Welcome to Garth Turner’s political archives.
From 2005 to 2009, Garth Turner wrote a daily blog on Canadian political affairs while serving as Member of Parliament for Halton. The times, in a word, were tumultuous. Largely because of this blog – Turner’s contribution to what he called “digital democracy” – Prime Minister Harper expelled Turner from the Conservative caucus, forcing him to sit as an independent MP. Eventually, Turner accepted an invitation to join the Liberal caucus, and went on to become a Special Advisor to the Leader of the Opposition.
Some of what is contained in these archives was subsequently published in Turner’s 2010 book, Sheeple: Caucus Confidential in Stephen Harper’s Ottawa (Key Porter Books).
This archives therefore contains the thoughts and bloggings of a Canadian who was elected to Parliament, twice, who decided he would represent constituents first and political masters second, and paid the price for such heresy.
They are maintained as a record. As such, they speak for themselves.
