purchase your home in Toronto before prices rise!

Hilary Clinton becoming President will help turn Ontario into a superpower manufacturing and technological innovation hub which will make Silicon Valley look like the class dunce.

I am a real estate agent who can tell you that detached houses in Toronto are scarce that my clients are willing to offer at least $100,000 above asking for the initial bid.

You are never going to get a detached home in Toronto for less than a million. Period.

Buy now before it’s too late! I have clients from Iraq, China and Saudi Arabia purchasing entire floors of condo units in downtown Toronto for above asking, on average $650,000 per 1 bedroom condominium unit. Toronto is a popular world-class city that we attract foreign investors which are willing to invest their hard earned money from China and the Middle East on our beautiful city.

If you can’t afford at least $500,000 for a condo in Toronto, you are poor! You should rent rather than buy. House prices are not going lower in Toronto. Our city is becoming more developed than Manhattan, that I am proud that Canada elected a leader who respects the rights of women. We should all be feminists.

When you give women equal opportunities like in Toronto, our city grows and becomes a popular destination.

Toronto is the best city in the world.

I was surprised (shocked even!) that nearly 74% of respondents to Garth’s poll do not believe that the US electoral system is rigged. It most certainly is (or at least has been)!
Earlier this year Congressman Debbie Wasserman Schultz was forced to resign as the Democratic National Committee chairwoman after emails came to light showing that she and other top DNC officials sought to discredit and defeat candidate Bernie Sanders in the primaries and rig the DNC National Convention in favour of Hillary Clinton.
Now it can be argued that this was an isolated incident. However, the phrase “there is never just one cockroach in the kitchen” comes to mind.

#83 AsiaKid on 11.07.16 at 8:36 pm

It’s no shock that your poll would lean heavily towards HRC. In general, regardless of wealth, greaterfool readers are exactly that – readers. On a daily basis, we read your posts, go through comments and form – generally -object, reasonable opinions or conclusions. If anyone were to do the same with HRC and Trump, while we would like neither, there will be few who would still want to vote Trump as we dig through his past and read the inconsistencies between his various statements.

Also, most of us are canadians. Believe stats also suggest (there was a recent poll forgot from which company) that shows that HRC would be first followed by Jill Stein..with Trump coming in third (or fourth).

Basically, while this poll is nice affirmation, its nowhere near statistically useful because the pool itself is inaccurate.

But, I do hope and think HRC will win.

In Oregon, Clinton led the polls by +15 points, and she lost the state by more than -10 points. Underperf 25 pts

In Arizona, Clinton led the polls by +30 points, and she only won by +17 points. Underperf. 13 pts.

In Indiana, Clinton led the polls by +6.8 points, and she lost the state by -5 points. Underperf. 11.8 pts.

In North Carolina, Clinton led the polls by +24 points, and she only won by +13. Underperf. 11 pts

In New Hampshire, Sanders led the polls by only +13.3 points, and on election day he won the state by +22.4 points. OVERperf. 9.1

…..still believe the accuracy of the Clinton supporting MSN polls?

Even ‘Mr FiveEightThirty’ Nate Silver is trying to maintain credibility in the last couple of days saying Clinton only has to lose one State to blow it.

Right now this is the only place you can get it.

No surprises. A bunch of Canadians who are fed a steady diet of CBC propaganda elected to choose the “preferred candidate”.

We are so smart, I mean look at the great leader we just elected.

Anyways,

Don’t worry everyone your fake stock gains, which were brought to you by nothing but “stimulus”, will continue. So will the fake recovery and fake rate hike threats. The trillion dollars of debt will just disappear and you can keep your head in the sand a little longer.

……Until the next Trump comes along to fill void of frustration that was tapped into and will be mounting higher and higher if he loses. This time the next Trump will have very radical far right ideas that surpass normal levels of nationalism and are dangerous. This time around he/she is very eloquent, persuasive and charming, easily luring in the disenfranchised as well as the unsuspecting.

That is what a lot of Clinton supporters are oblivious to I find. Trump is allowing frustration to be vented, yet he is also peaceful and readable. I believe he actually does want to improve the US. Nothing wrong with Hillary but she is more of the same that people are sick of. A win for her does nothing to improve the situation.

But hey, the Dow jones went up 1% today so who cares.

#38 Chopper Dude on 11.07.16 at 6:54 pm

Yeah right. As much as you would like to see someone else prevail, if the US had it’s back against the wall and full support from it’s populace it could obliterate whatever country challenges it militarily. It may seem like the US has a lot of emasculated leftist liberal men but it is only that way because they are the most vocal. The silent majority is different.

Hate to rain on your parade Hillary supporters but the Electoral College is all that matters and it favours Trump.

From the ABC news poll out today that shows Hillary leading 47 – 43…..

“In Trump’s corner, he holds a 49 to 42 percent advantage among likely voters who live in one of six key battleground states: Colorado, Florida, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada and Ohio. Recent state-level surveys suggests each of these states is a tossup heading into Election Day.”

Hope you have “balanced” portfolios because if Trump carries these battleground states as the ABC poll predicts you will be seeing a market bloodbath on Wednesday morning.

Cheers.

Instead of looking at fantasy scenarios like Garth’s poll look at what is happening on the ground.

Trump is in Michigan tonight for the second time in two days. Hillary has headed back there to defend a solidly blue state and is also sending in the big guns ie; Obama is in Michigan.

The Hillary plan was to end the campaign by squeezing Trump in North Carolina and Florida. How the tables have turned. Trump is ahead in both NC and FL and is squeezing HRC on her home turf of MI PA VA.

Also she just cancelled her fireworks show scheduled for NYC tomorrow night to celebrate her coronation.

538 polling guru Nate Silver has also just confirmed that HRC is one flipped blue state away from losing the election. There is no doubt she has bungled the last two weeks of the campaign. That what happens when arrogance breeds complacency and your opponent has a never say die attitude.

You are totally right, small entrepreneurs are totaly milked but Canada will be in the same trouble if Liberal or NDP are elected in the next ten years. Regarding the situation in France, the free UE trade agreement has made the big companies wealthier and wealthier, while we have get competition from for exemple Romanian companies whose labor cost is around 10 euros/hours where ours is around 15 euros so on a big construction project we just sit unemployed watching the Romanians works ! Why is #68 allowed to spam their feminazi version of RE trolling, but Smoking Man is viewed as a spammer for self-promoting his book?
Funny how feminazis working in Toronto real estate would support laws to increase surveillance on men for feminazi causes, but any laundered money from China or from an ISIS stronghold is accepted by this feminazi realtor scum.

In the next ten years, Toronto will become a Communist-SHERIA law city…Not Sharia law, SHERIA LAW!!!!….

I’m amazed that there isn’t a Marxist revolution in Toronto as yet with these “foreign investors” and feminazi Millennials overpricing the housing market in Toronto.

I guess that feminazis are only “Marxists” when it comes to dismantling the white hetero male patriarchy…Other than that, some ex-ISIS member or child trafficker from Asia comes to Canada with dirty money is greeted with open arms by the same feminazis who allege that capitalism is built on dirty money and that all men are rapists.

Oh, the irony. I, for one, will not let a feminazi put more laws to infringe on my freedoms while they welcome dirty money with open arms. I’m voting Trump.

There are deep divisions, perhaps fractures in the US today. In 1860, Lincoln was elected on November 6. In those days, Inauguration was in March. Now it occurs on January 20. Between Lincoln’s election and Inauguration, 7 Southern states seceded from the Union.

HRC will be the next President and some rhyming will take place. Not secession, but real unrest.

#109 Concerned Parent on 11.07.16 at 9:31 pm

Forgetting to mention that the co-author of Kathleen Wynne’s pornographic Sexual Education curriculum is currently in prison for online trolling at pedophile forums.

Isn’t it a bit strange that certain elected politicians and teachers who have access to kids by law, will force down an explicit Sexual Education program, yet if a male on campus at Uof T, Ryerson, George Brown, Seneca, etc was to say hello to a female on campus, he could be arraigned for sexual harassment?

It seems strange that the government in Ontario wants teachers to talk about penises and vulvas to 5-year-old infants, yet if an 18-year-old male on campus says anything which could be misinterpreted as sexual to another 19-21 year-old female at the same campus, his punishment process is far worse than a convicted sex offender who raped babies in a nursery.

Ben Levin got only 12 months concurrent prison time for a variety of offenses relating to child luring and storing child pornography, but a male student on campus gets barred from campus for 3 academic semesters or more if he is “convicted” of sexual harassment in a Kangaroo campus tribunal.

I wouldn’t want a teacher, male or female, talking about pornographic content to my 5-year-old child, but the sheeple in Ontario would prefer their child to be taking sexual with their teachers than to even be interacting with peers of the opposite sex on campuses in Canada. It’s a Brave New World.

“Hallelujah”
Leonard Cohen

I’ve heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don’t really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Baby I have been here before
I know this room, I’ve walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you.
I’ve seen your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

There was a time when you let me know
What’s really going on below
But now you never show it to me, do you?
And remember when I moved in you
The holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Maybe there’s a God above
But all I’ve ever learned from love
Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you
It’s not a cry you can hear at night
It’s not somebody who has seen the light
It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

You say I took the name in vain
I don’t even know the name
But if I did, well, really, what’s it to you?
There’s a blaze of light in every word
It doesn’t matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasn’t much
I couldn’t feel, so I tried to touch
I’ve told the truth, I didn’t come to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
I’ll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

It Trump wins there will be unrest as the “tolerant” Liberals start forming mobs, destroying property, and beating people who are “bigoted/racist/chauvinistic” because they voted for Trump. The Liberals of your youth are NOT the Liberals of today, and many people are rebelling. Go to a College or University with a red MAGA hat on and see what happens if you don’t believe me.

When a root beer and A & W costs $400.00 they will publish official statistics still saying inflation is only 1% (because the basket leaves out: housing, gas, food and anything else we depend on to live). Like Ryan posted this weekend, the stimulus has less and less of an effect as time goes on. I think everyone knows there will be a massive correction at some point.

Let’s take off our rose coloured glasses for a minute.

Best case scenario for HRC right now is she manages to hang on to MI and PA. State polls show she is teetering on the edge of losing both states. In fact two polls that came out today show Trump leading in both.

Don’t forget both MI and PA do not have early voting. Early voting is a huge advantage to the Democrats as they have an incredible get out the vote campaign as seen in the early results for NC and FL. Basically they have a week to bus all the lower income minorities to the polls. Republicans tend to vote on election day.

So this built in buffer for the Democrats does not exist in MI and PA.

Why would traditional blue states like MI and PA flip red? Hello NAFTA and goodbye MI Auto Plants. Hello Climate Change and goodbye PA coal mining and fracking.

People are scared and have nothing to lose. If one of MI or PA flip then Hillary becomes yesterdays news.

Also this is just one path for Trump to gain the White House. There are others that are more traditional for Republicans but the fact that we are even discussing the above path would have been considered heresy just two weeks ago.

This election is quite simple.

American macroeconomics are fine, so those enjoying them will vote for the status quo and HRC.

Those living with the microeconomics of job loss or low pay will vote for the man who has spoken to their problems and how he’d solve them, DJT.

Everything else is just noise The side with the bigger battalions wins.

Trump is the change candidate. People hate change, even the MSM, so it no surprise to see the hysterical reactions and end of the world predictions of a Trump win.

I find it amusing how Trump at 70 years old is the worlds greatest existential threat when last year at this time he was just minor celebrity trying to make a buck like the rest of us.

I have been to many job interviews in my life. Mastering them has been crucial for any chance of promotion or job offer. The one question that comes up 100% of the time are related to “change”. People hate change; companies know it and screen for it.

I remember not that long ago many were predicting that a Brexit would destabilize and crash the global economy. Where are we now, what happened? Yawn…

Most disturbing poll result is that 1/4 of respondents are conspiracy nuts who believe the US election is rigged.

Conspiracy nut = someone so afraid of chaos that they have concoct a narrative to counter it, no matter how improbable.

Hopefully, some of the respondents were just having a laugh rather than being frightened idiots.

Sampling Canadians is like sampling people in Seattle, WA or Chicago, IL.

The US is far more rural and de-centralized and those salt of the Earth type people, who feed the festering masses that live in the air-conditioned urban bubbles, distanced from nature and reality, are a sizable chunk of the US electorate.

Your poll Garth, is no different than any other conducted in an urban area in the US. City people are bred to be timid and reliant on services, employment, food and shelter.

States which have been considered “safe” are up for grabs, NC, PA, CO, NV, they’re already calling Florida for Trump.

Trump is the worst kind of businessperson:

“The USA TODAY team analyzed information from the past three decades, uncovering evidence of over 3,500 lawsuits against Trump’s companies.
As journalist Steve Reilly summarized, “The actions … paint a portrait of Trump’s sprawling organization frequently failing to pay small businesses and individuals, then tying them up in court and other negotiations for years …
The Trump teams financially overpower and outlast much smaller opponents, draining their resources.”

Laugh or cry, I’ll take laughing. Missed the Fool poll but my real sealed deal vote went to the 5%guy Johnson even tho he’s easily argued as more of a doofus thhttp://www.mostdamagingwikileaks.com/n Trump is a buffoon. Just couldnt bring myself to go with The Devil or Her Brother, altho I’m Repub upbringing. That being said I must say after discovering this blog there was a teensy part of me who almost hoped HRC would win solely because of fear of confrontation (all this global volatility) and because I would like to be able to “get ahead financially” after reading /learning so much here. Goes to show the power of money. Ya cant take it with you.

I act a lot on principle, you can say I threw the vote away but I’d rather have a part in trying to make a difference in future elections since the electoral college prevails anyway. The way things are shaping up any hope of future elections may not matter. I realize the demographic of balanced portfolios here is why there’s such a majority of HRC support but… truly I grieve for mankind. Maybe, just maybe, this is the best result that can happen for America today.

Democrats win and get control of congress to make it easier and with less excuses to get some policies passed as they seem currently to be the more unified and more organized party.

The Republicans dust themselves off and refocus as a group and come back to the ring in 2020 in better shape, rebuilt to a certain extent, more unified and being able to say that they aren’t to blame for holding things up if the Democrats don’t do what the people expected of them.

Or the current scenario continues and not much changes…

I see the Trump phenomena as a new standard in the West. As long as economic growth is dead, and the prospects for the future remain dim – there will be Trumps the world over. If the working class goes forward again with nothing to gain, and nothing left to lose – Trumpism will be alive and well in 4 years. If the well educated Western youth keep on with 30+% unemployment, no assets, no savings, no pension – I expect they might eventually get pissed enough to throw a political hand grenade thru the window alongside all the unemployed GM line workers.

Western folks are seeing their decline, and blaming globalism and their leadership, it’s only a matter of time before they become the voting majority.

My nephew “23 years old” went to the Donald trump Rally last night in Grand Rapids. Long line ups at Devos Place in the cool evening. He got in. So my sister texts me this morning with what her son heard at the rally. Apparently Donald Trump is going to bring thousands of heavy industry jobs back to the area. Apparently Donald Trump is going to get rid of immigrants. Apparently Donald Trump is going to cut taxes “huge”. Apparently Donald Trump is going to cancel Obama Care and replace it? “With what”? Apparently Donald Trump is the only one who can make America Great again. This is what a young 23 year old man from the Grand Rapids area hears. But the most important thing he got out of it is Donald Trump’s Russian wife is hot. “Shes not a Russian but a Slovenian.” My sister is almost in tears that Trumps messages are not clear and truthful. She said she is truly afraid of the things that he has filled young impressionable peoples heads with. I texted her back to ask what the demographics were like but her son didn’t pay attention to that, but all of his friends who dropped out of collage, were unemployed or were just generally mad at the world blaming every one except themselves for their current situation were there. Her last text to me an hour ago was I’m going to vote and pray for us.

Well, good morning and happy election day, smoking idiot and all your fellow Trumpsuckers!
I hope you solved that technical glitch – some cowardly emasculated turd hacked your profile here and was running away from my modest challenge. (I knew that would be hard for you to solve, since you know nothing about coding computers, forex or writing, lol!)
So….once again, smokie, put up or shut up:
Trump wins, I go away and never post here again.
Clinton wins, you go away and never post here again.
Be a man, not a wussy.
Clock is ticking…….

Now, now James was that a can of paint in your hand?
Smoking Man has told us he has been tagged by the anti Trump graffiti satirists. So inquiring minds need to know James can you paint? We all know Smoking Twit lives on James Street on the corner with a broken down pickup truck and a dog chained up in the front yard to a cinder block.

Whatever happens in this election the “people are pissed” factor can no longer be ignored. MSM no longer is the propaganda arm that it used to be. The internet has the ability to create “revolution” conditions in a matter of days. Less time it seems, in the USA, after a shooting.

I am hopeful (sort of) that the USA can pick their next President and move on to fixing their nation.

God help us if they elect Trump.

#198 Don Der on 11.08.16 at 10:40 am

Grandma Nixon will win the election. Man have you people ever been hoodwinked. She was selected as president when….she won the NY state as Governor. The election is not being rigged…it’s been “pre-determined” – we all like the bravado of Trump but it’s wordspeak from both camps.

Canada / USA elections are like asking little Suzy who she wants for her babysitter tonight. Little Suzy gets to select either Devic, or Bencze. That’s politics!

….’nuff said.

Some days I think that ” the powers that be” gave Trump instructions to not hold back on ridiculous and inflammatory statements. Perhaps, bonus money in the form of tax breaks if he can deflect the attention of the World from what the hell is happening.

The Middle East is a mess and it is getting worse.

Mosul is going to be bad. Expect human shields and human meals.
Eastern Europe is getting all powder keggy as well.

Vancouver home building skids sharply as new rules take steam out of market

http://business.financialpost.com/personal-finance/mortgages-real-estate/vancouver-leads-declines-in-new-home-construction-in-october-cmhc

The Vancouver region, already facing a massive decline in activity of resale homes, is now facing a slowdown in new home construction.

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. statistics out Tuesday for housing starts show the British Columbia market numbers falling fast, a development that comes in the wake of new mortgage financing rules from Ottawa that went into effect Oct. 17 and a new foreign property transfer tax of 15 per cent that came into play Aug. 2.

“British Columbia is the big story, with starts falling sharply to 27,600 (on a seasonality adjusted annualized basis) after pushing record levels, north of 50,000 at one point, earlier in the year. October’s tally brings activity back down to the very stable, and fundamentally supported, range seen between 2010 and mid-2015, before activity broke out to the upside,” Robert Kavcic, senior economist with Bank of Montreal.”

It’s pretty sad when the best you can say about the leading candidate in the presidential race is that she is not the big goofball Trump. How many would actually vote for her based on her record, her policies, her personal integrity (!), etc?

The conspiracy-minded might say that Trump ended up as the Republican candidate as the only way to ensure that one of the least liked leading presidential candidates that I can remember – Hilary Clinton – would be elected. That’s the way the uni-party likes it.

The reasons that so many were willing to consider (or even embrace) Trump as an outsider in politics are still present. The system is still essentially corrupted and not responsive to the needs or wants of the vast majority of the electorate. I hope next time around an actual viable candidate who represents real change may appear. I can’t say that I’ll be too sorry to see Trump not elected, but I also can’t say that I’m in any way enthusiastic about having Clinton win. 4 more years (likely) of the same failed policies, identity politics, and the same foreign-affairs disasters (hello, Libya?).

#209 GTA Up Up Up on 11.08.16 at 1:10 pm

GTA house price increases have a significant amount of steam and will move much higher in the coming years.

Contemplate this. If foreign capital had a negligible impact on Vancouver’s average $1.5 million house as is still touted in some circles (cough), then FOMO and locals pushed house prices to the stratosphere.

But Vancouver has a lower average family income than the GTA; a less diversified economy; and less migrants and immigrants coming in per capita.

You are finally seeing the next phase of house price increases in the GTA with super low inventory, bidding wars, and massive price appreciation – all apparently driven by FOMO and locals.

Only Smoking Man predicted 1.5 years ago that the GTA had a lot more room to appreciate – and he was right – it was gone way way up. The variables impacting price appreciation are way better for TO now than Vancouver and there is simply no reason why prices cannot match or surpass Vancouver’s. TO will continue to see the ‘Vancouverization’ of its market.

And lets not think that the new mortgage rules will actually do anything to this market – they are simply one more in a long line of toothless measures introduced since 2008 to ostensibly ‘cool’ the market. Nothing has ‘cooled’ the market as when the government tightens one screw then loosen a few others.

Uh oh, looks like the highly wished for glut of new builds to depress prices has to take a back seat again. Another hope dashed for the bears.

It reminds me of a few years ago when everyone was predicting the 50,000 new condos coming online in the GTA would swamp the market and put downward pressure on prices. Wrong again…

#214 };-) aka Devil's Advocate on 11.08.16 at 2:16 pm

And back to real estate.

Don’t expect any big price reductions. Hey I am as surprised as you but it just isn’t gonna happen.

Price out a new build. Prices have gone through the roof. And in that sector they are EXTREMELY sticky on the way down.

Yes everybody it seems is sitting on the fence waiting to see how things play out. Foriegn Buyer Tax, Stress Test Mortgage Rules, Strangest election ever down South. And all this comes just before the traditional Winter slow down.

Same thing happened last year. Everybody it seems put on the breaks waiting for the black swan that never materialized. Then came Spring and all Hell broke loose. The pent up demand from the months before hit the market like I’ve never seen before. We all were witness to it. And now prices are where they are.

Greater fools? They who just bought or they who wait lusting for a market tank?

I sense we are headed into a repeat of the last year… for the first six months anyway. Beyond that is anyone’s guess. No I don’t have a crystal ball just experience and to my best thinking the best way to predict the future is to track the past.

The human race is insane and the definition of insane, as you know, is to continue doing what you did expecting a different result.

That said Hillary wins.

#215 Context on 11.08.16 at 2:48 pm

The Mexican peso is showing a strong win for Hillary at 18.43 against the USD, but if Trump should win, the peso will jump to 22.00 against the USD in a panic. I am well hedged.

Yes. Jillary/James, you exhibit the normal behavior of all the Lefty loony tunes. A pathological refusal to look at the “facts/data/ideas/proof/sane thinking” of any issue. Of course, this leaves them/you only one offense/defense in their/your communication with anyone, which I stated in the previous sentence.

Now, myself, being a real man leading a Freedom First lifestyle, look at all Lefty Loony tunes as spoiled and entitled children in adult bodies, living with a socialist utopia mindset.

I live beyond your level of comprehension. Which makes a mockery of you, that you cannot even comprehend.

Now, I can’t speak for Smoking Man, but in his own words, “You can’t bend what you can’t offend”.

Well never in my life have I ever seen a more divisive, polorizing hateful election campaign to come out of the states. Glad I lived to see it in my time cuz it was newsworthy…and funny. SNL will have a field day for the next 4 years I am sure.

Regardless, I will be paying attention to the Great Oracle Orator Garth and his henchmen for intelligent advice on a roadmap to the future as we navigate the pitfalls of market conditions, and the cause and effect of financial decisions by governments and corporations alike. Pay attention blog dogs but remain vigilant with your money cuz as we know even Garth can be wrong (thats if he is taking his advice from Bandit)

Nevertheless in a few hours the fun will begin. I can’t wait. Bought my case of spirits and ready to go. This Moose is gonna reeelax and plot strategy or not. Cheers!

#219 Grey Dog on 11.08.16 at 3:47 pm

The unofficial real estate view from Unionville, prices are unbelievably high, however, absolutely nothing is being sold at these insane prices. Based on the territory the Grey Dog and I walk, there is not a SOLD sign anywhere. Only people showing up at open houses are lookylou neighbours.

#220 isuckless on 11.08.16 at 4:44 pm

I believe the change is coming and it should be good for investors/banks/capital (hopefully for some of the people on this blog).
The establishment will learn and change the rules of the game. Please remember that all social changes were happening because of the population growth and inability of the ruling class to continue with the same old way of ruling (that is why “democracy” is invented in the western society to appease growing population and fool them that thay “matter”).
If Trump loses, we’ll see something like “hunger games” (but to so mindless of course) to cosume minds of deplorables while money goes to the right places.

#221 Context on 11.08.16 at 4:47 pm

#217 Grey Dog:- Nothing is being sold as homes are not being priced to a perceived market. They must drop prices to find the market.

GTA house price increases have a significant amount of steam and will move much higher in the coming…

——-

To those wanting to believe a stupid entry price into a 20 year old bubbly market is worth it because up up up, think just a minute if you get caught in the market but it’s same, same, same – or down, down, down.

Then rates rise.

Then you get laid off.

Then you join Canada’s fastest growing labour market – the part timers. For a long time, not a good time.

Think about your options, my small town Ontario household income when I bought was about 80-90k/yr total. I paid 125k for my small town Ontario house. My initial mortgage payment was ~$1200.00/month (at 6.4%), that included cmhc and property taxes. The same mortgage today would be like $600.00 measly dollars a month, cheaper than rent. We paid it off with no special effort in 14 years while amassing hundreds of thousands of dollars in investments with the disposable income the small mortgage afforded us. Now we make 115-130k/yr, sans mortgage, and are packing it away like crazy with just over 20 years left to work.

I’ll retire in great shape, but if I had took 25 years to pay off my 1.5 million GTA crap pile, I’d be praying to the Almighty my entire adult life that the RE market was bubbling over when I hit 65 so I could retire.

Buying in the GTA right now is a one way ticket to financial destruction. Mortgages are long, life is short – if you arrive at 40 with no savings and are still paying a fat mortgage payment, you are screwed for life and better start voting NDP.

#223 Tudval on 11.08.16 at 7:11 pm

#220 IHCTD9 You can buy a 2 bdrm condo in Central Toronto for 250k.. if you don’t know where, do your homework. What, you want to jump right into a detached in established neighborhood? Where did you hear that was ever realistic for a first time buyer? And if you’re hoping the government will make it cheaper for you.. good luck with that. Are you going to buy when prices fall 10% or 20 or maybe wait till they correct 30% and risk to wait forever and be perpetually frustrated? And what make you think they cannot go even lower after you buy and wipe out your equity?

Sooo, to make a long story short: quit bitching, buy what you can afford, live your life and if you are presented with a better opportunity in the future, grab it when you can afford and stop paying attention to future tellers and trying to time housing markets. And if wife not happy, get another one.
