To those
addicted to
this pathetic blog,
to the musty, blinky basement-dwelling
Millennial failures,
to the dismayed wrinklies who feed them,
to the omnivorous lenders
and the rapacious© realtors©,
to the doomers, the bullion-lickers
and metalheads everywhere,
to the iconoclastic, tax-hating, contrarian misfits,
to the renters and others who
toss their money gladly,
to the mothers, who only want the best for you,
so long as it involves a condo,
to the house-humpers and the horny, the hormonal, and
the moist virgins,
to F, to Brad Lamb, Bob Rennie, Cam Good, various sleazy
brokers and agents
that I righteously dissed,
to the lascivious lenders, greedy FSBOs,
and the carnivorous cartels,
to all the DELETED,
to the doubters, haters, critics and nutbars
whose email addresses I have
and am sending to North Korea,
to balanced and diversified investors,
who traded courage for fear,
for strangers who thanked,
to those of you
I have come to know,
and those I never will,
to all dogs
Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to You and Yours Garth, as well as to all who visit this informative blog.

Though I do not agree with Garth on all things he posts, I will say this, over the last number of years he and his blog (along with other posters here) here has taught me a lot about money, credit, debt, investing and the positives and perils of such if not heeded to. For that I’m very thankful to have learned much and to keep learning much. Also if my thoughts posted over the years here help others than that is only gravy for me.

To: Garth & Blog Dogs each and everyone…

Merriest Christmas Wishes To All of you!

Yes it may be a motley crew that gathers brightly, to read the prose of others nightly. Each has their own view and state it rightly.

No one is wrong, and most are civil. We each gather knowledge, along with the drivel.

We plan as we must, and hope for the best. Some no longer post, maybe gone on to their rest.

We miss the names no longer in print, but hope someday they’ll give us a hint.

For the rest, we wonder what the new year shall bring,
with oil, and forex, and markets, a real estate things.

Well settle for now with Blessings for all,
and hope to heed tomorrow’s new call.

#31 LowFatOil - my Xmas present 2 U on 12.24.14 at 6:41 pm

My Merry Christmas tip!

For people wanting to save some money, here are some tips:

Dennys Restaurants give a “Seniors Discount” for people 55 and over. (confirm this with the Server before you order. )

Also, Shoppers Drug Marts give the “Seniors Discount” for 55 and overs for “Optimium Card” holders, once a month on Seniors Day. (tell them at the cash register).

Life is bliss. Such a blessing.
Happy Holidays everyone. :)

#47 bigtown on 12.24.14 at 7:34 pm

Growing up in Northern New Brunswick near the Quebec border on the Chaleur Bay we had a small town consisting of a nice mix of Acadian French and Micmac and old Scotish Protestants.

In the mid 1960’s New Brunswick was poor and the school I attended from Grade one to six had French and English Protestant and English Catholic in the same small school. Girls were lined up two by two with boys behind filing in no nonsense fashion. There was no extra cash for separate schools so we were all one just like the good Lord said we should and I remember Christmas 1964.

We all gathered in front of the principal’s office to sing Christmas carols in front of our parents in French and English. We were peaceful happy and full of good cheer for all….funny how now all that good cheer would be considered POLITICALLY INCORRECT.

Anyway we learned to read and write and be polite and we learned what was right and what was wrong and we learned we could get along and sharing the Christmas message brought joy to all of us. In New Brunswick most of our dads just made it to the level of minimum working income but MAXIMUM level of decency and community wellness on a shoestring.

Santa’s going to have one hell of a time landing on my nabours roof tonight.

That wind, the fog, Man I tell you.

I should have been born Jewish, or Muslim. But god new I love Bacon.

He could not do that to me, he kind of likes me in a weird way.

So I’m trapped in a tribe of people that bull shit their kids from the get go, it’s beautiful to watch the happy faces in the morning. But it’s all based of bull shit.

So I’m not surprised when they buy condos, and jump for Joy when they are accepted to a crazy expensive, redundant university.

Yes God I’ve made it, I couldn’t of done it with out you..

Thank you Santa, thank you God..

Note to self.. Stop drinking..

This blog wicks moisture away from other, less industrious blogs.

Best wishes of the Season to you and your family, Garth!

Your “pathetic blog” exerts a strong, positive influence that extends far beyond the borders of Canada.

You’re a credit to your profession and your country, and have truly become a “Citizen of the World”!

Ho Ho Ho, it’s Christmas Quiz Time!

Which leader just said the following as he cancelled Christmas and New Year’s time off?

“For the government, for your agencies, we cannot afford this long holiday, at least this year – you know what I mean,”

a) Jim Prentice

b)Vladimir Putin

(Hint: he also plans to cap vodka prices)

#136 Steve French on 12.25.14 at 1:48 pm

I loath the phrase “citizen of the world”.

What bullc**p.

Try send your 5 year old son to a public school in somewhere like Angola or East Timor, or your daughter to a public hospital in Liberia or Honduras, and then tell me you are a “citizen of the world.”

Ho Ho Ho, Christmas Quiz Part II

Which leader is really in the biggest pile of reindeer doo-doo this Christmas?

a) Jim Prentice

b) Vladimir Putin

Glad I discovered this pathetic blog 3 months ago. Always a fantastic read for a virgin like myself, although I always stay away from the comments section. You’ve convinced me to stay a renter despite the negative stigma from my horny friends and coworkers.
Thanks for updating frequently, and for keeping this blog ad-free, you curmudgeonly old iconoclast. Merry Christmas Garth.

Garth, thank you for your dark merriment and your wisdom, optimism and love of this strange land that it’s our good fortune to inhabit.

Thank you for your warnings, your advice and your predictions, which are making me richer than I, a mere writer, ever dreamed of being. I hope you’ll excuse me for thinking of you as our herald angel.

Clearly, the time of year is getting to me. So why stop now? God bless us, every one.

With interest rates about to rise soon, is now the best time to SELL STOCKS and BUY A HOUSE in Toronto?

With the threat of imminent interest rates rising, stocks should soon begin to tank.

Meanwhile, with the prospect of mortgage rates beginning to rise dramatically, people in Canada will soon be rushing to cash in on record low mortgage rates before rates begin to rise and homes get priced out of reach, and this alone should boost home prices in Toronto by about 25% of the next 12 months.

Now if you put 10% down on a $1 Million dollar house in T.O., and the house rises by 25%, you can sell it for $1.25 Million. a $250,000 profit on a $100,000 investment. That’s a 1 year return of 250% !
That’s a lot better than a lousy 7% return on a balanced stock/bond portfolio, don’t you think?

Lay off the eggnog, dude. — Garth

Merry Christmas Garth,

I look forward to reading you everyday. Since reading you, I realized we could sell our condo and rent AND shave 30-60 minutes per day off my commute. Your blog helped me realize this was a good move faster.

Wishing you good health, and lots of newspaper headlines to drive you to write articles that froth at the mouth!

Merry Christmas, Garth! May 2015 bring all your hopes and dreams alive. You’re a beacon of light in a world of greed and financial illiteracy.

Thank you. For everything.
